This is the week we see, and meet, Janet Damita Jo Jackson. I've met some favorites of my youth and beyond, though this will be right at the top of that list. My partner was a quasi-fan up until recent years, when, thanks to moi, a conversion occurred.

We didn't meet Reba McEntire when we saw her show last year, though we did do the pre-show lounge party or whatever it's called. Have heard the Jan one is pretty good, too.

The 3LP and 2CD editions of the set will include seven bonus tracks.

A deluxe edition of Janet Jackson’s fifth studio album, 1993’s multi-platinum janet., will be released by Virgin/UMe on July 7, to mark its 30th anniversary.

The album included the double platinum single “That’s The Way Love Goes,” the platinum-certified ballad “Again” and other such highlights as “If,” “Because Of Love,” “You Want This,” and “Anytime, Any Place.”

Released on May 18, 1993, by Virgin Records America, the album was an immediate sales sensation, selling 350,000 copies in the US alone in its first week and debuting at No.1 there as well as in the UK and Australia. janet. was the No.4 bestselling album of the entire year in America and now has worldwide sales total 14 million copies, Jackson’s best-ever album performance.

The album was also critically lauded, both at the time and in retrospective overviews, with Pitchfork placing it among its 150 Best Albums of the 1990s and Rolling Stone in its 100 Greatest Albums of the Nineties. Read more about janet. in this dedicated uDiscover Music feature.

The new edition will be available in a special 3LP vinyl configuration with tri gatefold, upgraded jacket, a booklet of rarely seen photos from the period of its release, and a third LP of seven bonus tracks. The 2CD edition comes in standard packaging with seven bonus tracks, and there will be a standard black 2LP version, while the album will also be available on all streaming platforms. The bonus tracks include “And On And On,” “70’s Love Groove,” “One More Chance,” and various alternate mixes from rare seven inch singles of the day.

A new merchandising capsule, produced in partnership with Bravado, is also available at Shop.Janetjackson.com. This eight-piece collection was created for Jackson’s current Together Again tour, her first in five years. The 33-city itinerary is visiting North American arenas and amphitheaters in Atlanta, New York, Toronto, and more.

I get the A&M years getting the shaft because of the Universal fire, all of those masters are probably gone. But there's no reason the Virgin years should be this neglected.

And yet all the Japanese CD-singles from the Rhythm Nation era, with tons of remixes (some unique to those releases) are curated and on streaming. I don't think the Universal fire is the reason.

If nothing else, I'm glad the first three B-sides are making their streaming debut, and that we are getting the Nellee Hooper mix of WAYN - that is the superior version of the song and would have been a perfect final single to cap off the era.

Hopefully she will also release janet. Remixed on streaming at some point.

I asked her where her camo was, as I was wearing a camouflage shirt. When she realized what I meant (that she was wearing camouflage in recent M&G pics), she giggled. I also wished her a Happy Belated Birthday, told her that my partner and I were celebrating our 15-year anniversary, and just thanked her for everything she does/has done.

Is she not much of a hugger during meet and greets? II didn't want to be that person, who asks for a hug and have her say, "Not really doing that right now." The rejection would be too much.

I'm mainly referring to album re-issues. In terms of a super deluxe anniversary edition of Control, I get the stall. The masters were destroyed along with everything in the vault. So a true remaster isn't even possible at this point. And everything released that era can't be taken from more high quality sources (like those Japanese CD singles for instance).

The main issue is the shocking lack of imagination with her back catalog in general. It's what makes these Virgin re-issues more egregious to me, because they have access to all of this stuff. At the very least, her team could work on getting her single packages on streaming like Mariah and Madonna have done over the years.

I see so many C-list and D-list acts getting the royal treatment with their discographies. And a genre defining, era defining artist like Janet gets this, it's low-key infuriating to me.

The worst part is, Universal Music Group holds the rights to both the Virgin and A&M catalogs, so the potential is right there for Janet to ink a deal with Universal similar to the one Madonna inked with Warner.

Very nice! It must have been a real trip to meet such a huge superstar that you’ve been watching and listening to all these years. Hope you enjoyed the set list. I didn’t know anything about the show beforehand so each song was a complete surprise especially the opening number.

I don't blame anyone for wanting to hug Janet. But she's meeting at least 50 fans a night after the show and I probably wouldn't ask for a hug. Just to respect personal space and not have security say anything. A picture and a few words are enough for me.

I think Essence being streamed on Hulu really helped, too. Everyone was raving about that performance, including myself. The mic was on, the body was snatched, the hairography and choreography was on point, and she just gave it everything. Plus, she reiterated that the “If” arm blades are here to stay (for now). All around, I think she trended for two days because of that show. It was a big moment for her, bigger than I think people realize.

Janet is getting her flowers while she’s still here and that’s all I ever wanted for her after more than a decade of being treated like a second class icon in the shadows of a sexual deviant who mercilessly used his power to stop her bag. It didn’t always work, but sometimes it did.

Holding Janet accountable as well, though. There are many things she could have done to fight back and preserve her legacy, but I think those opportunities were missed out of negligence and mismanagement. She could’ve been in better shape sooner.

But I’m just so happy for her. Now is her time. This is as close to a comeback as we’re going to get commercially — in terms of her touring power — and she deserves it all and more. The next step is repairing her touring reputation internationally (outside of Asia and Australia, where she still pulls numbers), which will be a much bigger challenge, but not impossible. Europe needs to be a priority and South America literally is brand new territory for her, so like… yeah, that IS A MUST. Get on the festival circuit, do what you need to do!
