lol Why does everyone want Despacito to fail? Because it is an extremely generic and bland song with disgusting lyrics. In other words, it's s**t. *shrugs* I actually kind of like it. Plus I like the underdog in music to win

Rooting for Despacito to break the record, we have come this far might as well challenge it!
Anyway, Bodak Yellow is the first solo female song to reach the top 5 since what?

I still to this day don't know what they say on the song but I grew to like it anyway and I really don't believe you I didn't either before I saw the Todd in the Shadows video on it...I mean it's nothing too explicit but yeah it probably wouldn't be as big of a hit as it is if it was in English lmao. They also just sound really awkward and poorly translated.

www.yahoo.com/music/chart-watch-kesha-debuts-no-1-211200609.htmlChart Watch: Kesha debuts at No. 1Yahoo Music by Paul Grein, Writer Yahoo Music August 21, 2017 Top SongsLuis Fonsi & Daddy Yankeeβs βDespacitoβ (featuring Justin Bieber) tops the Hot 100 for the 15th week. Only one other single has spent as much or more time at No. 1 since the Hot 100 was introduced in 1958. Thatβs βOne Sweet Dayβ by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men, which had 16 weeks on top in 1995-96. βDespacitoβ surpasses Los Del Rioβs βMacarena (Bayside Boys Mix)β to become the longest-running No. 1 hit sung primarily in another language (Spanish). βDespacitoβ also becomes the longest-running No. 1 hit so far in the 21st Century. βDespacitoβ sold 83K digital copies in the U.S. this week, which puts it on top of Top Digital Songs for the 16th week. Thatβs the longest run at No. 1 in the history of that chart (which dates to October 2004). βDespacitoβ is in its 31st week on the Top Digital Songs chart. Itβs the first song to rank No. 1 that deep into its run since Adeleβs βSet Fire to the Rainβ hit No. 1 in its 47th week on the chart in January 2012. You may remember that DJ Khaledβs βIβm the One,β which also features Bieber, interrupted βDespacitoβsβ reign at No. 1 on Top Digital Songs for one week. Thus, this is the 17th consecutive week that Bieber has been featured on the weekβs top-selling digital hitβan unprecedented occurrence. βDespacitoβ logs its 15th week at No. 1 on Top Streaming Songs, which sets a new record for the most weeks at No. 1 on that chart. The old record was held by Desiignerβs βPanda,β which stayed on top for 14 weeks in 2016. DJ Khaledβs βWild Thoughtsβ (featuring Rihanna & Bryson Tiller) logs its sixth week at No. 2 on the Hot 100. The song includes a prominent sample from Santanaβs βMaria, Mariaβ (featuring The Product G&B), which logged 10 weeks at No. 1 in 2000. Will βWild Thoughtsβ also reach No. 1? Probablyβbut will it hold off long enough to let βDespacitoβ tie βOne Sweet Dayβ? Stay tuned. βWild Thoughtsβ is No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for the sixth week. Cardi B βs βBodak Yellow (Money Moves)β jumps from No. 8 to No. 3 in its seventh week. This is the highest ranking for a single by a female solo artist unaccompanied by another artist since Meghan Trainorβs βNoβ hit No. 3 in April 2016. Cardi B is vying to become the first female artist to hit No. 1 unaccompanied by another artist since Adele was out front for 10 weeks in 2015-16 with βHello.β Cardi B got her big break in 2015, when she became a regular cast member of the VH1 reality series Love & Hip Hop: New York. French Montanaβs βUnforgettableβ (featuring Swae Lee) dips from its No. 3 peak to No. 4 in its 19th week. Imagine Dragonsβ βBelieverβ dips from its No. 4 peak to No. 5 in its 28th week. Charlie Puthβs βAttentionβ dips from its No. 5 peak to No. 6 in its 17th week. Shawn Mendesβs βThereβs Nothing Holdinβ Me Backβ dips from its No. 6 peak to No. 7 in its 17th week. Bruno Marsβs βThatβs What I Likeβ dips from No. 7 to No. 8 in its 31st week. The song hit No. 1. Ed Sheeranβs βShape of Youβ holds at No. 9 in its 32nd week. The song logged 12 weeks at No. 1. βShape of Youβ is one of only three singles in Hot 100 history to spend 32 weeks in the top 10. It follows LeAnn Rimesβ βHow Do I Liveβ and The Chainsmokersβ βCloserβ (featuring Halsey). Thus, βShape of Youβ has had a longer run in the top 10 than any other hit by a male solo artist. The old record was held by Mark Ronsonβs βUptown Funk!β (featuring Bruno Mars), which logged 31 weeks in the top 10. Sam Huntβs βBody Like A Back Roadβ rebounds from No. 11 to No. 10 in its 29th week. The smash tops Billboardβs Hot Country Songs chart for a record-extending 28th week. DJ Khaledβs βIβm the Oneβ (which features Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne) drops out of the top 10 this week. Coming Attractions: Look for Justin Bieber & Bloodpopβs βFriendsβ and, perhaps, a new Taylor Swift single to blast onto next weekβs chart.

So apparently she is making a single with a "high profile Canadian artist". Drake? The Weeknd?

^could also be Alessia Cara. She did support her music and even interviewed her. I think it's one of those three, though Drake is less likely.

Bodak Yellow continues it's All About That Bass-like trajectory. Not to mention there's a very good chance it will also be competing with a Taylor Swift lead single for the spot for quite some time throughout Fall.

I hope it's Alessia or The Weeknd.
Actually, Alessia and Taylor having a major hit would be amazing considering the relative lack of female-led hits on the Hot 100 this year.

I bet it's Shawn Mendes. That'll feel uneventful. I hope it's The Weeknd or something completely unexpected and unlikely like Celine Dion or Anne Murray lol

Guys, calm down. Nothing's certain, like, at all. A gal on radio said it, and radio hosts here often say dumb shit. It could very well be just it.

So on the topic of Swift, is the song gonna be released on Thursday. Nothing confirmed but the US Weekly article, which is the closest thing to a confirmation we have, said Friday. The rumors from last week all said 08/25 as well. Considering Taylor Swift is an avid chart watcher herself, it makes sense. She wants that #1.

The 16th week is basically a done deal. The only suspense left might be if a #1 debut could stop a 17th week

Despacito is getting week 16. We are already close to Tuesday and nothing is even close to it.
I'm not sure why Paul Grein seems so certain that Wild Thoughts will eventually reach #1. The discount did fine last week but the difference between it and Despacito this week should actually increase, considering sales are plummeting. By the time Despacito drops to Wild Thoughts' level, they might both be below something like Bodak Yellow, the eventual Swift release or something like Unforgettable, which still has a lot of room to grow on airplay.

Yeah I'm almost sure Wild Thoughts will never have more points in its chart run. Even something short term like 4 weeks from now Bodak and Taylor will be near 25k ahead of both of them

I'm guessing Paul Grein is trying to create drama where there is very little. Despacito is going to grow its lead over Wild Thoughts this week (most likely) due to the discount and consistent streaming numbers, but why try to spoil Billboard's big moment next Monday? They may very well say it's close all week to build suspense, but again, unless Taylor releases something tomorrow and it sells a ton, the record is tied.

The 16th week is basically a done deal. The only suspense left might be if a #1 debut could stop a 17th week I wouldn't necessarily say so, the one thing blocking it being if Taylor releases by tomorrow, because the first three days is usually when the vast majority of download sales occur for a high-profile opener and she could still amass quite a bit of streaming, and there will be six full days of airplay, including the first day radio deal if there is one. But a lot of it has to do with exactly how much she ends up selling and/or streaming the first seven day period after whenever it's released. If it ends up only being 200k that would make a difference and would be crucial she releases on Friday to get #1, but if the figure is more like 500k+ it might not matter. Born this Way debuted at #1 after only 3 sales days because it was so monstrous, selling 450k those first 3 days alone. But we're all forgetting that even if she does debut at #1 she might not stay there very long, in which case Despacito could very likely return to match or break the record. I'm just happy though that it made it to 15 weeks, breaking the 14 week curse!!

How in the hell is Shape of You still Top 10?! Last week on Billboard, Shape of You is #7 on radio, #11 on streaming and #25 on digital sales and for sure it didn't drop hard this week on all those components. Plus there's few songs rising fast or big enough to replace it (and That's What I Like)

Odds of Despacito going back to 1 the week after Taylor gets her 1 for 17 weeks?

Odds of Despacito going back to 1 the week after Taylor gets her 1 for 17 weeks? who knew. if taylor did debut at #1 but it's weaker than expected and bodak yellow haven't surpassed despacito in two weeks, then yeah, i guess it can happen.
