For whatever reason, after the success of the Martina era, Martina decided she was ready to take a new approach. She was basically at the height of her success, in the middle of her commercial peak...and she decided to honor the artists who paved the way for her by releasing a cover album of some of the songs that shaped her journey and her musical identity. She did it to pay respect to those who made her career possible, and frankly, I think at this point in her career she was also just feeling inspired to try something different! While Martina is technically considered one of the pop/country divas of the '90s and '00s, like Faith/Shania/LeAnn and others, she always seemed to push back a little bit to make sure that she didn't abandon her country roots. After the pop success that came with "I Love You" a few years prior, and then the pop and hot AC attention that came from the Martina era, this album seemed to be her way of re-centering herself as an artist, and reminding everybody who she truly was.

If anybody is unfamiliar with this album that is considering participating, I would recommend giving it a chance of course, just like any of Martina's albums! But just be aware that it is different from a normal Martina album. She recorded country songs from the '60s and '70s, and they sound like songs from the '60s and '70s. She didn't try to polish them up or modernize them; she did her best to remain faithful to the spirit of the original. She even went so far as to rent vintage microphones and amps and other studio equipment so that the recording experience felt more authentic, and sounds more authentic!

The album went on to be her most commercially successful studio album, and remains a favorite among country traditionalists. The album didn't see much radio success, so it will be pretty cool to see how an album with less radio bias is going to turn out!!

Before you jump on this (there's always an early bird or two... Lol), just be aware that the studio version of the bonus track "Let It Be Me" is literally impossible to find. However, Kanenrá:ke is going to upload it to YouTube sometime tonight! Then I will link it here so you all will be able to find it :)

the bonus tracks are amazing. I really hope everyone takes the time to listen to them and rank them fairly because at least 2 of them deserve Top 10 easily!!!

Well there’s a few reasons I’m excited for this particular albums rabkdown. Firstly I love all these songs, both Martina’s take on them but perhaps more importantly the originals! I believe unlike many other album rankdowns having these be all covers of classics will mean the smaller details will be more important.
There’s also asong I have lower on the list simply because I felt Martina’s vocal performance didn’t capture the character as much as the original.

Theoretically yes, but if you would like to request an extension it is possible I could consider granting one! (I am preparing to be the best man in a wedding on the 4th anyway, so I will be busy literally every moment until this is due. So some extra time might help all of us).

Edit: How about Friday the 10th? Would that be enough? Or should I go through the weekend too?

So, are any of you still interested in submitting a list? The deadline is technically tonight, but before I close it I wanted to check since there seems to be a quite a few people who showed interest in this one but haven't submitted anything yet!

Edit: Before SHOOTER says anything bitchy, we do have 12 participants. So the numbers are not down THAT much for this album It wouldn't take much for us to get right up to where all the other albums were at!

Please let it be "Love's Gonna Live Here", only song on this album I don't like. Though "Satin Sheets" isn't great either so I'd be okay with that being in last. Hopefully none of the bonus songs are in last because they are all deserving of better than that.

The 3 songs I mentioned to be contendors for #1 and maybe "I Still Miss Someone", and "Let It Be Me". Maybe "Help Me Make It Through The Night"

I'm afraid "Love's Gonna Live Here" will do well. Maybe "Let It Be Me" or "Dreaming My Dreams".

I think that "Rose Garden" has the potential to win so that will place the highest and I do think it'll be at the minimum in the Top 10 and the highest is possibly the #1

Both songs deserve top 10 honestly but "I Still Miss Someone" will easily be lower, maybe barely making the Top 5.

7) What will be the highest-placing album track? Where will it place?

I really think an album track is actually gonna win and I think it is between "'Til I Can Make It On My Own", "Help Me Make It Through The Night" or "You Ain't Woman Enough"

"Let It Be Me" will easily be the highest and it better be in the top 10. "Dreaming My Dreams" should also be there also.
