I remain puzzled as to why people get excited about large debuts that are due to radio deals. Of course those songs have a huge total the first day.

For example, last week, TIWYCF had an hourly deal on Pop and received 1400 spins while JT's single received double that. Have no idea how that worked. Maybe they just play the song more than just an hourly basis which was paid for?

He's also leading in iTunes by a wide margin. I'm guessing top 5 debut for next week.

I remain puzzled as to why people get excited about large debuts that are due to radio deals. Of course those songs have a huge total the first day. The thing with the opening deals is that the initial boost never seems to vanish. "Organic" airplay quickly catches up to the "artificial" first day. By that I mean, you almost never have a song that receives an hourly deal, debuts at #30 on Mediabase after its first two days, and then completely falls off the chart the following week. Songs like Dangerous Woman, Work From Home, NO, TIWYCF, etc all ended up higher on the week two chart. They were never asked to go back and start from zero the way, say, Selena's "Kill Em With Kindness" started. And so if Justin Timberlake's song enters the Top 25 on this week's pop chart - as it almost certainly will - we should be looking at it to be in the Top 25 or higher next week, even without an artificial opening day boost. It's thus okay to celebrate the opening day airplay, because it is the true starting point. It's not like the "On The Verge" wash-out stories where it becomes clear some stations have no interest in playing the song beyond the "deal." Here, the stations seemingly DO want to continue playing the song.

Can't Stop The Feeling debut on airplay... 33.083!! Speaking of that, where is today's update? Justin's song's radio update is in its CHR/POP thread. The rest is ... well.... on Kworb .net where it always is, anytime, any day. :)

If they'd done the same deal for Living for Love, a much better song, perhaps it would've done better.)

It started its audience decline at pop within 3 weeks of its radio deal. A radio deal doesn't mean anything - the song has to stand on its own after the initial spins.

Annnnnnd.... radio deals don't count as much on the Hot 100 these days because they are in a different tracking period than sales and streaming.... Which I think is great because it lessens the advantage.

Hopefully Justin doesn't debut early due to airplay yet again. He could miss the Hot 100 depending on how well these Beyoncé songs hold and how Drake's debut. A top 3 debut seems on lock since he's probably set for the biggest first-week sales of 2016 + doing great on radio and streaming.

Who's Kent Jones? Is it pop or is it rap or country? I could look it up but asking is more fun. I'm ruining the thread!
