Part 2 was difficult to watch...her brother's allegations, superbowl, and the demise of her relationships, but I really admire her strength and perseverance to keep pushing on without breaking down emotionally and mentally in public.

I was in awe of the footage of the writing of "Scream" - it's surreal to me that was caught on tape. I wonder if Janet made him hand over all of his footage as part of the divorce.

René gave me creeper vibes though in all the footage. I do think he wanted what was best, but between the painkillers and his obsession with her image and having her on top of the world, it grew to be too much. Unfortunately, he got a bunch of songwriting and production credit on The Velvet Rope, somehow I doubt he did that much writing though. She kicked him to the curb though and that tour and her next two albums were excellent without him.

ALSO, the basic ass beats from JD on 20 Y.O. stick out like sore thumbs when mixed in with the rest of her hits


Finally, I'm glad that she actually said the breast exposure was an accident *explicitly* with that 2022 clip, unlike the DeBarge baby rumors where there was no explicit NO from her on film.

I think Wissam and his lawyers must have offered her primary/full custody in exchange for not disparaging him publicly.

I saw her Unbreakable/State of the World Tour twice, before and after the divorce was finalized, and during "What About" there were dancers doing three scenes behind her which I took to be James, René, and Wissam.
Then in the second version, there were only two for René and James.

It's also probably why the entire period where her career was inactive while they were married was not touched upon here. There must be some visitation though because of her being adamant she wouldn't keep a father away from his child during the James DeBarge child rumors segment.

Which is why I'm happy the FX/Hulu documentary covered that already at least.

Part 2 was incredible Rene being an egotistical pill popper who could never get out of director mode, Jermaine a cheater that couldn't commit, the Coca Cola deal, the Super Bowl and Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame bits were fascinating moments and the little dedications to Michael & Joe were sweet, I guess.

Screw the Grammys for disinviting her.


Hope the Luv I Luv release comes out soon, it sounded cute. Nice that Poetic Justice and Why Did I Get Married movies get mentioned (but not For Colored Girls and Nutty Professor?)

The Miami iPhone video she recorded this year where she defended Justin sounded like damage control, but I will still always loathe him for multiple reasons.

Thoroughly enjoyed the documentary. It was tough to watch at times, but her strength and perseverance are inspiring. The later eras were not likely to get the screen time of the earlier ones, so that wasn't too much of a bother.

That was messed up, how Michael's team/label acted on the set of the "Scream" video. I mean, it was his sister, for cryin' out loud. At least they were able to shoot some scenes together fir the clip. And, interesting hearing some of the lyrics Janet sang in the writing process, that didn't make it in (at least it sounded like never-before-heard lyrics- maybe she just sang them different and I didn't hear right ha).

Seeing the 2017 footage for State of the World Tour brought back nice memories of seeing the show in Bethlehem, Pa. I went so long without seeing her live, but, yes indeed, it was well worth the wait.

He had/has his issues, but Rene was a great artist. RN1814, janet. and TVR were her boldest and most iconic visual eras, he definitely played a part in that. He also got her hooked on wearing Comme Des Garcons in her downtime so he does get points for that.

I do wonder why she didn't address the domestic abuse allegations though, maybe it was just a song. I mean, I could see Janet handling Rene's scrawny behind.
