Yes it gets her Spotify monthly listenership up and likely another Top 10 hit but this really feels like an empty victory.
She didn’t write it.
She didn’t produce it.
She doesn’t sing lead on it.
In other words, this is not a Madonna song.
I think we all know the Weeknd is the one generating hits and massive streams these days and Madonna is lucky to be invited along for the ride this time.

Enjoy the music. I think the Weeknd is really lucky to have a legend on their track and it shows how much he appreciates M and who is she and what her legacy is. And it is a great way for people to discover her music. Very happy for her. |

Drake and Nicki Minaj and a host of other artists have been features and not leads on countless songs. It all gets added to their Hot 100 total. I think we may be overthinking this as Madonna has rarely been a featured artist (or duet partner). Every single one of her #1 songs has been a solo affair and all but 1 of her Top 10 hits has had another artist on it (4 Minutes or two if you count Take a Bow) |

It's just lame cause its Madonna, so let's try and diminish her achievement regardless of what it is.
And the people who throw low key shade, Madonna sounds good but this person would have been better on it. The genius and the expert that is the Weeknd, could have chosen any female to sing with him on this song and he picked M, because he knew she was the best fit for it.
It is quite sad, that we cannot enjoy female popstars accomplishments and people have the need to try and drag them down.

Meanwhile elsewhere people are excited for a Madonna comeback and are giving both the singles high praises. I really like the new song and I am not one for having her rest on and regurgitate the old hits. My comment about Vogue and Frozen a few posts up was that relying on the old stuff and making new remixes is not going to really work for her. Those songs have already oversaturated pop culture and it would be hard to find new fans of those songs or people hearing for the first time. She is at a point where it is hard to imagine a pop landscape that does not include her in some way. She never really went away and people never stopped talking about her completely. Think of an Elvis or Beatles, where they either died or disbanded. People are aware of them because their music was / is part of the fabric of music history, but no real new music was created. Just re-packaging, re-releases, etc. With Madonna she continues to make new music and gives the fans something chew on. Whether folks like it or not, she still remains someone who impacts the conversation. I like that. |

queen! Hardly any pop stars, if at all, we’re doing avant-garde s**t at the time. IIRC. (edit: can’t forget Bjork) As for the new song — I haven’t liked a lot of Madonna’s music post “Celebration” (and I stannnnnned until then), but I think she sounds pretty good on this. And the track is quality, so I am, also, happy for her. |

The Weeknd is the lucky one to have Madonna feature on his track and he has said this many times. Plus the song is really good, if it gives M a charting hit in 2023, who can complain?
Instead of trying to diminish Madonna, people should focus on their fave's career (or what's left of it) :kii:

one of my favourite looks & videos of all time. Madonna bulldozed doors and ceilings allowing other artists to walk, sway, and fly through those same doors and ceilings. And yes, for anyone to have Madonna featured on something of theirs, they’ve truly been blessed by the Queen of Pop herself. She holds the title for eternity. I feel like it’s easy to forget or discredit her, so people easily throw shade, but Madonna set trends for decades, and was truly in her own lane, and still is, even if not to the same extent as before. But that doesn’t change or erase her iconic legacy. |

Wouldn't trade the releases of "Bedtime Story" and "Human Nature" for safer material that would have had higher Hot 100 placements.At the time, given M's track record, the numbers were disappointing, but also just another example of what set her apart from the pop pack.
I think that 14M+ figure for Spotify includes unfiltered streams, given the dail numbers Spotify Charts reports are less.

I was surprised at them flipping to be honest. I didn’t think they were gonna smash, but maybe reach top 20. The videos were superb. Prefer them over Secret and TaB. And I think these 4 songs were among the 5 strongest songs in the album. The only other one I’d add is Inside of Me, which I’ve always loved, was played in our AC radio, and was a top 10 in my personal chart :)
