I don’t think about black in terms of grey Or revelations in the light of day I don’t think about cold in terms of ice Or second chances happening twice.
*chills*
I feel like I am a senior in HS again listening to some of these songs. Love the memories I have associated with so many.

This is such a strong list of singles I'm going to be pulling my hair out trying to rank them. Also Rockie Lynne's album was great, still one of my favorites. And I love his other independent albums. It's a shame he came along so late. And Katrina is amazing, like beyond amazing vocally. I love that woman's vocals so so much and her songwriting on her 3 albums is just great. I hope we get a 4th album one day!

Ok so I don't know if I'm the only one who gets to a certain point in making their list where it starts to hurt to place songs lower than you want but I'm there...and I've only made my bottom 15...

That's how I felt on the CMA Song of the Year rankdown. Looking at this list, it may be the same. It hurts to see songs that I love so much sitting in the 50's and 60's on my list!

Our next highlighted artist is Gary Nichols. Nichols is currently the lead singer of The SteelDrivers -- a Bluegrass band that was formerly headed by Chris Stapleton, before Nichols replaced Chris as lead vocalist in 2010. The 39 year old Alabama native was signed to Mercury Nashville in 2006 and released his debut single, "Unbroken Ground" in May...the song we find in this rankdown. "Unbroken Ground" would go on to peak at #35 on Mediabase in August of 2006 and the label would follow it up with the top 60 peaking single, "I Can't Love You Anymore" in late 2006. After a third single, ("Goin' Fast") was issued, Gary was dropped from the label. "Unbroken Ground" is arguably the least well-known song in this rankdown I'd imagine but just like most songs in the rankdown, it's well worth your time. Keep working on them, y'all!

I liked "I Can't Love You Anymore" a lot more than "Unbroken Ground". Don't remember "Goin' Fast" at all though

I liked "I Can't Love You Anymore" a lot more than "Unbroken Ground". Don't remember "Goin' Fast" at all though "Goin' Fast" might've been a self-release right when Nichols left Mercury looking back. He recorded it on Mercury but it did nothing at radio. I liked "I Can't Love You Anymore" but as a second single, it wasn't the sort of song that was going break him out at radio. I think "Unbroken Ground" was an extremely creative song.

Psst he's not the lead singer for The SteelDrivers anymore. He left recently. His album for Mercury was great! I got to hear it once but I unfortunately don't have it anymore

Next artist highlighted is Megan Mullins! Megan Mullins is a 30-year old singer-songwriter and fiddle player from Indiana. She's only charted twice with "Ain't What It Used To Be" (the song we find in our rankdown) and "Long Past Gone", from 2009. She released two there singles, including her final one, "Tradin' My Halo For Horns." Her debut self-titled album from 2006 went unreleased. She left Stoney Creek Records in 2010. Her debut single was released via the main label, Broken Bow Records. Megan comes from a musical family and she learned to play multiple instruments as a child, including fiddle. Her debut "Ain't What It Used To Be" was written by Mark Nesler and Tony Martin and first recorded by Billy Currington for his self-titled debut album in 2003. Our next highlight is Blaine Larsen! Blaine Larsen is a singer-songwriter from Tacoma, Washington. Larsen grew up singing cover songs as a kid in his home state before his family went to Nashville when he was just a junior in high school, where he recorded a demo CD. Rory Lee Feek (of Joey + Rory) and songwriter/producer Tim Johnson were so impressed by Blaine's demo that they decided to record with him and made his debut CD on their Giantslayer Records in 2004. After Larsen's debut album In My High School received some minor airplay of the title track in stations in Washington, Joe Galante of BMG in Nashville decided to sign Larsen to a record deal (to BNA) where they re-released a new version of his debut album and titled it, Off To Join The World. The first major label single was the moving "How Do You Get That Lonely" in late 2004, when he was just 18 years old. "How Do You Get That Lonely' peaked inside the top 15 at R&R in April of 2005 and the next and last single from the album was "The Best Man", which peaked at #30 on R&R in the summer of 2005. The next single would be the one we find in this rankdown, "I Don't Know What She Said" in February of 2006. It peaked at #21 on Mediabase later that year and the next single off his Rockin' You Tonight album would be the fiddle-heavy "Spoken Like A Man", which only got to #42 on Billboard in early 2007. Larsen would leave BNA in 2008 and Blaine would sign with Treehouse Records, which would soon merge into Stroudavarious Records (started by producer James Stroud). Three more singles would chart before Larsen. The highest was the top 40 peaking, "Chillin'" in 2010. Blaine also released a version of Canadian Country artist Paul Brandt's "Leavin'" and a song that Brad Paisley first recorded, "It Did." Blaine would leave music entirely after 2011. He did come back in 2016 however and released a salute to his home-state called, "Missing The Rain." * I personally think Blaine Larsen is one of the biggest misses in the last 20 years in Country music. His voice was stellar and distinctive. He was young, could write and had the looks. I'm still baffled he couldn't find success. If you haven't heard his other singles, go listen, especially "How Do You Get That Lonely, "The Best Man" and "Spoken Like A Man." Get those lists in!!! Oh man, I just realized that Reba's "You're Gonna Be" got left off :-( Definitely would have been a top 5 contender for me.

Oh my gosh. Listening through some of Blaine Larsen's songs and I really wish he would've broken out. The dude is such a great singer and he really should have been a success.

definitely sad that "You're Gonna Be" wasn't a bigger hit for Reba, I love that song!
and agreed that Blaine Larsen should have broken out, I really like both of his albums.

In terms of the charts I am used to, a song released in September and peaking at #33 would have probably been charting well into the following year! Lmao

Just getting started on this one and hope to have it done before I head back to Nebraska for Christmas. But my favorite song of the year "Not Ready to Make Nice" must've been given a big chunk of coal for 2006 as it didn't make the list
