If the "remix" makes it a materially different song, I won't count Well what determines if it is materially a different song? Where do we draw the line? What do we base it on? Over on Spotify, "Perfect" and "Perfect Duet" chart seperate. But I don't think that was ever the case with Despacito. Adding another singer/rapper or layer of instrumentation to the original recording doesn't make it a different song in Billboard's eyes. For an example of what does, look at the songs that created the remix separation originally: Jennifer Lopez and Ja Rule's "I'm Real" and "Ain't It Funny". Other than the titles and some lyrics, they were completely re-recorded songs with entirely different production and instrumentation from her original solo songs. Billboard initially counted airplay from all versions together but changed their policy because each of the Ja Rule versions were completely different songs from her originals (as opposed to him simply adding a rap section to the original, like Kanye's feature added to what was otherwise the exact same album version of Katy Perry's "E.T."). So it has to be a pretty extreme re-recording for Billboard to separate a remix's points from the original song.

Without any other metrics, you need ~30k. The Total Eclipse of the Heart cover, which had basically nil streaming and wasn't sent to radio, debuted at #99 with 31,000 sales. So by about mid 2018 being #1 in digital sales and having no other metrics you might miss the hot 100 entirely. Yeah, no different than physical singles sales by about 2003.

"Didn't I" hit the Top 10 a couple of weeks after "Cover Girl" did (actually, both songs were Top 10 on the week of 11/11/89).

For the Bocelli version, the melody is the same, and seemingly the lyrics as well, only that part of them are in a different language. I don't think that would qualify it as a different song?

I am amused by LWYMMD's chart/radio run.

For the Bocelli version, the melody is the same, and seemingly the lyrics as well, only that part of them are in a different language. I don't think that would qualify it as a different song? All the versions of Perfect will be included and recognized as one entry on the Hot 100. Artist crediting will be determined on the week. It's not unheard of to have one entry with more than one artist/feature credit - Chris Brown's Loyal comes to mind - East and West Coast versions, different feature sets, one Hot 100 entry with the word "or" separating the feature sets. I guess it's possible that if both the Beyonce and Bocelli versions continue to have significant contributions, this could be another "or" situation. When it comes to different languages, I think the precedent is that it's still the same song as long as the melody and translation are the same or similar enough - and of course by the same lead artist. I believe airplay for Spanish versions of popular songs are counted toward its Hot 100 Airplay stats. If the Spanish song contributes enough of the chart points, it will be listed as an alternate title (or THE title, depending). I suppose the only Hot 100 exception would be due to the label pushing different versions as stand-alone singles - but I don't think that's the case with Perfect. As for Spotify, @sheranelamar, they don't compile/display aggregate charts combining remixes, etc, but the way the data is collected by Nielsen/Billboard the tracks are combined. Same goes for iTunes. Of course, if the remix is deemed a totally different song, then that's another story.

Definitely not a "normal chart-life" scenario, and not even top ten, but I always thought it was bizarre that Madonna chose to release a remix of "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" as a single from her Something to Remember album, considering that song was 12 years old. Another random tidbit, albeit from the same album, is that Rihanna's "Only Girl" hit #1 AFTER that album's second single ("What's My Name") hit #1.

And that was smart on the part of their label because it brought attention to their debut album, which had been a flop, and helped it go multi-platinum. "Didn't I..." went top 10 after several singles from their follow-up album had gone top 10 if I'm not mistaken.

Too bad Vision Of Love (her first top 10?) wasn't released a few months earlier, she would have then have top 10s in the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s! However, three decades is still hugely impressive, especially when her only(?) one in the 2010s is a song from her first decade

Mariah could have achieved the three decades thing with hits in 1989, the 90s, and 2001 and have the same feat she will now, even though that time span would be 15 years shorter. This also makes me more mad that "#Beautiful" wasn't a top 10 hit. It had the buzz and sales to be one.

Why the hell is Motorsport top 10. Can someone tell me whats so good about that song.... Don't you start. The video was released, it's Top 5 on Urban, Top 10 on Rhythmic, Top 30 on iTunes, Top 30 on Spotify, 34 Million Views on the video. Plus, Nicki, Cardi and Takeoff killed thier verses. Also, a rap female collab has hit the Top 10 again!!
