#57. Keith Sweat - "Merry Go Round"
One of the reigning New Jack balladeers, Keith Sweat took this track to the Top 10 of the R&B chart in late 1990 (making it his 6th consecutive Top 10 R&B hit; the streak would go 10 singles deep).

#56. Pebbles featuring Salt-n-Pepa - "Backyard"
Produced by Babyface and L.A. Reid, this would become Pebbles' 6th and final Top 10 R&B hit in the spring of 1991. The music video featured her up and coming group, TLC, who would break through the following year.
#4 R&B in 1991
...and my favorite remix of "Backyard":

#55. Keith Sweat - "Don't Stop Your Love"
Fourth and final single from his debut (although you'd think there were more based on the Urban AC play nearly every track on that album still gets) and the fourth to reach the Top 10 of the R&B chart.

#54. The Gap Band - "All Of My Love"
Like many of the "old school" R&B acts of the time, The Gap Band went for a New Jack makeover in the late 80's. Group members Charlie and Ronnie Wilson produced this without relying on any of outside help to adapt to the times. It would go on to give them the 4th (and final) #1 R&B hit of their career (and first in over 7 years).

#52. Patti LaBelle - "Feels Like Another One"
Another old school R&B act that gave her music a New Jack makeover. This was the lead single from Patti's Burnin' album and gave Patti her 10th Top 10 R&B hit as a solo act.

Second single from the album of the same name. This was a joining of New Jack powerhouses, featuring Troop on backing vocals and a rap from Bobby Brown on the radio version.

#50. Johnny Kemp - "Just Got Paid"
Written by Teddy Riley and Aaron Hall of Guy (and also produced by the former), this would become Johnny Kemp's one major hit, topping the R&B chart, making the Top 10 of the Hot 100, and cementing itself as an eternal weekend anthem.

I love I'm Ready.
Roni is cuuute!
What About Your Friends still jams hard.
When I Need Somebody should've been bigger. Ralph looking delicious in that video.
Motownphilly is a classic!
The video for My Lovin' still makes me wanna give a cute shimmy.
Off On Your Own is definitely one of my favorites from the list so far. That video is hilarious.
I don't hear You're Not My Kinda Girl often or at all on radio.
I hear Don't Stop Your Love A LOT.
Pebbles has some really nice bops. All of the TLC drama definitely overshadows her music.
Just Got Paid is one of those songs you hear at every party. It's an 80's must.
Edited to add: So it looks like New Jack Swing was around from 1986 with Janet's Nasty and the last big NJS hit was in 1995 with Montell Jordan's "This Is How We Do It".

While it wasn't officially his first single, this was the lead single from Keith Sweat's debut album. It topped the R&B charts (and became the #1 R&B single of 1988), reached the Top 5 of the pop charts, and is often viewed as the first ever hit in the New Jack genre. Keith wrote and produced it with Teddy Riley.

Lead single from their Heart Break album. Produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. It became their second Hot 100 Top 10 and 11th Top 10 R&B hit. It was also their first hit following Bobby Brown's departure from the group. And who could forget that video? So simple, yet so effective, and so influential.
