Motownphilly- known as one of the 1st songs to usher in the New Jack Swing era I have to take exception to this one. "Motownphilly" dropped in 1991. New Jack Swing had been mainstreams for years to that point; from Bobby Brown's late 1980s hits to other late 1980s hits like "I Want Her" and "Just Got Paid" and "Poison" and even to Mariah's "Someday," NJS was a well-established sound before "Motownphilly" dropped.

Can i ask a question? BIIM had 3 massive Hot 100 no.1s with so many weeks at the top, because of huge sales, huge airplay or both? Some big no.2 hits were blocked by them
Considering they also sold albums very well with the first 2 albums sold 20 million combined in US alone.

Either way, their hits were also huge on pop radio. They had 5 #1s from the end of 91 to the end of 95: gghunt.utasites.cloud/charts/b2m.html

We can tell from certifications a lot of their 1990s singles sold well, but they had good airplay too: "Motownphilly" went Platinum "It's So Hard..." is Gold (I know it got to at least #2 in sales) "End of the Road" went Platinum and was a #1 seller (#3 year-end in sales and #1 year-end Top 40 airplay) "In the Still of the Nite" went Platinum "I'll Make Love to You" went Platinum (#2 year-end sales and #9 year-end airplay) "On Bended Knee" went Platinum (it was #1 in airplay for awhile too) "Water Runs Dry" went Gold despite being a fourth single (#2 airplay behind "I'll Be There For You," top 10 sales) "One Sweet Day" went 2x platinum in the 1990s and is now 3x Platinum Even their third album had two Platinum singles ("4 Seasons" and "A Song for Mama") despite the album sales being a big drop.

They were BORING thatโs why they flopped Boyz II Men were NOT boring and they did not flop. If they were boring they would not have done so well in such a short time period. Boyz II Men like, every other male group in the 90s and afterwards, just had a natural decline. Simple.

I agree that BIIM fell out of favor in the early 2000โs because of the trends were changing. I look at R&R magazine all lot and BIIM used to get airplay on multiple formats like AC, Hot AC, CHR/Rhythmic, CHR/Pop and Urban/Urban AC in the mid 90โs. By the Early 2000โs their singles were being only pushed to Urban AC because โPass You Byโ(2000), โThank You in Advanceโ(2000), โColor of Loveโ(2002), โRelax Your Mindโ(2002) from their 2000 album โNathan, Michael, Shawn, Wanyaโ and Full Circle, etc were being played on KJLH Los Angeles during the 2000-2002 period. Iโve been a fan BIIMโs catalog for as long as I can remember even though I was only a baby (1993-95) while they were in their prime ๐.
