Can you think of music industry related things that you discovered and that surprised you? Here you can share both things that surprised you in the past and some useless trivia you've discovered recently.
Here's one from me. Recently I've found out that "Good Vibrations" (Marky Mark song) and "Ride On Time" (by Black Box) sample different parts of the same song ("Love Sensation" by Loleatta Holloway).
Another thing that shocked me in the past is that Kesha is not a stage name, but her actual given name.

Here's one from me. Recently I've found out that "Good Vibrations" (Marky Mark song) and "Ride On Time" (by Black Box) sample different parts of the same song ("Love Sensation" by Loleatta Holloway "Love Sensation" is actually one of the most sampled songs of all time within Dance music. Countless tracks have been made using anywhere from short little bits to larger chunks of the acapella and instrumental. A few other Loleatta songs such as "Dreamin", "Hit N Run", and "Crash Goes Love" have also been sampled a lot in the same manner. When Black Box originally samples "Love Sensation", they didn't get proper sample clearance and were sued. They ended up getting Heather Small (who went on to sing lead vocals for M People) to re record the vocals and they released that version. The thing that was even worse was that they had a model who could barely speak English miming to Loleatta then Heather's vocals in the videos and live performances.

I've got another one: when I first discovered that "Tainted Love" is a cover of a 60s song.

It shocked me when I found out that JLO stole Ashanti's vocals for "Ain't It Funny (Remix)" and still left them on the track.

It shocked me when I found out that JLO stole Ashanti's vocals for "Ain't It Funny (Remix)" and still left them on the track. Ja Rule worked with both of them. Even if Ashanti didn't get paid for "Ain't It Funny (Remix)," I think it's safe to assume that Ja Rule and Ashanti knew Ashanti was on "Ain't It Funny (Remix)." I was surprised to find out how old Sheryl Crow was when she became famous. 3 days ago Sheryl turned 55, Brandy turned 38, and Kelly Rowland turned 36. I expected Sheryl to be older than Brandy and Kelly but not by that much. I few months ago on WBLS 107.5 I heard "All I Have" and discovered that the Jennifer Lopez featuring LL Cool J version was a cover. I like "The Heat Is On" by Glenn Frey, but I didn't know he was from The Eagles until he died.

I was shocked to find out a few years ago that producer Lee Marrow used the same singers Jenny B and Sandra Chambers to be the voices of several of his projects and have different models mime to those vocals in the videos and live performances. Each different model would be considered one act. Corona and Playahitty were the most famous of those ones. At one point, several of his "acts" were all charting at the same time.

I'm sure there's a couple more examples too. A good chunk of JLo's first three albums have her just singing the verses and the demo singers singing the choruses. Even "If You Had My Love" and "Feelin' So Good" sound like someone else on the chorus. If she is singing with them, her vocals are buried deep in the mix. I remember being shocked as a kid when I learned that a lot of TLC songs were just the lead singer (T-Boz and/or Chilli depending on the song) and Debra Killings. There are more members of Xscape singing on "No Scrubs" than members of TLC.

This one is going to be stupid. I always thought that this "ah gi gi wah" part in "Fancy" does not mean anything and it's just a stupid melody, like "ooh na na na" or something like that, I have no idea why haven't I realized earlier that she was spelling I-G-G-Y.

The fact that I only found this recently is surprising PCD's 2006 AMA's performance is just hilarious given how many f**k ups there are Jessica causes her chair to fall The singing already isn't so good from Nicole And then the last minute Melody shows up pretty much breaking free from like a locked dressing room and tries to belt her ass off like Xtina and it just doesn't go well And Nicole's bitch face right when Melody shows up is priceless

I remember being shocked when I discovered that OutKast's "Elevators (Me & U)" was a hit on Hot 100 (reached #12) and "Rosa Parks" (peaked in 50s) and "B.O.B." (didn't chart) weren't.

I remember being shocked when i found out Pink was white when her second album came out. Before that I had assumed she was light skinned black or biracial, and they certainly tried to market her that way at the time.

Well Ashanti is actually in the "Ain't It Funny (Remix)" video... and I was shocked that Irv Gotti decided to give the song to JLo's camp without telling Ashanti who wanted the record for herself (having written it and sung the reference track for it, which would explain the snatched back vocals), which Irv knew damn well.

That in 1984 only 5 albums hit No. 1. Those being:
Thriller (Michael Jackson) Footloose (Soundtrack) Sports (Huey Lewis and the News) Born in the USA (Bruce Springsteen) Purple Rain (Prince)

When I got home from school one innocent Thursday of December 2013 and my roommate asked ME if I had listened to the new Beyonce album. And me being like 'you must be confused and talking about some old album I already know of because b*itch I would be the one to tell you if a Beyonce album was getting released'...

Breakaway, one of my faved album of all times, didn't even spawn a single #1 I remember the Era so vividly given how wildly popular Since U Been Gone, Behind These Hazel Eyes, Breakaway, Because Of You, and Walk Away were, they all felt like top 3 peaking songs to me

Similarly, I thought that Destiny's Child's "Lose My Breath" is called "Baby Boy" because of that frase appearing in the chorus and Beyonce song that came out at the same time.

I thought the same with Sia and Jessie J when I heard Titanium and Price Tag At the moment, people online are shocked that Panic At The Disco's Sins Not Tragedies lyrics are "closing a damn door" and not "closing the damn door", and now I'm stuck between whether I knew it was "a" the whole time or I thought it was "the"

I have two main discoveries that shocked me. The first is when I found out that it's actually Nipsey Hussle that provides vocals in the hook of YG's FDT (Pt. 2). I thought it was YG himself. The second is when I found out that 21 Savage thinks that guns should be banned although he raps about them a lot.
