Not even two seconds to reflect on the part where this was good news? Frosty. Regardless of anyone's political views, it does not belong on a thread about the Billboard Hot 100, and is entirely off-topic.

No kidding it's in the wrong place. I'm just saying - take the hope spots when they present themselves because I'm pretty sure this would classify as one in Ray's case.

That would be good news for me for that matter, but I just don't want to think about politics at all. Especially in the place for music-related discussion that distracts me from all this s**t.

In actual Chart news, a peak of 6 for All I Want For Christmas, high or low? Huge. Can you imagine if we saw this on the decade chart lol? It re-enters every Christmas, and probably stays around for 6 weeks, 6x10 = 60 weeks, with a peak of #6 (hypothetically). Too bad it was only allowed to re-enter a couple of years ago. It's never gotten 6 weeks in a run.

Not trying to speed things up but I just realized that Mariah will get 4 weeks on the chart guaranteed but do you guys think it'll chart during the 5th week which includes Christmas and the days after when radio stops playing the song?

The week of Christmas will be: Sales/streaming: December 22-December 28 (4 days on/3 days off) Airplay: December 25-31 (1 day on/6 days off) So its airplay will be very low that week, but the sales and streaming might be just enough to help it hold onto a top 50 position, but it's not guaranteed.

If/when AIWFCIY makes the top ten, it may set a record: has any other song, in a specific recording and not a remake, taken more than 23 years to make the top ten? Most other re-released songs that made the top ten years later (like "Stand By Me", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "The Monster Mash", "Purple Rain") had already been top ten hits. But I can't think of any other song that waited 23 or more years from the time it was first released to the time it first made the top ten. Possibly another record for Mariah!

An actual recording and first appearance in the top 10 - OK Lyrics and recordings by others hitting the top 10 for the first time stretch into the hundreds or thousands of years (Beethoven's fifth for example --- also the Byrds had a big hit in the 60s with lyrics extracted from the Old Testament) As for actual recordings hitting the top 40 for the first time There is Shaving Cream by Benny Bell recorded in 1946 and peaked at #30 in 1975

Waiting for AIWFCIY to hit Top 10 is kind of like the way the Daytime Emmys milked Susan Lucci 'will she win this year' for years to drive ratings. After she won, ratings spiraled... Those MC-holiday related threads will go awfully quiet unless some bizarre (or bad) event happens to sends it to #1, which is pretty unlikely.

I don't know much about Apple Music, but I know that Spotify has several spotlighted Christmas playlists that have All I Want For Christmas Is You near the top of them - that probably boosts the song quite a bit.

Apple Music listeners are not in the Christmas spirit? But what's different about their listeners? They lean extremely urban. Honestly, it's quite surprising just how much Apple Music skews urban compared to YouTube and Spotify. I guess just drastically different demographics?

Run-DMC'S "Christmas in Hollis", Kurtis Blow's "Christmas Rappin'", all the Motown Christmas classics...but those are all decades old and I would imagine have limited to no appeal to Migos fans.

So would the Urban collective of radio formats (excluding Adult R&B) be the one genre least affected by holiday fare? (I imagine Rock is fairly impervious as well…?)
