I wish she'd do November and try for Black Friday sales. Her target demographic is more likely to be out shoppin' or online shoppin' then. Bundle it with a 2019 tour and people will be set for holiday presents. There are no big Black Friday sales anymore. Rebel Heart came out 3 years ago on March 10. I think it's eligible for Gold album cert. with the RIAA.

Madonna to Direct Ballerina Drama ‘Taking Flight’This is probably the best of all scenarios for her...she did not write the script, she is not acting in it, and it is a subject she knows well. The woman is my idol, but her screenplays have been not very good and she has very few acting successes.

I did see Filth and Wisdom and I thought it was a total mess. It was all over the place. I think she did the best with what she had to work with. There were lots of funny moments but it just didn't work. I did like W.E. though. I can see why it didn't get well-received. I like period films and arty films when done right so that was up my alley. The story of Michaela DePrince is incredibly riveting and inspirational so it could make for a good movie treatment.

This is bad news, imo, as this creates a distraction in her head. It might even put the album on “rush mode” and no one wants that.
Hopefully this is far into the distance to make any effect.

I thought the same thing. We don't want an MDNA situation. However, it does not say when filming would begin. Often times these things are announced well in advance.

if she's still planning on touring this year, I'm assuming it would begin filming after.

The Andrew Lloyd Weber "Unmasked: Platinum Collection" came out today. First of all, a theater freak like myself loves it. I used to work in Broadway marketing and did a ton of theater as a kid / HS / college student, so I am in heaven.
Madonna is represented in her version of "Another Suitcase in Another Hall."
Evita is further represented by:
Oh What a Circus - Antonio Banderas / Madonna You Must Love Me - Lana Del Rey Don't Cry for Me Argentina - Julie Covington (original Eva Peron on the "Evita" studio concept album) Buenos Aires - Glee Cast (forgot that they had done this song on an episode) Rainbow High - Elaine Page (original London Eva Peron) I'd Be Surprisingly Good For You - Elena Rodger (Evita revival on Broadway a few years ago. I saw it and it was just ok. It also starred Ricky Martin who was mediocre)

After all the venom she’s spat at M, it’s interesting that none of her Evita vocals were selected for this album.

After all the venom she’s spat at M, it’s interesting that none of her Evita vocals were selected for this album. That would be correct. She has given interviews where she has insulted Andrew Lloyd Weber and his talent. Even in the last major Webber box set, "Now and Forever" which is even more exhaustive that this collection, she is only represented by one song, "High Flying Adored" which is a duet with Mandy Patinkin. They tend to go with the Elaine Page version of Evita more often. I actually don't like Lupone's performance as Evita...she screeched and yelled out the entire show. I saw her do a run on Broadway with Mandy Patinkin a few years ago. It was a night of them performing Broadway standards...some they originated others they did not. Reception to her was very tepid and reception to Mandy was through the roof. From an article I read: In an interview in 2011, LuPone commented, "He writes crap music... Evita was his best score, Evita in its bizarreness - when I first heard it I thought 'I swear to God, he hated women' [...] There are some very romantic moments in his music, and there is some real...trash that he doesn't even think about parting with. He's not a very good editor of his own stuff."

A really well done look at Madonna's singles / videography. Because I am stickler about what were singles / videos, my only anal retentive quibbles for this compilation is: -Omitted Angel, Causing a Commotion, and Rescue Me. I think it is probably because there were no official videos made. Although her record label did release videos that were compilations of past clips for these. In the case of Causing a Commotion they used the cartoon clips from Who's That Girl. -Left out the video for Gambler. Was not a single in the U.S., but was elsewhere in the world. MTV in the U.S. played the video quite often. -Used a live performance of True Blue as opposed to the official video. -Used a random performance clip of Hanky Panky as opposed to the one issued by her label. -Used archive footage of Eva Peron for "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" as opposed to the actual video -Included "I Don't Give A..." which I don't think was a single anywhere in the world. I know, I sound like a persnickety jackass critiquing this. It is actually a great compilation.

I don’t think you sound like a jackass... more like a fan or stan :-) And I agree with all your points. There was no reason to omit Angel, CAC, RM, Gambler, especially when random footage of Evita is replacing the DCFMA video (lmao), and IDGA is included despite not being a single (although, I liked that he included it because I didn’t know of its existence!!! Lol) By the way, this is the video fore CAC that was in rotation back home: youtu.be/AJWIXC2YhMQThere were other important omissions, too: - Dear Jessie (a cartoon video was produced for this song and it accompanied the single release in Europe) - Keep it together (no video, but another top 10 in the US) - I’ll remember (a video exists and this was a big hit, wtf?) - You must love me (an actual video with M singing at a piano plus movie footage was released alongside this top 20 hit) - Another suitcase, another hall (a video with movie images accompanied the international release of this hit-top 5 in UK) - Nothing fails was a single, regardless of its unfortunate floppage and lack of video - Masterpiece (also received a video released alongside promo for W.E.) If I’m even pickier lol, I’d also criticize: - Me against the music is by Britney Spears feat. Madonna (not Madonna and Britney Spears) - American life video should’ve been the original masterpiece -not that horrid censored lversion! - Veras could’ve been added, as it was a video released in Latin markets with footage of M recording the song in Spanish - Sidewalk Talk (M was uncredited but a great part of this song’s success) - the look of love also had a promotional video with footage from movie (as this was a UK single)

“I’ll Remember” made me a stan. I remember being in the car with my parents listening to Casey Kasum’s American Top 40 and I’ll Remember jumped from #17-11, and I thought “Madonna has had a lot of hits, I’m going to follow her.”
And that’s right when CD’s came out and the first two cd’s I bought were The Immaculate Collection and The Sign.
And the rest is history.

^ I felt the exact same way but ‘Live to Tell’ was the song that hooked me. Her new singles would be total events to me after that.

I'm 48 and I have been listening since junior high. I was hooked from the song "Physical Attraction." My brother had the the 12" single of the Double A-Side of Burning Up / Physical Attraction. I was like who is this woman? I loved the groove of that song so much, still do.

Growing up my sister was a huge fan and owned True Blue on cassette so as a child that was my first introduction to her. “Papa Don’t Preach” is my earliest memory of her music. When I came of age and started buying music it was “Rain” that made me a stan. I will forever love this woman.

I’m 42 and I paid a lot of attention with Like a Virgin, a huge hit back home, which my brother (less into pop) liked as well. However, I wasn’t a big fan yet. I had heard and disliked Everybody, heard but not cared much about Holiday, heard and liked Lucky Star, and heard and liked Borderline a bit more. But none of them were super favorites... at that point I was already a fan of Sheena Easton, Donna Summer, Pat Benatar, Olivia Newton John. And, most importantly, I was a stan of Cyndi Lauper. Like she was the first new artist that I really dug. The first 4 She’s so unusual singles topped my personal chart for multiple weeks and were yearend top 15s. Like a Virgin was Madonna’s first personal chart topper. Then there was this avalanche of good singles, including Material girl, Into the groove, and Dress you up -all personal chart toppers as well. At that point, I had Cyndi and Madonna at a tie. With Live to Tell and Papa don’t preach, M passed Cyndi. True Blue was the first non-compilation cassette (and second overall) that I ever bought, after hearing the first 3 singles. The PDP video and her dancing scenes were pivotal moments for me at that moment I got my stan Card

Watching those videos made me remember which videos she used body doubles. I believe, I'll remember, frozen, die another day And the power of good bye. Can't think of any others.

I got into popular music during the Music album era and "Don't Tell Me" slayed my life. I bought GHV2 with gift money and then got The Immaculate Collection cassette from my aunt before going back and slowly listened to her past albums in non-chronological order.
Needless to say "Die Another Day" was amazing to experience as a new fan and the American Life disappointment made me sad. However, it was good experience living through Confessions... as a rebirth and the successes of "4 Minutes," "Celebration," and (though I dislike it) GIMMIE ALL UR LUVIN'
Order in which I listened to her albums: Music GHV2 The Immaculate Collection Ray of Light Like a Virgin Madonna True Blue Erotica Something to Remember Like a Prayer I'm Breathless American Life EVITA Bedtime Stories Confessions Hard Candy Who's That Girl? MDNA

Die Another Day is my favorite Madonna song. It's still so fresh and ahead of its time. IMO, that was her "cutting edge" peak.

Came across this gorgeous picture of Madonna. It is from a December article about her brother Anthony's completion of rehab. I believe it is within the past year, as the background black and white photo looks like it may be from the MDNA Skin promo shots. Attachment Deleted

Couple random questions out of curiosity:
1. Why is Madonna doing so poorly on streaming? I looked at her numbers compared to MJ, Prince, Whitney, George Michael... and I feel she should be doing a lot better. Was she late to put her stuff on there?
2. Has Madonna ever talked about Cyndi Lauper (praise, shade, anything)?
Thanks!

2. Has Madonna ever talked about Cyndi Lauper (praise, shade, anything)? I've never seen or read anything with Madonna mentioning Cyndi. I know Cyndi has commented on the "rivalry" the media and record labels tried to manufacture between them in the 80s and how she never bought into it and never had anything against Madonna.

The Ray Of Light era and watching her Behind The Music story won me over as a Madonna fan.

Cyndi Lauper is very much alive and kicking ass thanks to Kinky Boots. As for Mariah...well...you don't wanna go there, particularly in this thread. Right, Coco Unbridled?

I guess Mariah is a tricky subject in this thread but I figured both are legends at this point and the battle should be over. I think most would agree Madonna has the more storied catalog, which is why it's shocking that her streams are low. I thought maybe she was late to put it on that platform or soemthing.

I think most would agree Madonna has the more storied catalog, which is why it's shocking that her streams are low. I thought maybe she was late to put it on that platform or soemthing. When looking at the streaming numbers, for Madonna I think some of it could be attributed to the multiple versions that exist. I picked Holiday as an example. Holiday - Madonna (Reissue) - 7,314,619 Holiday - Immaculate Collection - 2,419,244 Holiday - Celebration - 18,514,706 Holiday - I'm Going To Tell You A Secret - 317,776 Holiday - You Can Dance - 401,715 Holiday - Rebel Heart Tour - 214,279 That totals to 29,182,339. One could also argue that what people are interested in varies. I'm more partial to Madonna's later catalog than her earlier hits, so I contribute more to Ray of Light, Music, American Life, etc. Varied interest fragments streaming numbers on top of the different versions.
