it's definitely a good video so I'll give it that. The fact it was done in one or two shots is just incredible.

This will be controversial but if she ever updated re-released the immaculate collection with only a handful of songs since the original, I would include Bitch I’m Madonna as it was the only thing that made a splash in the whole last decade (2010-2020).
1. Holiday 2. Lucky Star 3. Borderline 4. Like a Virgin 5. Material Girl 6. Crazy for You 7. Into the Groove 8. Live to Tell 9. Papa Don't Preach 10. Open Your Heart 11. La Isla Bonita 12. Like a Prayer 13. Express Yourself 14. Cherish 15. Vogue 16. Justify My Love 17. Erotic 18. Take A Bow 19. Ray Of Light 20. Music 21. Hung Up 22. 4 Minutes (ft. Justin Timberlake) 23. Bitch I’m Madonna (ft. Nicki Minaj)

She had the promotion for Rebel Heart, with the right songs I’m not sure why shouldn’t have a ROL sized era? Maybe her best shot would’ve been in 2012 if the album was totally amazing and she dropped a surprise visual album of MDNA on the same night as her SuperBowl halftime show. I think Madonna’s biggest weakness is how she seemingly insists on trying to appeal to younger audiences by capitalizing on current trends, which to me seems done at the expense of her longtime fans. That isn’t to say she should only be making music for people 55+ up or limiting herself to ballads, but her way of chasing trends over the last 15 years hasn’t really worked out the best for her. There’s a reason why Confessions was such a huge album because it seemed to exist in its own universe. I think Madame X did too, to an extent, but it still had some filler and as a whole wasn’t as easy to digest. Madonna clearly has longtime fans so she has an audience already there for her. She doesn’t need hits but she can make a substantial add to her discography if she stopped trying to win over new fans and made a record for those who are still with her, or even those who used to be with her, and dropped the ego to let the music talk. Most likely it would be with a dance-focused pop album. (And yes, I know she’s allowed to make music for her and make music she wants because she’s Madonna and yadda yadda. The question was around whether she could have a big era again and this is how I think she could work toward that.)

Sorry, t, but BIM has no business with those other hits. Heck, for as big as it was, even "4 Minutes" sticks out, though at least it was a big hit across the board. BIM's strength was the video- without all the cameos, would it have been as successful as it wasin that regard? Arguably not.

I hear you. The immaculate collection can only be the best of the best. But if it ends at Hung Up then it doesn’t paint an accurate picture of her longevity. I guess 4 minutes stretches it to 2008. But BIM was the only “pop culture” moment slash “hit” in the decade that followed so yes quality a little lower but not that far of a stretch to include it imo
Ps. I think the initial views of the BIM video were the cameos but I don’t believe people are still watching to get a few clips of Kanye or Beyonce. And views continue to increase to this day! People like the video/song. Someone is listening out there!

I’d rather an updated Celebration tbh. The Immaculate Collection covers her in the 80s and for some, that’s when she was in her prime. To extend that specific collection (and the ‘brand’ it has created) I don’t think would work. There’s a reason GHV2 wasn’t branded “The Immaculate Collection 2” or “Celebration” wasn’t a part 3.
I’d even say wait until 2023 and package her 40 biggest/best known/most beloved singles, tracks and songs into one collector’s item and release that as part of a 40 years of Madonna era. Even narrowing down to 40 would be tough but it would be a good opportunity to include her 2010’s singles, which I think are worthy of a mention on an expansive collection such as that.

Super Bowl performance, top 10 on the hot 100, half a million in sales for the single and album. The song wasn’t great but was more successful than BIM even if it failed to have longevity

I agree, I think it's silly to say the cameos are still driving the views for BIM. Most people seeing the video for the first time have no idea those celebrities are even in it.

Also it’s not the Minaj effect as she’s in give me all your luvin video/song but BIM has 4x the amount of views. I really think BIM was a hit in a different kinda way, a way the 80’s fans will never understand. The video/song is clearly being played at parties and stuff.

it's a good video, that's why. Near her Top 10 even.
as for updating TIC, you forgot Frozen, and that streams more than Ray of Light. Frozen is a way more important piece of work to include in a "best of" collection than Ray of Light. Not by much cuz they are both huge, but Frozen has to be the chosen one.

The BIM video is fun and contemporary, and I can see why it would get more streams/views than the two singles that preceded it. RE the cameos, I only meant that that probably drove a lot of views when it was first released.
I agree that GMAYL, even as a fleeting Super Bowl souvenir, would warrant inclusion on a Madonna compilation, if stretching to the 2010s.

www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/hollywood-flashback-mary-lambert-reflects-on-directing-madonnas-controversial-like-a-prayer-music-videoHollywood Flashback: Mary Lambert Reflects on Directing Madonna's Controversial "Like a Prayer" Music Video12:30 PM PDT 4/8/2021 by Seth Abramovitch The pop star's 1989 video, which was banned by the Vatican, featured the singer dancing in front of burning crosses, experiencing stigmata and kissing a statue of a Black Jesus who comes to life in a church. Lil Nas X's video for "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)" — with its glistening pole to hell and sexy satanic lap dance — has reignited the culture wars in ways not seen since the 1980s. Back then, Madonna's video for "Like a Prayer" was the controversy to beat. It featured the singer, then 30, dancing in front of burning crosses, experiencing stigmata and kissing a statue of a Black Jesus who comes to life in a church. (The "Saint," as he was described in the script to appease production executives, was portrayed by actor Leon, who also plays a young man wrongly accused of a crime in the piece.) The video debuted on MTV on Feb. 23, 1989 and was the fifth that Mary Lambert had conceived and directed for the pop star. "I wanted to explore the correlation between sexual ecstasy and religious ecstasy," Lambert, 69, tells THR, adding that "the idea of a Black Jesus was scary to a lot of people." That character "came from Madonna telling me she wanted to 'fuck a Black guy on the altar,'" Lambert recalls. "I said, 'Well, why not have it be a Black Jesus? Let's just go all the way.' She liked that." The burning crosses evoked "the idea of appropriation," Lambert continues, "that the Ku Klux Klan could take a cross, which is a holy symbol to a lot of people, and appropriate it in a way to instill fear and horror and promote race hatred. I wanted to turn that on its head." The backlash to the video was intense: The Vatican banned it, and Pope John Paul II encouraged fans to boycott Madonna in Italy. "I don't remember anybody standing up for it," she says. "Except the general public." A far tamer Pepsi commercial set to the song (and made for four times the budget) was yanked fast. "I was very proud of that," Lambert says. As for Lil Nas X's effort, Lambert is impressed, calling it "an amazing visual poem — a sort of folktale about fucking the devil, basically." This story first appeared in the April 7 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine

So, that's a separate certification, and not the original being upgraded?
