Drake has got to be #1 this week. I honestly cannot believe Panda is #1. I listened to it one time and thought it was a fucking joke. This is the first time in a long time I've been mad at a #1

This is the first time in a long time I've been mad at a #1 I honestly don't mind "Panda", but I don't like it being a #1. Drake needs this #1!!! Especially with this great song! (Even though I prefer Hotline Bling)

If nothing else "One Dance" will go to #1 when the video drops, but I think it will get there before that happens.

Yes, Drake has earned a #1. So he better get it lol. But if not, I think the song with Rihanna will hit 1 in a few months

It looks like all of Prince's songs could fall off this week after seeing Kworb's sales estimates. Or am I missing something? To fall off from #4 - is that a record if it happens?

^ Yeah the current record is #9, We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow.
also, Purple Rain could break another record if it stays on the chart below #83. The biggest downward movement in a week is 79 positions.

I mean it hasn't spent 20 weeks yet, so it should be fine But When Doves Cry should fall off the top 50 (since this was its 23rd week), therefore setting the record to 8-X

20/50 makes sense and seems fair. I just think its maybe a little weird that a song has to re-enter in the top 50 but can stay on below the top 50.

Funny how radio has totally abandoned Beyoncé. It's not like her songs are not good or anything. They didn't even embrace her collaboration with Coldplay

But she's a pop star, period. She should be played on pop station. Rihanna is. Drake is. The Weeknd is.

(I'm guessing TIWYCF) Probably Too Good, which is a new song from Drake's album featuring Rihanna (totally sounds like a hit). Speaking of Rihanna, unless there's some promo soon, Kiss It Better will die. It was easily overshadowed by Needed Me, but now it also has to share the Pop spotlight with the Calvin collaboration.

They didn't even embrace her collaboration with Coldplay Are you sure this isn't from a lot of Beyonce's last few singles being more Urban-friendly than Pop? They did well over there. I'm guessing some of the other songs from the album would have a better chance of catching on at Pop than the very trappy Formation. Hell, not even all of Drake's songs catch on at Pop radio, so I don't think the songs that catch on are necessarily tied to the artists. As for the Coldplay collaboration not doing so well, hasn't Coldplay kind of been going downhill on radio in general with this album? Adventure of a Lifetime didn't really get that high either.

Coldplay music is too intelligent for radio. They'd need to dumb it down to get radio support

Or does that only apply to newer songs? It came in as a re-entry in the top 50, it will leave that way too. --Below 50 and it is out. The 20 week thing comes into play here because we are longer than 20 weeks from its initial release date.

Funny how radio has totally abandoned Beyoncé. It's not like her songs are not good or anything. They didn't even embrace her collaboration with Coldplay IMHO - there's been quite a bit of relatively fan-only music from her. I say this as a casual fan. Her more recent music has been heavily urban and far less pop-oriented. This isn't to say there aren't potential pop songs... but nothing that screams radio to me. Certainly not pop radio right now, anyway. Maybe it'll change. Mainstream radio latches onto "instant" songs with ear worm hooks, not those that take several listens to get into. I've listened to Lemonade several times and while there are some catchy songs and some hooks - but they aren't as relatable lyrically to mainstream radio audiences maybe... so I think that's the next layer of radio's issue with her. I don't know - many have said she doesn't need a pop radio hit - and it's very evident that she definitely doesn't. I respect what she's doing and marvel at how popular and successful she is without huge multi-format radio hits like she used to have. It's insane. Props to her.

One thought regarding Lemonade vs the last album -- I think her team realized how hard it was to promote singles from that past album because there wasn't a clear "event" to signal promotion of a new single, since they all had videos already. Drunk In Love was already getting attention but the Grammy performance clinched it -- other than that there really weren't clear promotional events for songs. I remain shocked that XO didn't become a bigger pop hit, and I think it was the lack of a traditional release strategy that hurt it.
With Lemonade, although there is a visual already for many songs, they weren't released as individual videos, so it may be a little easier to signal "here's a new single!" by cutting a video.
I think Formation was hurt severely by being a Tidal exclusive. It's not just radio that helps a song get traction, it's people streaming it and sharing it and watching the video on YouTube -- all of those things were hampered.
All that said, Beyonce definitely doesn't seem too concerned with having hit singles. The days of "Check On It" appear to be over.

The other issue with Beyonce and pop radio (that it seems a lot of people hate to mention) is that she's getting old. I don't mean her actual age...she's 34...but she's been a superstar on pop radio for nearly 20 years now. Even as a solo artist she's 13 years in. Few people dominate as radio stars for that long. Madonna had a solid run from 1983/4 to 2000 with "Music" but after that even her catchiest singles had a hard time getting real radio traction.
It's okay though. Her sales are strong and she's long past ever having to worry about being a "has-been". Once you hit icon/legend status you don't need radio anymore.

The funny thing is that while she had bigger hits back then, she's a much bigger name now that she's doing album releases with non-traditional rollout. Both Beyoncé and Adele are clear examples that hit singles don't tell the whole story.

At this point, I feel that Beyonce is becoming more of an album artist than a singles artist. I mean, sure she has hit singles, but not as many as before, and they don't end up going to #1 or anything. However, her album sales are still huge for 2016, so I'm not sure she needs them. When she's been doing over 600k sales the first week, and not that bad of a decline the second week, I doubt she's worried about having hits.

Honestly this never occurred to me but I cannot believe that Beyonce has been around for almost 20 years now. Also cannot believe that Madonna has really stopped being a force on radio in 2000--aside from a blip here with 4 Minutes and Hung Up, both very respectable hits, you're right, she has not been a staple. Wow at how time flies.
