I'm a flop fan that I didn't know that there was a European music video of "Estoy Aquí". Either way, I'm glad that it made the Top 10, as well as "Tú". Objection is cute and all but Te Aviso, Te Anuncio is the superior version. This. The chorus of "Te Aviso, Te Anuncio" is so addictive.
Regarding my Top 5, is it possible that "Inevitable" or "Ojos Así" make a surprise #1? Either way, I hope "La Tortura" wins this, although I'm expecting "Whenever, Wherever" / "Suerte" or "Hips Don't Lie" to do that. Sigh! Both of them are good, but I prefer if any of the aforementioned three to win this to be honest.

I strongly recommend giving the Dónde Están los Ladrones album a listen. I also became aware of Shakira when "Whenever, Wherever" was released but that album is simply amazing. I'm sad I only discovered it 19 years later. I bought a bootleg copy at a flea market in Mexico when it first came out and after I quickly wore that out I had to spring for a fresh store-bought copy that I still have to this day.

I have been following this rankdown from time to time. I wanted to participate but I was too lazy to listen to her early songs, so I gave up. I know her from Whenever wherever and also do know some earlier songs, but many do not (10 in all) and also I completely do not know her last 2 albums, or 3 (except Sale el Sol)
So, now when this is closing to an end
I will give my top 10 of songs I know (some are not on the list)
1. La Pared 2. No 3. Devocion 4. Loca 5. Hay Amores 6. Te dejo Madrid 7. Antes de las Seis 8. La Tortura 9. Ojos Asi 10. Wherever whenever
yeah, I prefer her Spanish ones
I strongly recommend giving the Dónde Están los Ladrones album a listen. I also became aware of Shakira when "Whenever, Wherever" was released but that album is simply amazing. I'm sad I only discovered it 19 years later. I may very well do that one day. But it is winter now...Shakira just don't work for me during winter. Tori Amos, Jewel, Lana Del Rey are more suitable for winter. :)

Info: "Inevitable" is a Latin rock song co-written and performed by Colombian-born singer Shakira, released as the third single from her 1998 multi-platinum album Dónde Están los Ladrones?.
In addition, an English version was also penned, which then was planned for an English version of ¿Dónde Están los Ladrones?. It is titled "Inevitable (English)", which has been performed at some United States shows such as The Rosie O'Donnell Show and The ALMA Awards, the latter being performed with Melissa Etheridge. However, plans were soon scrapped, and Shakira released Laundry Service instead.

So, so, so, so happy to see all those wonderful rankings for "Inevitable". Its Shakira Rock perfection and I was so, so close to ranking it at #2. I wonder if that would have helped to place it above "Hips Don't Lie"...
At any rate, I'm ecstatic that HDL didn't win considering what the top three is.
Pretty excellent top 3. I would be ok with any of them winning but "La Tortura" would preferable and "Ojos Asi" would be an incredible upset but it doesn't seem likely.
#5, 6 & 7 left.

5. Inevitable (3): this easily became my favorite song from Shakira as soon as I heard it. The mix of tenderness, purity, strength and anger in her delivery is superb. Her vocal inflections just work perfectly. And her rock attitude (including in the top quality video) made this one if not the most rocker song a female pop artist had released (no, I love you Alejandra Guzmán but Shakira beat you right there ). It was so amazing to be a fan at that time. We witnessed a real female super star in Latin America. No gimmick. No prefabricated stuff. Just real talent. Her music showed such a range that it was refreshing. No single sounded alike yet (maybe Ciega had the most similarity with previous single but the ranchera element differentiated it enough). In my personal ranking (and several rankings back home) age had a string of 9 hits, chart toppers or runnerups in a row! And Inevitable was the most badass of em all (becoming once again our Latin version of an Alanis figure). Yay at seeing it top 5 here!! PS: inevitable also has one of Shakira’s most ‘memorable’ lyrics lol: ‘ni me baño los domingos’ (I don’t take a shower on Sundays)

4. Hips don’t lie (5): I wasn’t sure whether to rank it 5 or 6, and in hindsight I should’ve ranked it 6. This one wasn’t immediate to me. I did like it when I first heard it but sort of found the production a bit underwhelming (and even the sync between her and the beat not as precise as I felt it should’ve been), but soon after I got under its spell, and became super proud at its continued and increased success in the charts. It was awesome to see that such a purely Latin song was turning into a Global smash. She made us proud!! It was a key part of the soundtrack of my first year as a grad student in the US (go Orange!), and it was responsible of my finding and joining Pulse!!! As a song, I loved the fusion of course. She had not only reggaeton and pop, but also cumbia (bridge) and of course a sprinkle of salsa -the first notes of the song are immediately recognized by Latinos, as they belong to one of the most famous and beloved salsa songs of the 1990s that everyone back home, rockers included, would know: Jerry Rivera’s “Amores como el nuestro” (video link below). I also liked the Bamboo remix that was used for the World Cup. It gave it an extra flavor that I used a lot back in the 00s. Lots of good memories as well dancing to this song, going to the floor, shaking the hips and more with a smile, in US, China and Peru —it was happily inescapable in the middle of Crunk and other music that was unfamiliar for someone who had just left Latinamerica 😊
