"Anyone who had a heart Would take me in his arms and love me too You couldn't really have a heart And hurt me like you hurt me, and be so untrue What am I to do?"RELEASED: May 17th, 2015 Danish-Australian singer and The Voice winner Anja Nissen has already (rightly) appeared dead last with her debut single 'I'm So Bored Excited' and her second charting single hasn't fared much better. The song is a cover of the Dionne Warwick hit from 1963, recorded for use in promotional material for the Australian drama 'Love Child', which is set in the 1960's. Its use in ads for the show helped it gain enough recognition to chart briefly before the song disappeared again. Anja has not been seen on the Australian charts since, but has gained visibility instead from her foray into the Eurovision Song Contest. MY THOUGHTS: I didn't check out Anja's cover of this song when it was out, because at the time I was still annoyed at her for the career f**k-up that was allying herself with Will-u-quit, who did nothing for her. But since she became relevant again I did finally listen to it, and I like it. But it is an obscure cover of an old song so I guess I'm not too surprised it didn't fare very well. I knew "If Looks Could Kill" would be out early, but it was a guilty pleasure for me. I actually like "Set It Off" a lot more.
Anja's songs in here didn't really interest me. "Where I Am" and the other one from Summertime Madness were solid though.

The next song cuts into yet another person's top 10; it also spent most of the game in the 70's, only sliding up into the 60's twice. The last ranking is what saved it from finishing more than 10 places lower.

"Why does it feel so lonely? When I'm your one and only Why can't I feel you hold me? Why does it feel so lonely?"RELEASED: April 9th, 2010 Chris Sorbello barely even came and went; 'So Lonely' was released as her debut single, and despite the song performing well on the ARIA club chart, on the main singles chart it spent a lone week in the top 40 before disappearing. Chris Sorbello was never to be seen again on the charts, with follow-up single 'Dangerzone' dead on arrival and no album ever released. MY THOUGHTS: I thought this song was so boring when I first heard it, and it still does nothing for me. I'm sad 'Dangerzone' was such a failure because that song (and its music video) is vastly superior. I'm maybe a little surprised at the high rankings this got? But then again, maybe you guys found an appeal to this song that I didn't. @antigonerising #7 Billie #11 Juan Carlos #37 Leo ✔ #46 maine #51 Normi #69 willapted33 #70 DistrictTwelve #71 Az Paynter #72 Beno #78 THE PEANUT GALLERY@walker9 @jamesflame Mylo13 💜

"I don't wanna waste tonight Let's turn out all the lights now Make out on your bedroom floor"RELEASED: April 10th, 2012 'Shut Up & Kiss Me' was the lead single from Reece Mastin's sophomore album 'Beautiful Nightmare', becoming his second top 2 hit. It was written and produced by the same team as 'Good Night', but this time with Reece also being part of the writing and creative process. Two further top 20 hits spawned from the album, but the fourth single from 'Beautiful Nightmare' failed and Reece parted ways with his label soon after. MY THOUGHTS: Because I'm not a fan of Reece I wouldn't have been checking for this song when it was out, but it was one I looked into when determining the song selection for this game. It doesn't annoy me like 'Good Night' does, and it only did as poorly as it did on my list because it got pushed down by all of the songs I like. "The traveling, the singing, it don't meant nothing without you The fast cars, the guitars, they are all just second to This life, this love that you and I've been dreaming of for so long Would all be as good as gone without you"RELEASED: February 7th, 2011 Keith Urban doesn't have many charting songs on the main singles chart in Australia, given that country music is a much more niche market here. This single from his 7th album 'Get Closer' was his first entry of the 2010's, with a brief run in the top 40. In the US it was a #1 country hit, with a peak of #52 on the Hot 100. This the first to appear of the three songs Keith has in this rankdown. MY THOUGHTS: I've heard this song on the radio a few times and I don't have a problem with the sentiment behind the song, but otherwise I'm not really into it that much. I do recognise there's an element of cultural bias here, since country music is much more niche here compared to the US, but even after having done his rankdown there are plenty of other Keith singles that I prefer (including the other two songs in this game). "Boom boom, New York to Cali Boom boom, London, Miami Boom boom, them girls be slamming"RELEASED: July 2nd, 2012 Australian pop group Justice Crew initially formed as a dance troupe in 2009, and rose to fame after winning the fourth season of Australia's Got Talent. Following this, they signed a record deal with Sony Music Australia and began releasing their own music. 'Boom Boom' became their first #1 hit in Australia, and was also the first single from their eventual 2014 album 'Live By The Words'. The song has a history that provides context to the group's attempt to launch it in the US; written by Jay Sean, it was originally recorded by rapper Pitbull who passed over the song. Pitbull subsequently heard Justice Crew's version while visiting Australia, and signed the group to his label in order to release the song stateside. It didn't catch on. MY THOUGHTS: I didn't care for any of Justice Crew's prior singles, but this one is actually pretty good. I'm just surprised Pitbull didn't remix the song for its US release, especially since it was his song first (which I didn't actually know before). I wish it had fared better here, but I guess people saw it as a generic club song and tanked it accordingly. maine #17 Normi #24 Az Paynter #25 Beno #33 Juan Carlos #50 DistrictTwelve #56 willapted33 #69 @antigonerising #72 Leo ✔ #77 Billie #78 THE PEANUT GALLERY@walker9 @jamesflame Mylo13 💜

Reece Mastin was one of the main reasons I really got into music. I LOVED his first two albums when they came out (his debut was the first album I ever bought), but after relistening to the songs for this rankdown, they haven't aged that well with me at all. They still get high rankings for nostalgia's sake.

No I'm not abandoning this lol, and I'm gonna do another set of reveals today. We're gonna start off with the two honourable mentions I meant to post at the conclusion of the previous set, and then we'll move on to #60 through #51. In this upcoming set we'll see two artists with multiple entries lose back-to-back entries. One of these artists will have all their songs eliminated because of this. Three people will ditch their #80 in this set, and someone will be the first person to lose their #1. We'll also see the 5th biggest and 4th smallest standard deviations of the game in this set. Also speaking of SD's we've already seen the second-lowest SD with 'Closer' in the 70's, and I forgot to mention it. "We're on a timebomb, it might not last long So let's just do it right now, do it come on We're on a timebomb, before the night's gone Let's just do it right now, do it come on, come on"RELEASED: March 28th, 2012 'Timebomb' was released as a standalone single in 2012 as part of KM25, a year-long celebration of Kylie Minogue's 25 years in the music industry as of 2012. The song was met with strong critical acclaim, but commercial reception was mixed. In Australia it debuted just shy of the top 10, but spent only one more week in the top 50 before it fell out. It is her highest-peaking single released during the 2010's, and is also currently her second-to-last appearance on the ARIA chart as a lead artist. MY THOUGHTS: Admittedly my fandom of Kylie's music gravitates more toward her Deconstruction years and her earlier Parlophone days, but this is a great song, and it's a damn shame it wasn't a big hit. This missed the cut for the current decade's game because of the difficulty whittling the list down, and in the end I decided to leave Kylie out because she would have greater representation in future instalments of the game as we go further back through time. This would've been strong on my list in any case. "I won't look back tonight This is the time of my life Underneath these stars Dancing with a broken heart"RELEASED: August 10th, 2012 Delta Goodrem released 'Dancing With A Broken Heart' as the second single from her fourth album 'Child Of The Universe'. After the major success of its predecessor the song underperformed, becoming the lowest peaking of the album's three singles with a short chart life. Two versions of the song exist; first is the single version, and second is the remixed album version. The song was covered in 2017 by UK dance-pop band Steps, who released their version in the UK as the lead single from the re-release of their fifth album. Their version was never released outside the UK, where it was unsuccessful. MY THOUGHTS: I think the single version is vastly superior to the album version, and I quite like the song as a single. It was left off the final selection because the other two singles were better representative of the album (not to mention they were bigger hits lol). Also I haaaate the Steps version and I would like to kill it with fire. "I’ve been dreaming of a future, maybe we could be together I’m never gonna lose you baby, we can live forever Let's talk"RELEASED: March 13th, 2015 Daniel Johns is better known as the frontman of Australian rock band Silverchair, but his solo material released in 2015 is a major departure from his work with that band. 'Aerial Love' was released as part of an EP prior to his debut solo album 'Talk'. The title track of the EP was the main single from the EP, which charted briefly but due to its experimental feel and because it contrasts so strongly with Silverchair's material, its chart time was short-lived. DistrictTwelve says goodbye to his #80, meanwhile Leo loses a top 20 and Cynthia comes damn close to losing her #1. 'Aerial Love' has the 5th highest SD of the game. MY THOUGHTS: I knew this song would be a bit of an acquired taste, and it's not my favourite song of his but I do like it. His falsetto can be a little bit grating, especially since it's used so prominently throughout the song; otherwise I probably would have ranked it higher on my list. I'm glad it was able to escape the bottom 20 at least, even if it barely managed to do so. @antigonerising #2 Leo ✔ #15 Az Paynter #35 Beno #47 Juan Carlos #49 willapted33 #60 ( P-P-P-P-PERFECT RANKING!) maine #62 Billie #73 Normi #78 DistrictTwelve #80 {Songs Remaining} 5 Seconds Of Summer - Amnesia 5 Seconds Of Summer - She Looks So Perfect Betty Who - I Love You Always Forever Birds Of Tokyo - Lanterns Birds Of Tokyo - Plans Bonnie Anderson - Blackout Brian McFadden - Mistakes (ft. "To all my people on the dance floor, set it off We running hot we about to get low, set it off And if you're sexy and you want more, set it off"RELEASED: November 18th, 2011 'Set It Off' was the major label debut single by singer/dancer Timomatic; it was the biggest hit from his debut album, peaking at #2 and selling 4x Platinum. Timomatic co-wrote the song with DNA Songs, who also produced the track, and it was chosen for his debut single because Timomatic felt it was the perfect representation of his energy and his love of dance. The follow-up single 'If Looks Could Kill' previously appeared in this rankdown. MY THOUGHTS: I didn't like this song at first, but it grew on me after I heard 'If Looks Could Kill' which is a jam and a HALF. Even then, there was a lot of stuff on this list which I like more, so even though I don't hate it, the song did suffer in my rankings. I'm also disappointed this outlasted ILCK because the other song is superior. maine #16 Beno #17 Normi #30 DistrictTwelve #42 Juan Carlos #57 Az Paynter #59 ( P-P-P-P-PERFECT RANKING!) "Come and run my red light, don't you stop 'Cause I love the way you're playing it honest To get in the dark"RELEASED: June 28th, 2013 After winning The X Factor AUS and finally kickstarting her career with a #1 hit and a successful debut album, Samantha Jade set out to complete her second record (and first of original material). 'Firestarter' was released as the first single from the intended record, scoring her a second top 10 hit. The song was previewed in commercials for the fifth season of The X Factor, the season following her win. The music video of the song won an ARIA award for 'Best Video' at the 27th ARIA Music Awards. While in Australia 'Firestarter' is a non-album single, it is considered the de facto second single from her self-titled debut when it was included on the Indonesian release of the album. 'Firestarter' bears the 4th lowest SD in the game. MY THOUGHTS: I like this song a lot, but I prefer the singles that followed it so it kinda got lost in the shuffle in my rankings. I'm not a huge fan of the video though, it looks quite basic and cheap - but that's a staple of most Aussie pop videos, we never had the big-budget stuff you'd see coming from American artists. Dance-pop suits Samantha IMO, her voice works well over a dance production. willapted33 #26 Az Paynter #38 Billie #38 Juan Carlos #45 Leo ✔ #45 Beno #46 Normi #57 @antigonerising #62 DistrictTwelve #66 maine #72 {Songs Remaining} 5 Seconds Of Summer - Amnesia 5 Seconds Of Summer - She Looks So Perfect Betty Who - I Love You Always Forever Birds Of Tokyo - Lanterns Birds Of Tokyo - Plans Bonnie Anderson - Blackout Brian McFadden - Mistakes (ft. Sammi is the first to lose back-to-back songs in this set. "You're a hundred light years ahead A million miles away from the sun Kill the lights and take me to heaven Turning it, turning it up!"RELEASED: April 11th, 2014 'Up!' was the third in a run of non-album singles from Samantha Jade; it was her fourth top 20 hit, and was used as the official Socceroos song for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The video was heavily panned for being low-budget and having little to do with the event. A second video was also released, featuring clips of the Australian soccer team intercut with footage of Samantha in a soccer-themed photoshoot. Featured as a b-side to the single was Samantha's version of 'Never Tear Us Apart' by INXS; around the time the single was being promoted, she starred as Kylie Minogue in a two-part Australian tele-movie about the Australian rock band, and her version of the song was used in promotional material. MY THOUGHTS: This is probably my second-favourite Samantha single behind 'Soldier' (still to come!) and the frustrating thing for me is, that her songs are so good but the videos are so bad. This song's poor performance makes me sad 'cause it's kind of reflective of the indifference she's continued to face in Australia when it comes to her music. "One taste of my apple pie, satisfy your appetite So baby get ready for this 'cause it's about to get serious"RELEASED: March 23rd, 2012 'Do It Like That' further cemented the comeback of Ricki-Lee after her first go at a third album era stalled out. The comeback began with 'Raining Diamonds' hitting the top 20 in 2011, and 'Do It Like That' became her biggest hit in 4 years. It was the largest hit of the 'Fear & Freedom' era with a top 15 peak and a 2x Platinum certification. The song was first teased with the premiere of a Fred Falke remix; this version features a much more synth-driven and darker atmosphere than the bouncy, percussive main version. When 'Fear & Freedom' was released in Japan, 'Do It Like That' hit the top 10 on the Japan Hot 100. MY THOUGHTS: How are ya'll gonna do this bop so wrong?! This is the catchiest song from this album and one of my favourite Ricki songs. I'm gutted ya'll weren't really feeling it.
