I keep checking every reveal to see whether it's Glove's #100 which it appears is still not out. Glove Slap and mrmike855 are the only two who have their No. 100 still left in the rankdown...

It'd reveal what it is, but it's enough.

Very good batch for me. None of my remaining top 20 got eliminated! The only two left in my bottom half are by the same artist and I expect one of them will be top 10 or even top 5.

For some reason, I was worried that Glove's #100 would be my #1. Boy, was I off. I mean, I told you guys that my #1 wouldn't do nearly as well as my #1 in 1984. I expected it to go out in the previous set, to be honest, so it exceeded my expectations. If anything, I'm more surprised that Bruce has already been cleared out, while Bryan Adams has TWO songs still alive. (I mean, one of them being in still is fine, but the other one...)

SO69 is probably THE Bryan Adams song that even people who can't stand him otherwise don't have a problem with, so I'm not surprised its still in, and if Foreigner and REO Speedwagon got as high as they did, Heaven being top 30 isn't that much of a surprise as it would have been had they been revealed earlier.

Oh, I'm not surprised that either Bryan Adams song is still in. I guess it's just more that I'm shocked Springsteen is out of this rankdown entirely, this early, and Bryan Adams was an easy scapegoat. :kii:

40. Run To You (49): A solid rock song by Bryan. A personal top 15 that I've appreciated more with more time. 39. Solid (65): I didn't care too much about it back in '85. A personal top 20 with little longevity, that I ended up liking more with time. 38. All Through the Night (8): :'( This was Cyndi's 4th consecutive personal chart-topper and in my top 10 of 1985. It's still one of those songs that often transports me to another place and time, and invites me to close my eyes and daydream. The last minute or so is particularly dreamy and ethereal. I really like her vocals, as well as Jules' background vocals. VERY sad to see another top 10 gone :( 37. Part-Time Lover (27): A big hit back home and in my personal chart. Great vocals as always, and just a strong pop melody and structure. Its 12" version was also quite popular. 36. Glory Days (44): A personal top 10 and Bruce's third biggest hit off BITU in my personal chart and back home. Good to see it in the top 40. 35. We Don't Need Another Hero (22): >:( How come this is first Tina's song to leave?! This was Tina's second personal chart-topper, following What's Love... I loved the whole epicness from the somber, mysterious intro (I felt Adele's Water Under the Bridge had a similar intro vibe), to the powerful chorus, background vocals, children choir, final ad-libs. My favorite Tina song this year. 34. You Belong To The City (26): At least this made the top 40! Although it should've been higher. Love the saxophone and overall vibe. It's PERFECT for a night highway drive. I've played this for many many minutes on inter-state drives, with the windows down and singing on the top of my lungs :) A personal chart-topper as well and my favorite Don Henley song ever. 33. Easy Lover (20): Another top 20 gone too soon :( Love the pop vibe with rocker drum and guitar sounds and R&B vocals. Great combo! One of my favorite Phil Collins' songs. A big hit with longevity back home, and a personal chart-topper as well. 32. Better Be Good To Me (93): This song peaked at #6 in my personal chart, but had short longevity. I did like the rock elements, but that's pretty much it I don't think it's a strong song with good melodies. It actually still feels messy. I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt for this RD but nope it was clearly bottom 10. I don't know what Pulse is smoking to have this in the top 3rd of such a strong year like 1985 though In any case, HAPPY to FINALLY have my bottom 20 cleared out. I just need 4 more songs with diva vocals to leave the RD soon to clear my bottom half. 31. Some Like It Hot (30): Almost perfect ranking!! Loved this song from the first time I heard it. It sounded almost experimental, with the percussion and brass sounds. It was a personal top 2 and a song that has remained a good representative of the eclectics of the 1980s (along with songs like One Night in Bangkok and Rock Me Amadeus).

#40. Run To You - Bryan Adams (DOC #3)This is my biggest loss tonight. As I mentioned before anything Bryan Adams is Fiercely Immaculate to me. This was also a huge top 3 song on my charts. #39. Solid - Ashford & SimpsonI wasn't a fan of this back then. For me R&B needed more punch and sex. #38. All Through The Night - Cyndi LauperCyndi Lauper was o.k.. I was too much into Madonna to let another woman take her place. I did give this song some top 40 action. #37. Part-Time Lover - Stevie Wonder This is one of those songs I never liked. Now a days it sounds passable I guess? #36. Glory Days - Bruce Springsteen (DOC #3)This is my favorite Bruce Springsteen song ever. Hooked me from the very first guitar strums. I also like the reminiscent lyrics. I put it at #20 on my own personal year end list. #35. We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome) - Tina TurnerThis one never did much for me. In fact ; My favorite Tina Turner song , is the one she sings with Bryan Adams. "It's Only Love", which I will bring back when we cover 1986. #34. You Belong To The City - Glenn FreyI appreciate this song a lot more now a days. Especially the sax, but back then I only gave it a #32 peak. #33. Easy Lover - Philip Bailey & Phil CollinsThis is another song that never really could hook me in. As far as duets ,that I like go; I can count them on on hand. They just not really my groove. #32. Better Be Good To Me - Tina TurnerI always liked the rock vibe this song had. I think it fit Tina stronger that the Adult R&B vibe ballads. #31. Some Like It Hot - The Power Station ( DOC #6)This one was always a great listen. I also peaked it at the same slot as Billboard. #6. Which ranked it at #51 on my year end list for 1985.

Most of these have already shown up on this rankdown. Only a few that we won't run into here, made my actual list. 40. Hello Again - The Cars (BB #20) (DOC #2)This one peaked at #20 on Billboard in 1984, but it went all the way to #2 on my chart, so it naturally crossed into my 1985 charts. Here it is starting off my top 40 of the year. look for Andy Warhol in the music video. 39. Be Near Me - ABC38. ? 37. ? 36. Sugar Walls - Sheena Easton (BB #9) (DOC #4)Here is where I ranked this sexy pop classic. This song oozed of that classic Prince vibe. 35. Call To Your Heart - Giuffria (BB #15) (DOC #4)Giuffria was an AOR band much in the style of Survivor, Journey, Asia and Night Ranger. They excelled in big arena power ballads and this was their biggest hit on Billboard. This was another scorcher that crossed into my 1985 charts. 34. Erotic City - Prince (DOC #4)I just kept on charting songs by Prince. Even this b-side of "Let's Go Crazy" zoomed onto my weekly charts. I hope you all know it, because Warner Bros; obviously doesn't want you to see it. BTW, a little trivia. Seems this song was the first one featuring Sheila E. vocals. 33. In My Dreams - Dokken (BB #77) (DOC #4) Billboard wasn;t too freindly to this Glam Metal band. Thier highest peak on Hot 100 was #64 for the Ballad "Alone Gain". On my weekly charts, it was another story completely. Ever since I heard "Breaking' The Chains"; I was hooked to the hard cranking guitars and powerful vocals of Don Dokken(no relation to john Hinder) 32. High One You - Survivor (BB #8) (DOC #3)A great AOR band we ran into earlier. This was the first single off "Vital Signs". It easily cruised into my top 3 of 1985. 31. Run To You - Bryan Adams (DOC #3)Here is where Bryan ranked this rocker.

The song is straight garbage, and it's a shame that somehow it's managed to endure as a signature song for someone with George Michael's catalog. I was somewhat wrong about Az Paynter, I thought he'd have it higher because he was the highest ranker in the George Michael rankdown for it.

Okay now I see it. But I also don't know what's so bad about this song that it warrants a #100. :sip2:
EDIT: re #30 placement song selection was also a thing. Much bigger mix of songs, so more options to find things I liked more.

Oh no Private Dancer and Heaven... Heaven was the first #1 song in my personal chart back in 1985. well at least my Top 3 still survives.
Also, the 3 Tears for Fears songs still in, which is great.

Outside of the track with George Michael, I'm not that big on 80s Aretha, but I did like the chapter in Clive Davis' book where he mentioned that his approach to her during this period was acceptance that her 60s material was titanic in structure and there was no way of surpassing or replicating it, instead choosing to present her in a respectful and contemporary manner.
