That’s why I said I know true Taylor fans will spend the money but $5 could be the difference between a casual fan who may like the single(s) actually making a purchase of the album vs. just streaming it. I️ doubt it would have a significant impact but I️t just crossed my mind when I searched to see the price outside of Target.

I've never understood anyone who buys multiple copies of an album release week. Stan or not. I Stan for a few artists but have never bought multiple copies of the same album. I did for DC, Whitney and Janet when different retailers had different bonus tracks. But that was years ago. Some being before napster was a thing. I haven't even thought of it since iTunes. I don't even buy a physical and digital copy. Maybe it's because I support myself now and can't do silly stuff like that. But I think I also realized, if I were to do that I'm just putting more
Money into a millionaire's pockets when I make next to nothing or really nothing compared to them. They ain't paying my bills. Why should I or anyone go above and beyond for them? For chart stats? No thanks. Also, isn't there a thing where it started on billboard or soundscan, you can't purchase multiples of the same album in the same transaction? It won't count? I'm sure it would have to be more than 2, but I felt that became a thing at one Point.

^you have to purchase multiple copies individually for each sale to count. If you have 5 copies on the same receipt, it will only count as one sale.

On the topic of buying multiple copies of the same album, I have not and probably will never do it. When CDs were a thing, I did rebuy a few CDs because they were scratched, but that's about it.

Some Taylor fans are really something, no matter how much I like her music, there is no way I can compare to her some of her fans haha. I know someone who collected all of the polaroid(s) from last album cycle.

Lastly, I honestly thought this would have an 800k opening, I will be surprised if numbers hit that high. Does she have tour deal like Pink had?

Today, I would literally never do it and you are lucky if you get my 9.99 for your album on Itunes. However, I don't hate on the young, teenager love for their pop stars. Many years ago, I was a teenager with no bills and bought the shit out of BSB and Britney and Christina stuff lol. I don't regret it. It was fun even though I basically "accomplished" nothing.

There is a rumored tracklist circulating but Taylor hasn't confirmed anything so far. I'm really curious about the Ed collab since both of them collabed on Red when they weren't doing pop songs, a pop duo right now would be amazing!

This cracks me up. Has this ever made a real difference in an artist getting to #1, getting a better certification, etc? I know stans of all artists do it, but even if 1000 stans bought 5-10 copies, you are looking at 5000-10000 sold. That isn't all that much in the grand scheme.

But if 10000 fans do it, you're looking at 100k max which is a lot. And I believe there are at least 5k Taylor fans obsessed enough to do this.

I don't think it would impact certifications because the CDs were still sold. It's a 'chart' rule, which I get, to avoid multiples bought during chart week only to be returned later. Taylor is obviously the exception with physical sales.

Certifications aren't from the sales from a store. They're from the selling from the label to the distributor. This is how things like Music Clubs and Samsung giveaways count towards certifications because the product was still paid for and moved from the supplier to the distributor. It was the distributor then that decided to sell the product at a loss to them, because the loss could be offset by an alternate revenue stream.
