Time to accept the fact that Closer is getting 10 or more weeks at #1 Unless Adele or Taylor Swift are dropping their new album this week. Just 10? I expected 12 at least if Bruno couldn't instantly stop it. Yeah, we're completely fucked, especially if Bruno flops, which is always a possibility, seeing as it's such a disappointment.

Does anyone think that the next number 1 may pull a longevity card and become number 1 soley on the fact that it's been able to outlast the chart cycle? Kinda like how Cheap Thrills surpassed One Dance? Unlikely, I can't see heathens doing it, and, other than Starboy and 24k Magic, this is the only song with the slightest chance

Seems to be some panel changes, looks like some Rhythmic stations went Pop Source? Asking b/c you're offering something specific with your answer. If you look at the radio section on Kworb and click on "All Stations" and then click Rhythmic all the top songs there lost a lot of airplay

And King "Closer" is back at number one on iTunes. I'd hate it if Maroon 5 stayed at #1. Better Closer than Don't Wanna Know.

Kinda like how Cheap Thrills surpassed One Dance? That's almost exactly what's gonna happen. Starboy isn't gaining fast enough, 24k is probably debuting athe it's peak and Maroon 5 is probably going to have weak streaming so..

Can anyone please explain what is so great about the song Closer? I hear it all the time and it still hasn't made an impact on me. All these artists have released new songs and get to #1 for like a day on iTunes. Then Closer takes over again. Maybe these new songs aren't great, but neither is Closer.

Imo Closer is ridiculously catchy, with great production. Lyrics are horribly bad and cheesy but most people don't care about that.

Source? Asking b/c you're offering something specific with your answer. Regarding panel changes, AllAccess ran an article about it this week. It looks to have been pulled, though: www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/158358/mediabase-panel-changesA cached version of the article lists one change to the pop panel: the addition of Dallas' 103.7 KVIL (formerly Hot AC). This change has been reflected elsewhere on the AllAccess site, so it does seem to be legit. If this was it, then perhaps it really was an audience re-calibration causing the huge gains on overall AI. Stations shifting panels shouldn't create 'new' AI, it's just some of the AI changing which format it counts towards as the stations move around. Audience re-calibration on top of panel changes better explains what we've seen.

Does anyone think that the next number 1 may pull a longevity card and become number 1 soley on the fact that it's been able to outlast the chart cycle? Kinda like how Cheap Thrills surpassed One Dance? probably not because Closer is proving to have much better streaming/sales longevity and still hasn't peaked at airplay. It's a shame because I wish Starboy could get #1 since I love that song and don't want Daft Punk to get stuck with another #2 peak. I love Closer too but it's not the song I want to see getting a quarter of a year at #1...

I could have seen Heathens outlasting Closer and reaching #1 eventually before 24k Magic and Starboy debuted. One of those is likely the next #1. yeah I knew there was no way that was going to happen. I can see Heathens pulling a Stressed Out by eventually being passed by the song that blocked it on their way down months later, but that'd be far too late for #1 obviously. I guess a case could be made for Starboy, although I'd say there's a less than 5% chance for Starboy to be #1 (it's still pretty far behind Closer on all three metrics and I just don't see it passing Closer any time soon...but I'm giving some credit to the possibility of a big boost from a performance, hence it's not totally impossible yet for Starboy to take the throne before the end of the year). There's also the slight possibility it pulls an "All of Me" based on longevity, kinda like what jayhawk said in a previous post. I do hope Starboy does manage to sneak in one week at #1 and that we don't have a 3rd song within a few months peaking at #2 for 4 or more weeks...

I think they had said they filmed one a few weeks ago? Maybe it'll be another "One Dance" where the video comes well after the song is no longer relevant..

Is it just me or is Bruno underperforming on Spotify? 24k Magic just dropped to #15. Uptown Funk was pretty big there, so idk what's happening now.

It seems like only award shows like the VMAs can give big boosts to songs. I never understood why TV performances (or just getting the song played in a series) don't count towards the Hot 100. Whenever your song plays on the radio that counts as airplay, but if 10 million people hear it on TV, that doesn't count at all.

24K Magic is doing just fine, people. #3 on iTunes, #17 on Spotify, #15 on YouTube. Y'all are acting like this is doing as poorly as Perfect Illusion, which was out of the top ten on iTunes and out of the top 50 on Spotify at this point.
