Welcome to Az's ARIA Assortment! This is a selection of Australian chart entries by Australians in Australia (#DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment) as selected by myself. This edition of my ARIA Assortment focuses on the present decade, beginning from 2010 through to this year. It features 80 songs that charted in the top 50 of the ARIA chart during this time frame. For the purposes of this particular rankdown I have avoided most US crossover hits (ie. songs that were big on the Hot 100 or on pop radio) as to try and prevent unfair advantages for well-known songs - which for example cuts out popular songs by Sia or Iggy Azalea (so no 'Cheap Thrills' or 'Fancy'). I will be revealing 5 songs a day over the next few weeks - which sounds like a lot for a drip-feed, but at the same time, 80 songs! These songs will be revealed in a randomly determined order (I stuck the list through a randomizer and I'm just following that). The following post will introduce the first 5 songs; from the following years: Song #1: This band has had middling success on US pop radio, but they've had greater success on the Billboard albums chart. ( From 2014) Song #2: This Australian hip hop outfit trio made headlines this year for an accident during a video shoot that resulted in the death of a stuntman. ( From 2014) Song #3: This song is just beginning to gain traction in the US; the vocalist used to be part of a boyband but recently broke out solo. ( From 2017) Song #4: One of my absolute fave Aussie singers who I've supported since she began her career. This song has drawn comparisons to Beyoncé. ( From 2012) Song #5: This artist is one of three entries that Australia has sent to Eurovision, but the song itself is not a Eurovision entry. ( From 2016)

Yes to Bliss N Eso, but it's not that song. 4. Not by Jess Mauboy; that song isn't in this rankdown although she does have several songs to show up later.

SONG #1: 5 Seconds Of Summer - She Looks So Perfect
I'll be blunt; I don't like 5SOS and I don't like this song either. That said, the impact they've made as a commercial entity can't be denied. I chose to include this song (and one other upcoming song by 5SOS) despite their success in the States, because I think they're a somewhat polarizing band, which could offset any familiarity advantage they receive.
SONG #2: Bliss N Eso - My Life (ft. Ceekay Jones)
Bliss N Eso have been around for quite a long time actually; the trio formed back in 2000, and while they have never had a breakout hit single on the ARIA chart they have found greater success as albums artists, with their past three records all peaking at #1 on the albums chart. This song features guest vocals from American singer Ceekay Jones, who provides the hook.
SONG #3: Jonas Blue - Mama (ft. William Singe)
William Singe first came to prominence as part of boyband The Collective. That band was an attempted Australian counterpart to One Direction, in that they were a group of solo males auditioning for The X Factor Australia that were assembled together as a group. The Collective were the 3rd place runners-up of their respective season, losing out to dark horse favourite Samantha Jade (also appearing multiple times in this rankdown). William's first solo venture was as a guest rapper on his season's 4th place runner-up Bella Ferraro's single 'Forget You', before leaving The Collective to go solo. He has since signed a new deal in the US and is the featured vocalist on what looks to be the breakout US hit for British producer Jonas Blue.
SONG #4: Ricki-Lee - Do It Like That
Ricki-Lee is one of the longest-lasting exports from Australian Idol. She successfully made the final 12 for the second season of the hit franchise in 2004, and was the hot favourite to win until complacency set in and a lack of votes led to what was widely seen as a shock elimination in 7th place. 'Do It Like That' is the 2nd single from her 3rd studio album 'Fear & Freedom' and the largest hit from that record. The original version of the song has drawn comparisons to Beyoncé, while a remix produced by Fred Falke changes the tone of the song completely, transforming it into a moody synth-led electronic dance track.
SONG #5: Isaiah Firebrace - It's Gotta Be You
Isaiah Firebrace is the latest (and final) winner of The X Factor Australia. Isaiah released 'It's Gotta Be You' as his debut single following his victory at the tail end of 2016, and the single enjoyed some international success in Europe - which, coupled with his heritage as an Indigenous Australian, may have contributed to his selection as Australia's representative for Eurovision in 2017. I was not impressed with his song, but he still netted us a third consecutive top 10 finish so I guess I can't complain too much...
IN TOMORROW'S REVEAL:
Song #6: This song was released as a single in the States, but it sadly did not perform as well as its predecessor. (From 2016) Song #7: This singer won Australia's Got Talent at age 12, but did not release music for years following her win. (From 2014) Song #8: This is the same artist as song #6. (From 2017) Song #9: I believe Juan Carlos is a fan of the vocalist on this song by an Australian EDM duo. (From 2017) Song #10: I have no idea why this song is credited as an Australian single, but for whatever reason ARIA has. (From 2010)

If there are hits by The Veronicas, those will be heavily biased toward the top in my list...

Vance Joy isn't in this rankdown. I did think about him though. Extra clue for #6 and #8 if it helps: Both songs are collaborations with non-Australians.

Well... I'm looking forward to this, despite of the following. Vance Joy isn't in this rankdown. Rude.
Song #9: I believe Juan Carlos is a fan of the vocalist on this song by an Australian EDM duo. (From 2017) Aluna Francis of AlunaGeorge. <3

peacebone: "Hyperreal" couldn't be an option because Kučka is Australian. If Flume is indeed the artist, I guess it may be "Enough" or "Weekend".

It hasn't been long at all but I'm anxious to reveal more songs lmao. SONG #6: Troye Sivan - Wild (ft. Alessia Cara)Yeah lol, nobody guessed Troye #Oops Anyway, this first charted in Australia when the solo version (and the 'Wild' EP) were released, and it charted again last year when the duet version with Alessia Cara was released as a single. I'd hoped this would do better in the US after 'Youth' was a hit but it didn't work out that way. SONG #7: Bonnie Anderson - BlackoutYes, Bonnie first appeared on Australia's Got Talent ten years ago at the age of 12. She was offered a recording contract with Sony Music Australia soon after, which she signed - but she took the time to grow and develop as an artist and songwriter, and to "just be a kid for a while" before releasing any music. She made her debut in 2013 with 'Raise The Bar', and has released a string of singles following - but only 'Blackout' has managed to chart so far. SONG #8: Martin Garrix & Troye Sivan - There For YouI thought this would be serviced to pop radio in the US after 'Scared To Be Lonely' peaked, but that didn't happen and this song has also gone nowhere. Aside from being a fan of Troye's music, this song was also included in part due to slim pickings in regards to Australian artists charting so far this year. SONG #9: Peking Duk & AlunaGeorge - Fake MagicAdmittedly I haven't paid much attention to either Peking Duk or AlunaGeorge, and what I've heard of AlunaGeorge I wasn't a fan of. This song, I found I enjoyed Aluna's vocals on it. This is also here to represent 2017 in Aussie songs; there is only one more song from this year appearing in this rankdown. SONG #10: Brian McFadden - Just Say So (ft. Kevin Rudolf)Okay this one makes no f**king sense lmao, nobody involved with this song is Australian at all - Brian McFadden is Irish, his co-writer is American, and Kevin Rudolf (who produced the song) is also American. Despite this, ARIA has credited this as an Australian single. I can only guess this is because Brian was signed to Universal Music Australia at the time, and being released through a local label is why it's considered by ARIA to be an Australian release. IN THE NEXT REVEAL REVEAL:Song #11: Another X Factor contestant; from the same season as Samantha Jade and William Singe. ( From 2013) Song #12: ...Hitbullegend *massive eyeroll* ( From 2015) Song #13: E U R O V I S I O N. ( From 2016) Song #14: This female singer and her brother are the first siblings to chart at #1 in Australia as separate acts. ( From 2015) Song #15: This female singer released three singles in a row with internationally-recognized male guest features. This is the third of those singles. ( From 2011)
