Hi all....I have a vast treasure trove of KTU airchecks on cassette tape. I have all the countdowns recorded from 96-05 (when they basically stopped adding new dance music and put disco and freestyle songs in the end of year countdown). This is the 97 countdown. Been enjoying the Johnny Budz mix on KTU and glad that people get to hear it on mixcloud as a trip down memory lane. This was from 2004 and those trance mixes almost towards the end is heavenly. Ferry Corsten, Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond mix of "As the rush comes" and more.

It is a pretty good chart. The two songs notably missing that received high airplay in 1998 were LeAnn Rimes' How Do I Live and Kim Sanders' Jealousy. Both received a great amount of play and I was shocked to see them missing.

Hi everyone.

Is there any chance that anybody has any of the mastermixes including Sugar Ray's "Fly" that WKTU played back in 97/98 It has Kool & the Gang / Mase's Feels So Good intro with C&C music factory's "Everybody Dance Now" thrown in there.

Wondering who was responsible for it and if everyone has that including the Brooklyn Bounce / Get Ready To Bounce with South Park?

Excellent thread.  Thank you, djjamesanthony, anthonyc, Moonshadow, and the rest of the contributors of this thread.  The very early year-end charts of WKTU remind me alot of the station I grew up listening to back then, WBBM-FM "B96" in Chicago as B96 played many of the same songs WKTU played when they launched in 1996, especially much of the dance stuff.  Had I grew up in the NYC area instead of the Chicagoland area but with the same musical tastes that I had a a kid, I probably would had be a big fan of WKTU.  There weren't too many dance-friendly Top 40/Rhythmic stations back then (circa mid/late 1990s) as the only ones I could think of are WKTU, B96 and Power 96 in Miami (WPOW).  Most of the others were hip hop/R&B/urban heavy rhythmic stations. 

I wished that other station year-end playlists out there from the 80s/90s/00s.  There are year-end playlists out there for NYC's Z100 from its beginnings in 1983 up to around 2014. Too bad most established heritage stations often don't acknowledge their past.  

I had created a Discogs list a while back listing nearly every song that was featured on this thread (excluding the recurrents/old school that showed up on the 2003-2005 song lists).

BTW, there was a now-defunct dance station Energy 92.7 in San Francisco in the 2000s (there were similar ones in Phoenix and Chicago as well) that feature a song list the station played, including 70s/80s/90s old school classics

Page 37 of the 2/16/1996 issue of Radio & Records features an article about WKTU's launch.  Also features a song list featured in the last comment but with additional songs.

However, R&R didn't add WKTU song playlists until its 3/08/1996 issue when it was featured in the Rhythmic/CHR section (page 32).  Most of those stations leaned heavily towards hip hop/R&B when compared to WKTU's playlist.  The rhythmic stations that sounded most similar to WKTU that at that point included WBBM-FM (B96) in Chicago, KTMF 103 in San Antonio, KUBE 93 in Seattle, and WPOW (Power 96) in Miami.  A few stations like XHTZ "Z90" in San Diego seemed to fall in between the hip hop side of rhythmic and the dance side of rhythmic.
