Thank you so much for this chart! The top 103 of 2000 is amazing...interesting though that songs like NSYNC's It's Gonna Be Me or Savage Garden's "I Knew I Loved You" never made it.

Sorry for coming in this late, but since you guys know a lot about the songs played on KTU years ago, I have a request.

In 2002, 03, or 04 I remember this one song they barely played during the day. The only thing I can remember is the hook where a female is singing "la dee da dum da da da da dum". It wasn't La Bouche or Crystal Waters because it came out in the 2000's.

The next song that they played was during their Saturday night mixshows and a lot of people in the club scene were very familiar with it (my uncle and 3rd grade dance teacher). I called it jungle music cause it had a jungle-like beat and the only vocals I remember were a man shouting "Hey oooooooohhhhhhh" followed by a "oooohh!". If anyone can help me identify these songs, I will be eternally grateful. Thank you.

Up to 2003, they were mostly always ahead of the trend when it came to dance music. Now they don't even play it safe, they just go extremely slow when it comes to dance songs.

Also Clears Channel is mainly the reason this happened. 2004 IMO was good on KTU but after that, things went downhill. When WNEW came out with the Rhythmic AC format, both were pretty much almost clones and were competing with one another and newer dance were fewer and fewer on KTU. If it weren't for the Telecommunication Act and if Evergreen Media still owned KTU today, things probably would be different today.

I even tried requesting an old Dance song today, and they didn't even bother to listen. Just the same songs that were played less than an hour ago. I wonder if tons of people requested older stuff, maybe then they'd acknowledge the desires of others, but part of me knows they won't do it regardless.

Was curious what old dance song you were trying to request? Is it on mediabase online request?

They'll only play the dance/rhythmic golds like a classic La Bouche, Real McCoy, Captain Hollywood Project, etc. If for example you were trying to request an ATB - 9PM, Fragma - Toca's Miracle, Ian van Dahl - Castles In The Sky, forget it, they won't play it despite most of those being big hits for KTU back then.

Even back then like in the early 2000's, there were a few songs that I was surprised they missed out on. I don't remember them playing Chicane - Don't Give Up or Rui Da Silva's - Touch Me on regular rotation. Probably on their mixshows but that's about it.

Yep, one of them happened to be Castles in the sky. Figures they'd never play it despite being a classic. I'll never understand why they choose to ignore a great opportunity to increase exposure of more Dance songs instead of the latest pop "hits", especially since club music is now being exploited by these artists.

I wonder if there are other stations out there who play Dance music, but with today's standards, I highly doubt it.

A few pages back, the subject of one of these rare KTU exclusive remixes came up. I was informed by a friend that the dance mix of Brandy's "Have You Ever" by George Calle and Mauro De Santis was now streaming online.

My mom had KTU on a few minutes ago while changing stations, and during the commercial break, the station was advertising some show in the City tonight. Songs like September's Cry for you, Lasgo's Something, Lucas Prata's And she said, and Angelo Venuto's Sweet Caroline were played. I have no idea what this is or what it means, but my mother and I looked at each other like, "What?". Just surprised that they'd even have that.

BTW, it's apparently hosted by Hollywood Hamilton. Just thought it was interesting to share.

Thanks for sharing. :) Yep, they advertise some concerts here and then and have some EDM artists or DJ's producers performing but it doesn't mean KTU will play it on the radio. Out of all the songs you mentioned, they play at times September's "Cry For You" and Lasgo's "Something" since both of those crossed over to the top 40 in U.S. radio.

A few years ago, they had an annual event called Beatstock and had AnnaGrace (formerly Ian van Dahl) performing but they never played her song on regular rotation. Their current concert event I think is called KTUphoria which is similar to Beatstock.

Who knows, maybe Clear Channel will come to it's senses and bring back the KTU of 1996-2006 due to the current popularity of EDM but I doubt it. Ironically Clear Channel is experimenting EDM in other markets like Boston and I think Miami with Evolution FM but not in New York. ???

When Energy 92.7 in San Francisco was on the air, they use to have similar types of concerts featuring Dance/Electronic artists. For the most part, the artists who were performing at the shows had some of their songs in regular rotation on the station, but they did occasionally add a song by an artist who would be performing at the show about a month or so before the show and then the day after the show happens, the song vanished from rotation.

In 2007, Darren Hayes was supposed to perform as part of one of these shows and the station added his single at the time "Step Into The Light", and they played it regularly. Then Darren decided to cancel and not to do the show, so the station boycotted all of his music. I forget the details of his cancellation, but it was because of a really silly reason which was a polite way of saying that he expected a larger audience and a bigger paycheck.

When Energy 92.7 in San Francisco was on the air, they use to have similar types of concerts featuring Dance/Electronic artists. For the most part, the artists who were performing at the shows had some of their songs in regular rotation on the station, but they did occasionally add a song by an artist who would be performing at the show about a month or so before the show and then the day after the show happens, the song vanished from rotation.

In 2007, Darren Hayes was supposed to perform as part of one of these shows and the station added his single at the time "Step Into The Light", and they played it regularly. Then Darren decided to cancel and not to do the show, so the station boycotted all of his music. I forget the details of his cancellation, but it was because of a really silly reason which was a polite way of saying that he expected a larger audience and a bigger paycheck.

I remember when Pulse 87 in New York went to the Electric Zoo in 2009, one of the on air personality (forgot who) talked to Armin van Buuren and played "Going Wrong" right after. And then talked to Ferry Corsten and did the same which was cool since both were going to perform the Electric Zoo later that day. Now that I remember, Pulse 87 went off the air a month later.

Wow. Just now KTU played Alice Deejay's Better off alone, only for one of the guys to interrupt at the middle with useless blabbering. Not long after, they cut the song before it could even finish and played that crappy cover of This is Hallowen by Panic! at The Disco. Ugh.

In other news, Angelo Venuto will be performing at my college on November 4th thanks to the Italian language club. I might go and see him.

By the way, does anyone have the playlist from 2006? (I know it was their worst year, but I'm curious to know what was played before they finally changed).

When it debuted in 1996, it went number one in the Arbitron ratings. It was a really popular dance station from 1996 till the mid 2000's. Then Clears Channel (now iHeartMedia) decided to do things their way and no longer was the cool dance station it once was. I used to live in New York and while they did have the Rhythmic AC aspect of it, they were also current with dance music although at times, they were late. Things started to go downhill in 2003 but 2005 was when it wasn't the same again due to low ratings and them competing with another Rhythmic AC station. There were other reasons mentioned here in this thread in previous pages like the whole no repeat workday and stuff like that.

Currently, they are just Rhythmic Contemporary that's dance friendly and will only add dance songs that will crossover to the top 40 (ex: Alesso, Avicii, Calvin Harris, Kiesza, Robin Schulz remix of Mr. Probz, etc.)

Hi everyone. I know I havent posted here in a while. After discovering many 103.5 WKTU playlists from 1997. I have taken it upon myself to create a "guestimate" top 103 chart based on their playlist spins that year. I don't know exactly when I should have started this. My earliest playlist is dated 1/10/97 and the last one I used was 12/5/97. No weeks missing in between!
However, I did not use December of 1996. Instead, I used just the first week of December 1997. I added up spin totals from week to week and this is what I came up with.

The Rest (Below 103) had what I thought was one big surprise. Mariah Carey's Honey. Only 33 spins for the year based on the playlist. Interesting?!! I wonder how different the actual aired top 103 countdown for this year was. Enjoy!

Hi all, here is a retweak of my original 1997 guestimate of WKTU 103.5's airplay for 1997 to include the starting playlist ending date for the week of 11/29/96 to week ending 11/21/97. I used R&R published playlists for the station to calculate running totals. Give or take one or two spins this is what I found.  I think this is a better representation of the R&R published year.    Does anyone have the actual top 103 of 1997?
