Finally got around to listening to this, I'm always tardy for the party. This is SO GOOD. "Slow Burn," "Lonely Weekend," "Oh, What A World" (seriously, this is the one for me), "Happy & Sad," "Velvet Elvis," "High Horse," and "Golden Hour" are my immediate favorites. "Rainbow" and "Love Is A Wild Thing" are the only two that aren't essential for me on the first couple of listens, but even they're solid. Everything on here is so lovely, so many subtle touches in the instrumentation and backing vocals that pop on repeated listens. I wish "Mother" was a full track though! Lydia Loveless? Caitlyn Smith? |

Singer Kacey Musgraves collects her third top 10 album, as her seventh studio album Golden Hour bows at No. 4 with 49,000 units (with 39,000 of that sum powered by traditional album sales). Musgraves previously visited the top 10 with Pageant Material (No. 3 in 2015) and Same Trailer Different Park (No. 2, 2013).
Golden Hour is the highest charting country album since Luke Bryanβs What Makes You Country launched at No. 1 on the Dec. 30, 2017-dated list.

I was buying CDs today and one of them was the Elton John covers album and the guy behind the counter (who looked like he'd be a fan of 70s rock) mentioned that there was another Elton John covers album too so I took a look at it and said what the hell, and he looked at the tracklisting and said "I bet the Kacey Musgraves cover would be really good," and went on to talk about how he really liked her style, but wasn't sure what to think about the new album yet. So we both agreed that she's great and I recommended Brandy Clark to him if he likes Kacey.
Musgraves is taking over little by little.

Two observations:
1) I still need a full version of "Mother." She's going in for the kill and about to totally shatter my heart and then it just ends... ugh. I think it would have been a way more dynamic piano ballad than "Rainbow."
2) I just watched her husband's music video for "Black Magic." Uhhhhh... send nudes.

Is she really not performing tonight at the ACM awards? New album out with great critical acclaim. Would they not give her a slot or would she rather not pretend to cater to the country radio crowd who pay her no mind?

Still can't get enough of Golden Hour. I sometimes worry I'm getting too "old" to appreciate new music as I forget most new albums after a listen or two. Not this album. This has been put together with care and thoughtfulness that keeps you coming back and finding new things with each listen. It has a freshness that is so badly needed (especially in a genre as stagnant as country), yet also manages to be timeless in its themes. We're lucky to have this chick and her collaborators.

This album just gets better and better. My favorite lyric of the year is probably "I was hiding in doubt till you brought me out of my chrysalis". Perfectly sums up the feeling of going into a new relationship and I just love the production on it too.

I low key wish High Horse would pull a Pumped Up Kicks-like run this summer. It's got such a good vibe for summer, but while the chorus is catchy, it's not quite the relentless ear worm that PUK is.

I would love for her to perform Space Cowboy and Happy and Sad but those are just my favorites. I can live with High Horse, too. But let's be honest, anything would work because the entire album is gold.
