Tom Breihan is a tremendous writer and The Number Ones column is one the highlights of my week, every week. Naturally, his respect for Janet has been consistent -- which is only fitting, as Janet is one of the most consistent pop artists of all time. I don't think he's ever rated one of her hits below a 6.

I'd give it 10/10 as well cuz it's such a carefree, cute bop and it was her last era when she was still on top. Definitely one of my faves from 2001. Plus, it had introduced me to Change's Glow of Love. 🙌🏽

I totally agree! I would love to have “God’s Stepchild” and “Accept Me” on streaming services! There are also a bunch of remixes from that era that I would love on there as well like the TNT mix of “I Get Lonely” and the Jam & Lewis Disco Mix of “Every Time”.

Twitter has been celebrating the anniversary of Got 'Til It's Gone (1997), and I was blown away by how beautiful the music video is, and how much effort was put into creating such a memorable clip. It made me feel so nostalgic for the time period. Janet really knew how to set the mood for her eras. That's The Way Love Goes is just as good and accomplishes the same feeling. I always feel like the 90's were just a special time period for her.

Ladies, I have reevaluted All For You (album) and feel it is much better than it has been given credit for. I would put it up there with her big 4 (though it is the least of them). All of her albums to that point had a distinct theme, and this one was a bright and sunny post-divorce experience, with all the emotions that come with it. AFY and STCML are two amazing singles and don't sound highly dated like so much else from the TRL era.

I have truly grown to love it over the past few years. No MPG has a better album run than Control - Damita Jo.

For me, the experience is quite different. I love AFY from the very moment I first got it in 2001, I was 13 at that time when I was heavily a pop music lover. It was the second Janet CD I had got after TVR, so it felt really special. 2001 is one of my fave years for music, especially in pop music when you had Janet, Destiny's Child, Missy, P!nk, J.Lo, Shakira, Kylie, Alicia, and more running the charts. It was pop at its finest moment. I really do miss those times.

Going back to the album, I love the majority of the tracks on it, so it's always been within my top five fave albums by her. The slow jams like "China Love" and "When We Ooh" are still a mood.

A new deluxe edition of Janet Jackson’s Grammy-winning, national and international chart-topper The Velvet Rope will be released on Friday (October 7), exactly 25 years since its debut. The new version will feature no fewer than ten bonus tracks that become available on streaming platforms for the first time, including much-sought B-sides and remixes. Among these are the rare “Accept Me” and “God’s Stepchild,” and the collection also hosts numerous remixes that were previously only available on CD singles.

The mixes include Teddy Riley’s TNT Remix of “I Get Lonely” featuring BLACKstreet; the J. Dilla (Ummah Jay Dee) remix of “Got ‘Til It’s Gone”; and Timbaland and Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott’s remix of “Go Deep.” Club mixes of various tracks are also included by David Morales & Frankie Knuckles, Masters at Work, Tony Moran, Jason Nevins, and Tony Humphries.

In tandem with Friday’s reissue, remastered versions of Jackson’s music videos for “Go Deep,” “I Get Lonely,” “You,” “Got ’Til It’s Gone,” and “Together Again [Deeper Remix].” will also become available to watch on YouTube in HD for the first time ever.

The album, produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis for Flyte Tyme Productions Inc. and Ms. Jackson, embraced her fearless songwriting themes of female sexuality, domestic violence, and mental health, through the lens of a black woman. It debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 and won a plethora of multi-platinum, platinum, and gold certifications around the world, also winning a place among Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list.

The Velvet Rope also contained the Billboard Hot 100 No.1 “Together Again,” the Top 3 hit “I Get Lonely,” and other hugely popular tracks such as “Go Deep” and “Got ‘Til It’s Gone,” The latter song, which sampled Joni Mitchell’s 1970 staple “Big Yellow Taxi,” featured both Mitchell and Q-Tip, and won a Grammy for Best Music Video, Short Form.
