I think it's safe to say that she clearly does NOT follow up with American politics or the news. That's what I'm getting. She's in her own bubble with her kid. So what she says is going to sound Hella ignorant. That's not an excuse. She has the right to keep her mouth closed on subject she is unaware of or read up. In a interview she doesn't have time to read so just a simple not speaking when you don't have education on something is FREE π She sounds ignorant and uneducated ETA what Allow That said makes total sense

Imagine waiting years for music only for her response to be βI went to my brother [Randy] β¦ and I think, I think heβs just waiting for the opportune time.β Gurl do better! This is not a good lookβ¦ And while she continues to be loyal to him, he's not doing anything much for her career wise. She needs to fire him and be her OWN business partner.

Pretty ironic since she wrote βThe Knowledgeβ.
Prejudice (no!) Ignorance (no!) Bigotry (no!) Illiteracy (no!)
She sounded downright ignorant.

I agree with the disappointment over what she said about Harris, but can anyone explain what she meant with the sex trafficking stuff? Honestly, the entire interview was bizzare.

There is very little I can explain about the Jackson family even though I love their music MJ and JJ anyways and the group etc but what it all boils down to is I blame the cycle of abuse and toxicity and it stems from Joe Jackson period. They are emotionally and mentally stunted. I mean if this doesn't scream abuse and damage I don't know what does π

Sounds like Randy is manipulating her and gaining influence on her thoughts and decision making process. She has a history of trusting the wrong people with her career, itβs sad that this is still happening all these decades later.
Also Randy is a major Trump supporter so Iβm not surprised that heβs warped her mind with all this QAnon BS.

She knows better she chose to say this and she is too media trained to slip. She will be fine, she didn't kill nobody but wrong is wrong

People want celebrities to speak out on political topics so badly and this right here is a prime example of why I prefer they donβt π. Much better to just keep quiet about it and stick to entertaining . Majority of them are way out of touch and cannot relate to the average person anymore.

I disagree with you and THE shade room dolly..maybe she can be but to PUT the onus on someone else is shifting responsibility away from a grown ass woman and with zero facts to support it. I can't speak on things I don't know neither can y'all but what I do know is that its JANET words I'm reading..so I hold her accountable like we all should be held accountable for our OWN actions. Its that simple for me anyway

There aren't plenty of "average people" who think Harris isn't Black, Haitian immigrants are eating pets, etc. I certainly agree people shouldn't be looking to celebrities as a guide on who to vote for and such, but celebrities are also eligible voters and have every right to speak out just as the rest of us do. And just like with citizens in general, there are celebrities who make a point to research and get informed, and there are celebrities who just listen to what specific people feed them. This interview with Janet is just particularly disappointing because of her history of seeming to care about social issues and to be outspoken in a positive way. People weren't complaining when Janet spoke out on those topics despite being a celebrity.

I can't believe people here are actually defending this ignorance by yes, a 58-year-old woman. She could be a 28-year-old for all I care. She is a celebrity and should be more careful of what she's saying in a public forum especially when it comes to someone else's race. Inexcusable.
Just like people in the future may question the race of her multi-racial son without doing their research.

Not anything specific to Kamala or Haitians etc. Celebs can speak out if they wish, great if they do. I just donβt need celebrities to be political or criticize the ones who are quiet like a lot of others do. I prefer it because as seen hereβ¦.

I'm fully support sticking to your lane and if you choose to branch out do with the right education not listening to what someone else said

Janet, I love you, but you've spent your entire public career talking, writing and singing about the ills of racism. We all know why Janet was punished for the SB, while JT's career skyrocketed.
I'm sure she'll issue some lame PR apology, but no one forced her to make these statements.
Bottom line: Discussing/speculating about another person's race is flat-out wrong. I'm incredibly disappointed.

Janet needs to fire her brother Randy and publicly apologize to Kamala.
That's it. The end. Will be flying to the UK on Tuesday and hoping she denounces the article.
The media is having a field day with this and the timing couldn't be worse. Tito has passed, she's continuing her most successful tour and THIS is what the media is hyperfocusing on. She took the bait and must course correct.

The irony. Up until she did this interview, she had always strucked me as someone who was capable of thinking for herself and calling all the shots. This interview is making her seemed too reliant and gullible. It's really sad. She had spent the last two decades trying to repair and rebuilt her image from the Superbowl scandal, and this interview is doing her image more harm than good.

This is BY FAR the most disappointing thing to happen in 2024 for me... Like what the hell, the woman who has written Rhythm Nation 1814 AND treated badly by racist industry after the Super Bowl saying this? Who is to blame?!?! Her meds? The Qatari person she was married to once? Her family?

Okay but why is Randy holding her music hostage? Since when did he have control over her career and more importantly, WHY!? π.

Her team had issued an apology. I wish she never did that cringeworthy interview in the first place. Now everyone sees her as a total embarassment.

Way to be genuine and issue such an AI apology that comes from her team not even personal apology. I know most PR apologies come from team but atleast celebrities usually makes it personal this just sounded distant, cold and idgaf. Usually when someone apology is like that they still mean what they said

What the hell is wrong with her? What was the point of even saying that in the interview? She should know better. How utterly embarrassing. *She* needs to apologize, not her team.

Yeah the apology shouldnβt be in third person. She should have personally apologized in a sincere video on her socials, not BuzzFeed of all places.
I canβt believe this came from the same woman that sang Rhythm Nation, State of the World, The Knowledge, New Agenda, and Canβt Be Stopped.

It still looks like she's not fcking with Kamalaπ. She mentioned "Mayhem" referring to the election in her interview... has she ever spoke in detail about politics/voting?

When I read her saying "I think either way it goes is going to be mayhem.β, I take it as her trying to say whether Kamala wins the election or not, it would still causes "mayhem" among people.
