The people who don't think a song that only got popular because of a f**king remix with Justin Bieber. So their opinions (not to mention the money they spent on the song PLUS the time people have given to listen to the song) doesn't matter? The song is a moment in pop culture. You can argue against how much you hate the song all you want. It's massive. If anything in the last 5 years is deserving of the record, this one is it.

LOL - Giving Justin Bieber WAY TOO MUCH credit Although true the song became a hit because of Justin Bieber. He is not the reason it is still a HUGE hit 3 months laterReally, then what is, because, if it weren't for him, we wouldn't be stuck with Latin songs continuing to enter and re-enter almost every week. Attributing Bieber to the song's continued popularity is no different than saying a first-week radio deal is the reason why some big hit is a big hit. The initial impact of a radio deal, a Taylor Swift shout out, a billboard on Beverly Boulevard, etc, etc, wears off quickly. If people like the song, it sticks. If they don't, it falls. People like the song. Bieber simply got them to notice it. It's not a difficult concept.

So how many 12 week + #1 hits has Justin Bieber had before? At some point it has to be the song is resonating with people and not just because Justin Bieber's name is on the remix. That brought the song to the top, it did not keep it there.

We've already given Bieber the top 2 songs of last year anyway, why should he be given the record and not Mariah's OSD. I'd rather take Uptown Funk or Closer for the record, but not this.

I didn't want for example "Shape Of You" to beat the OSD record because that song didn't feel special enough for me to hold this record. I feel like the first Spanish song to reach #1 in the US in over twenty years is finally something that I could personally call "special enough", but that's just my opinion, I guess everybody percieves "special" differently

Funny thing about the music charts. It is a summary of ALL individual opinions and not just specific ones.
So people in this thread can say this song doesn't DESERVE to take down the Boyz II Men record but a vast majority, given the numbers, would disagree

But One Sweet Day only holds the record because it was a collaboration of two of the biggest artists of the 90's. It wouldn't have been a 16-week #1 without Mariah or Boyz II Men singing it. Mariah already had 9 numbers one before that and Boyz already held the record.

Ugh this worthless shit again.
The only songs that "deserve" anything are the ones that put up the points to do it. Hell, if Cardi fucking B puts up 17 weeks worth of the most points, then she "deserves" it.
This comes around again and again, and it's just as stupid as all the other times.

I'm not necessarily rooting for Despacito to break the record, but I hope it does get 15 weeks. 7 songs stopping at 14 weeks is enough.

'Despacito' Tops Hot 100 for 13th Week, Sets New No. 1 Record on Digital Song Sales Chart
Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee's smash single, featuring Justin Bieber, also breaks the record for most weeks (14) at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart.
Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito," featuring Justin Bieber, now owns the longest reign atop the Billboard Hot 100 in 2017, clocking a lucky 13th consecutive week at No. 1 on the chart dated Aug. 19. The stretch surpasses the 12-week rule of Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" in January through April.
"Despacito" also sets a second longevity mark this week, becoming the first song to record 14 weeks at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart.
As we do each Monday, let's run down the top 10 of the Hot 100, which blends all-genre streaming, airplay and sales data. All charts will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (Aug. 8), as they do every Tuesday.
With its latest frame, "Despacito" (released on Universal Music Latino / Raymond Braun / SchoolBoy / Def Jam / UMLE / Republic Records), becomes one of just 11 songs to have topped the Hot 100 for at least 13 weeks, dating to the chart's Aug. 4, 1958, inception. No song has led longer since Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk!," featuring Bruno Mars, dominated for 14 weeks in 2015. That track and six others are second only to Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's "One Sweet Day,â which spent an unprecedented 16 weeks atop the chart in 1995-96.
Weeks at No. 1, Title, Artist, Date Reached No. 1 16, "One Sweet Day," Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men, Dec. 2, 1995 14, "Uptown Funk!," Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars, Jan. 17, 2015 14, "I Gotta Feeling," The Black Eyed Peas, July 11, 2009 14, "We Belong Together," Mariah Carey, June 4, 2005 14, "Candle in the Wind 1997"/"Something About the Way You Look Tonight," Elton John, Oct. 11, 1997 14, "Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)," Los Del Rio, Aug. 3, 1996 14, "I'll Make Love to You," Boyz II Men, Aug. 27, 1994 14, "I Will Always Love You," Whitney Houston, Nov. 28, 1992 13 (to date), "Despacito," Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber, May 27, 2017 13, "The Boy Is Mine," Brandy & Monica, June 6, 1998 13, "End of the Road," Boyz II Men, Aug. 15, 1992
While âDespacitoâ is three weeks from equaling the all-time mark of âOne Sweet Day,â it also moves within one week of tying the record for the most weeks at No. 1 by a primarily non-English language song. As noted above, Los Del Rio's "Macarenaâ controlled the chart for 14 weeks in 1996 thanks to the popularity of its Bayside Boys remix.
As "Despacito" continues to dominate, the song rewrites the No. 1 record on the Digital Song Sales chart with a 14th week atop the list since the chartâs arrival on Oct. 30, 2004. The song sells 84,000 downloads (down 17 percent) in the week ending August 3, according to Nielsen Music.
The 14th frame atop Digital Song Sales eclipses the previous chart record of 13 shared by three songs: Flo Ridaâs âLowâ feat. T-Pain (2007-2008), âUptown Funk!â (2015) and The Chainsmokersâ âCloser,â featuring Halsey (2016).
On the Streaming Songs chart, "Despacito" leads for a 13th week, with 49.8 million U.S. streams (down 6 percent) in the week ending August 3. The track again tops all three of the Hot 100's main component charts, as it leads the all-format Radio Songs chart for a fifth week with 141 million in all-format airplay audience (down 1 percent) in the week ending August 6.
The âDespacitoâ triple crown of No. 1 ranks on Radio Songs, Digital Song Sales and Streaming Songs for a fifth week in a row is the longest consecutive stretch since âCloserâ topped each list for six straight frames in October â November last year.
"Despacito" also captures a 27th week atop the Hot Latin Songs chart and extends its reign on the Songs of the Summer survey to 10 weeks, having led the latter list each week since its annual return just after Memorial Day.
DJ Khaled's "Wild Thoughts," featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, keeps at its No. 2 Hot 100 perch. It remains at No. 2 on Streaming Songs (34.8 million, down 1 percent); ascends 3-2 on Radio Songs (128 million, up 9 percent); and slides 8-9 on Digital Song Sales (34,000, down 5 percent).
"Thoughts" crowns the Hot R&B Songs chart for a fifth week and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a fourth frame.
French Montanaâs âUnforgettable,â featuring Swae Lee, steps 6-3 to a new Hot 100 high. The song surges 21-8 on Digital Song Sales (37,000, up 52 percent), while holding at No. 4 on Streaming Songs (27.7 million streams, up 3 percent) and powering 15-11 on Radio Songs (81 million, up 9 percent.)
âUnforgettableâ also struts to No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs chart, becoming the first leader on the list for both Montana and Swae Lee as a soloist.
Back on the Hot 100, Bruno Marsâ âThatâs What I Likeâ retreats 3-4 after having previously reached No. 1 on the May 13-dated chart. Imagine Dragons' "Believer" rounds out the top five, while ruling the Hot Rock Songs chart for a 22nd week.
DJ Khaledâs âIâm The One,â featuring Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, dips 4-6, after having debuted at No. 1 on the May 20-dated chart. Charlie Puthâs âAttentionâ lifts 9-7 to a new peak, and becomes the singer-songwriterâs highest-charting Hot 100 hit as a lead artist, passing the No. 9 high of âWe Donât Talk Anymore,â featuring Selena Gomez, last October. (Puth featured on Wiz Khalifaâs âSee You Again,â a 12-week No. 1 hit in 2015.)
Shawn Mendes' "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back" maintains its No. 8 peak, while Sheeranâs âShapeâ declines 7-9. Sam Hunt's "Body Like a Back Road" is steady at No. 10 after reaching No. 6 in April. âBack Roadâ extends its historic run on the Hot Country Songs chart with a record 26th week at the summit, further outpacing the previous 24-week milestone of Florida Georgia Lineâs âCruiseâ (2013-14).
Beyond the Hot 100's top 10, Cardi Bâs breakthrough hit âBodak Yellow (Money Moves)â zooms into the top 20 with a 28-14 leap and scores the chart's Streaming Gainer award. Two more newcomers also celebrate career landmarks by reaching the Hot 100âs top 40 for the first time: Portugal, The Man, whose âFeel It Stillâ soars 55-34 and SZA with âLove Galore,â featuring Travis Scott, which climbs 46-37. Directly beneath the pair, Future claims the weekâs highest debut on the Hot 100 with âYou Da Baddest,â featuring Nicki Minaj, a No. 38 arrival.
Find out more Hot 100 news in the weekly "Hot 100 Chart Moves" column and by listening (and subscribing) to Billboard's Chart Beat Podcast and Pop Shop Podcast, all posting this week. Once again, be sure to visit Billboard.com tomorrow (Aug. 8), when all charts, including the Hot 100 in its entirety, will refresh.

Three more weeks for Despacito to break the record, right? (14 weeks seems guaranteed)
It lost more than the predictions...
Things are getting interesting.

Cardi is NOT going to be the one to overtake Despacito. If no new releases come before September aside from Pink who isn't really a threat YET, I'm willing to bet (as I have been the last two months) that it will be Wild Thoughts.

No I wrote it right the first time. At 13 weeks at #1, this song ceased being about "Bieber fever" a long time ago. Now it is about the song
