From the non-singles submissions, we ended up with 67 different songs from Madonna's various projects. I'll be revealing them as we go through. Starting right now.
"Each Time You Break My Heart" Demo (1986)
| Points: 1 |Written by Madonna and her then frequent collaborator Stephen Bray for True Blue, it was recorded but left off the album. It was ultimately recorded by Nick Kamen, who was also on Sire, with Madonna providing the background vocals. Released as a single at the end of the year, it didn't go anywhere stateside, but went on to be a top 10 hit throughout Europe, and reached #5 in the UK. I'm going to tag everyone in the singles and albums rankdowns, but not the non-singles given the number. If you'd like to be tagged for them too though, let me know.

And while we're at it, let's reveal #85 as well. 85. "Hey You" Non-album single (2007)
| Points: 325 | | Average: 73.96 | | Median: 79 | |Std. dev: 12.60 (4th lowest) |Written by Madonna and co-produced with Pharrell Williams, it was written for the Live Earth campaign in 2007. It was a free download for the first week, and didn't chart after it was put on sale after. She sang it at the Live Earth concert that year as well. -This one got bottom rankings throughout. Only one person put it in the top 50, the lowest for any of the entries. (Range: 48)

1. What do you think will be #85? Gosh, I have no idea... maybe "Revolver." That one just plain sucks. IIRC it couldn't even hit #1 on the Dance chart, and she hits #1 there with everything, lmao.It was surprising but the majority of the released/promoted remixes for that were just not that good. The label inexplicably released a version of one of the better mixes with less vocals than another version that existed that had more on the basis that it would go over better. As much as I liked it at the time, I think it was really bad choice of song to put on as a new track on the Celebration hits collection and it's poor chart performance also reflects that. I forgot about that song in my mention of bottom 5 yeah, this one sticks like a sore thumb in a GH collection. Her voice also sounds bad. At least Celebration is a bop

Oh. I mean, it's not even close to one of my favorite singles of hers, so I'm not complaining too much about "Hey You" being last...but there's definitely worse.

I would've done this, except for the CRAP load of the songs of hers.
All I have to say is, TAB better better be in the top 4.

This is the only version of "Revolver" that I use now. The label inexplicably released the dub of this version which omitted the majority of the vocals. I am guessing that they didn't like the vocals/lyrics either. https%3A//soundcloud.com/tracyyoung/revolver-madonna-tracy-young

out of curiosity, would you have accepted non-Madonna songs that featured her on vocals (Sidewalk Talk for example)? If so then I omitted my favorite song w/ Madonna in it...let's just say it involved Don Was

85. "Hey You" Non-album single (2007) Don't know why this came in at #85. It's a non offensive ballad and nothing more.
84. "Revolver (f/Lil Wayne)" - Celebration (2009) Nailed this one. Sounds like some Rihanna crap. 'nuff said.

I thought I read somewhere that's why they only released the dub. I don't see what the objection is tbh, because the vocal treatment did actually work.

I think that might have been why, but the label released soooo many questionable and garbage mixes of other singles that had me wondering what they must have been smoking to release those (what were those "Get Together" and "Miles Away" remix packages?).

Hey You - No matter how many times I hear this, I cannot for the life of me remember what it sounds like. When I see the title, I hear No Doubt's "Hey You!" in my head. Revolver - I actually love this one. Funny enough, I initially only knew the remixes of this song. I got into Madonna right around the time Celebration came out, but at the time I could only find the one-disc edition, which didn't have this on it. I ended up getting the maxi single soon after, which was only remixes. So, to this day, the David Guetta remix feels like the main version to me. That's the best version, but the Tracy Young mixes are hot too.

So far, two P-P-P-PERFECT RANKINGS!! (used this for the first time ever, lol) 85. Have never used either song, but HY is just far too blah for her. Her cover of Imagine could've been even better than this stuff. 84. Hate her voice, and Lil' Wayne, and the song was close to trash for her. I appreciated the effort of doing something different, and the pre-chorus and chorus have some melody I can dig, but the final result was just a misstep. The Guetta remix is ok, as well as the Tracy Young. I do agree with Disco that the remixes and edits in the Confessions-Hard Candy-Celebration eras were most of the cases For someone whose remixes have been fire and brought new life to many of her hits, lots of the remixes were extremely blah!

I do agree with Disco that the remixes and edits in the Confessions-Hard Candy-Celebration eras were most of the cases For someone whose remixes have been fire and brought new life to many of her hits, lots of the remixes were extremely blah! For the Confessions era, the only ones I thought that they got completely right were "Hung Up" and "Sorry". The SDP and Tracy mixes of the former and the Pet Shop Boys mixes of the latter worked. And then for "Jump" we got a nice throwback extended version based on the album version which made sense given the 80s style of that one. If she really wanted to keep the whole throwback aspect of that album going, each of the songs should've had a proper extended version. For Hard Candy, I only liked the NY Rauhofer mix of "4 Minutes" as that was done right. But it was not even what Peter Rauhofer was doing at the the time in terms of sound. It was cut form the cloth of what Offer Nissim was doing and then he got to do some remixes on the MDNA and Rebel Heart albums.

Some questions before we start. 1. What do you think will be #85? 2. What are you prepared to be disappointed by? 3. What will the top 5 be? Bottom 5? 4. What will have the highest standard deviation? The Lowest? 5. How do you expect the top 10 to be distributed among the decades? Late to the party (Kacey shoutout!) I haven't looked yet but will predict before I do. 1. probably one of her 90s ballads like One More Chance or I Want You, or random 80s barely-hits that even I didn't really use. 2. All the Bedtime Stories singles to be out way too early. 3. Top 5 will probably be Like A Prayer, Frozen, Ray Of Light, maybe something like Material Girl or Like a Virgin, and I expect Hung Up to be pretty high. 4. Lowest st-dev will be Like A Prayer. Highest might be something like Argentina or songs like Rain or Cherish. The nice pop songs that don't stand out against her stronger discography. 5. My fav Madonna eras are the 90s. I'm betting it'll lean more toward the 80s than the 00s but will probably still be half 90s. So maybe like 3/10 80s, 5/10 90s and 2/10 00s, 0/10 10s.

I remember when Hey You came out. It was quite dull and tame compared to the Confessions era but it wasn't awful - well, at the time it was among her worst that I'd heard but she would go on to sink lower. Revolver is a song I did enjoy, even though it's not what I'd want from her, again, she's since done worse. Not too shook by either loss though.

85. Hey You - Like someone said, it is pretty much a non-offensive bland Madonna song. It doesn't do anything for me, but I don't hate it. Having said that, I'm surprised I ranked it that high, lol.
84. Revolver - Yeah this one is a mess, but not the worst for me. To be honest, I don't care much for those that I ranked 65 and lower.
Edit: My #85 better not be in the top 80

"Promise To Try" Like a Prayer (1989)
| Points: 1 |
A recurring theme in Madonna's writing is the death of her mother, and this was the first. Like A Prayer was notable for being a much more personal work than the previous, this being one of the tracks on which it was most apparent. In the 1991 documentary Truth Or Dare, it was used during a scene where Madonna went to put flowers on her mother's grave during the tour stop in Michigan.

83. "Hanky Panky" I'm Breathless (1990)| Points: 441 | | Average: 69.67 | | Median: 73 | |Std. dev: 14.05 (9th lowest) | Certainly one of the more unusual numbers to visit the top 10, Hanky Panky was the second of two singles from 1990's Dick Tracy-inspired I'm Breathless album, the other of which we won't be seeing for quite a while. Whenever the subject of people with multiple signature hits comes up, Madonna's usually one of the first mentioned. Within a period of just over a year, she got arguably three more with Like A Prayer, Express Yourself, and Vogue, making tracks such as this trivial in retrospect. Even with the faster turnaround on the charts then, this one had a very fast rise and fall, lasting only 11 weeks on the Hot 100 and 7 on R&R's chart, the shortest for any of her top 10s.
