(...)That's just my personal take on it, of course. I look forward to any clarifications from this upcoming documentary + Janet's. All good points. Thank you

So how many times have you seen her live? That I can recall, mine were: - Velvet Rope - San Antonio, TX - Sep 1998 (Usher opened) - All For You - San Antonio, TX - Sep 2001 - Number Ones - Houston, TX - Mar 2011 - Number Ones - Austin, TX - Apr 2011 I believe it's 13 shows now. Rhythm Nation Tour - London and Birmingham, UK Number Ones - New York City and Miami Beach Unbreakable - Miami State Of The World Tour - Lafayette, Toledo, Detroit, Sunrise, Miami and Global Citizen Metamorphosis opening night RN30 San Francisco Also got to attend R&R HOF and was there when she exited her book signing in NYC and stood up in her car to wave. Got to hi five her after her NYC show in 2011 and shake her hand in 2018 at the Miami show. Impressive!! 13!! The only artist for whom I have such a high number may be Madonna.

I'm so happy Dancing With The Stars is doing a Janet Jackson Night! This is huge, and with Janet herself appearing, this is bound to be very positive press for her, and will definitely encourage viewers to revisit or discover her amazing discography. She is such a fantastic performer who's brought iconic choreography moments throughout her career. I expect to see tributes to "The Pleasure Principle", "Miss You Much", "Rhythm Nation" (duh!), "If", and hopefully "I Get Lonely" as well. So many possibilities! π₯° I second (and manifest) think pink. 's sentiment of a Janet resurgence coming soon. All the ingredients are here, and if her team play their cards right (like properly organizing her YouTube page, and picking a killer lead single for "Black Diamond"), it would be so beautiful to witness!

This could be the start of a major resurgence IF Janet and her team capitalizes of the publicity and goodwill.

Ok why did I say that's not Halle Berry even trying to look like Janet. Makes sense it's the other sister. Legitimately read it as the OG Halle

I fell down a rabbit hole of RIAA certs and I found a post from 10(!) years ago at UKMIX estimate that she's under-certified by over 10 million units. No one has paid to update Control since 1989! Janet. has scanned over 7 million per Soundscan and that doesn't include BMG Music Club and Columbia House and it's only certified at 6x Platinum. Rhythm Nation is probably horribly undercertified as well, not to mention Design of a Decade, TVR, and AFY. Ughhhh, I hope she can regain control of her back catalog and recertify and curate proper anniversary editions. EDIT: A table Album | RIAA | Soundscan est. (2009) | Music Club Estimate | New Total | Control | 5 million | 500,000 | 2.5 million | 8 million | Rhythm Nation 1814 | 5 million (pre-Soundscan) | 1.4 million | 2 million | 8 million | janet. | 6 million | 7 million | 2 million | 9 million | Design of a Decade | 2 million | 2.4 million | 2 million | 4 million | The Velvet Rope | 3 million | 3.2 million | 1 million | 4 million | All For You | 2 million | 3.1 million | 900,000 | 4 million | TOTAL | 23 million | 17.6 million | 10.5 million | 37 million |

Multiple albums that were around that same mark at the time are certified 9-10x platinum.

Interesting, I did some more research and Universal owns A&M, Virgin, and Island Def Jam so all of Janet's pre-2010s catalog is under one parent company.
I truly hope she's been in negotiations with them to have a more active role in curating her own legacy of music.

It was fun watching all the tribute performances tonight and seeing Tyra in her Janet costumes. She really nailed her look down to a T! ππΎππΎππΎππΎ

So far my three favorite performances were Jojo Siwa "Feedback", Cody Rigsby "Black Cat" and Amanda Kloots "Miss You Much".
I know Teyana is on tour, but it would have been nice if she were in the audience. I'm glad they showed the clip of Janet on Facetime with her.

I also like Olivia Jade's and Suni's performances during the dance offs.

I'm watching all of the performances via Twitter, and did they not actually use Janet's versions of the songs?
Anyway I was really impressed by the dancing. Wow. I thought it was going to be a lot of celebrities looking kind of silly.
