Whoa. I mean, "Heaven" is finally gone, but I expected "Summer" to make the top 20. I did not expect them to go out in the course of three reveals. This update was mostly about songs that I forgot were still in. I had no idea that the Howard Jones song and "Strut" were still in. And I'm totally endearing myself to the rankdown populace with my rankings on those songs, I'm sure. 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 12 | 13 | 15 | 16 | 18 | 19 | 20 | 25 32 | 34 55 Only one song below my top 35 (let alone top 50), and it's a song that I like. I'm shocked that I have this many top 20 songs still alive. I thought I might have ten or so, but more than 3/4 of the rankdown top 20 is in my top 20. That's crazy.

For real, the "Material Girl" elimination makes no sense to me. I always thought it was considered god tier among Madonna's hits (along with "Like a Virgin" and "Like a Prayer"). I thought for sure it would be top 10, not out before "Dress You Up" (even though I support DYU still being in).

The remaining songs are really good. I still have some great ones here, but let's be honest, this group all but eliminated guitar rock before the actual top 20. 8D this is an issue I have with today's music listeners in general. WTF? I'm just glad I'm an 80's kid and was enjoying the 80's when guitar was the instrument of choice. Anyway, by my count, The only guitar rock song left is ,"Money For Nothing". Huey Lewis, to a extent ,can also qualify, but I have not forgiven anyone for the unfair treatment they got in the 1984 list we did. Man you guys live for rewriting pop music history. :kii:

30. Heaven (10): :'( One of the quintessential 1980s ballads (which also led to a huge dance hit in another decade). A personal and country #1 that went to become one of the biggest hits of the decade. Not surprised that yet another rock ballad is ranked outside the top 20 29. Private Dancer (61): This song wasn't heard that year back home, so it missed making my personal chart, but when I heard it years later I really liked it. It still sounds pretty good now. I do like Hero a bit more, but I think I under-ranked this one in my RD. 28. Summer of 69 (3): :'( :'( Even though this was 'only' a personal top 10 back in the day, it was primarily because it was a very minor 1985 hit. However, back in 1990, in the period where the decade charts were discussed, this became a very popular song, and it turned into one of my favorite 1980s songs as well. (Years later, this also became my go-to karaoke song ). From the epic intro to the pre-chorus/chorus nostalgic sound, to the epic bridge. This deserved top 15 here >:( 27. Saving All My Love For You (76): FINALLY GONE!! Lol. This one was only a personal top 25. She sounds great, but this is a type of ballad a simply dislike. 26. A View To A Kill (18): Oh well, at least this one made the top 30. Another epic song by DD, and one of the best Bond themes ever. A personal and country chart-topper and one of the biggest songs of the year. 25. Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go (28): This one was a big, happy song in that day, and I remember my mom LOVING it and having it as her favorite song of the year. Big personal and country chart-topper. Among the happy songs (e.g. Walking on Sunshine, Heat is On, Neutron Dance, Part-time Lover), this has remained my favorite, but still not top 25 of the year material for me. 24. Things Can Only Get Better (38): A personal and country #1, although with not as much longevity after 1985. Like the intro, the big choir sound, and the more subtle chorus with a delightful falsetto. Good song, just that I liked others a bit more. 23. Freeway of Love (53): A personal top 20 and similarly mid-size hit in a couple of radio stations back home. With time I've grown to like it a bit more than in 1985, and appreciate the varied instrumentation. With this one gone, I only need 1 song to finally have my bottom half gone! 22. Strut (35): This was Sheena's last personal chart-topper and overall her last big hit back home. A song that has never gotten old to me. I LOVE the percussion going on throughout the song, as well as brass and all instrumentation, plus Sheena's effective sensual vocals. VERY happy to see this in the top 25 :) 21. Material Girl (46): Good to see this one out after Angel :) It IS a good song that was hugely popular. A personal and country chart-topper (although the radio edit was NOT as slow as the versions we've heard in the compilations), but compared with other M songs, this is just not as good as others in her catalogue. Her tone is a bit too high here, as opposed to Dress You Up or Crazy for You. It's fun and I wouldn't stop it if I hear it, and it brings back good memories (my mom did like this song much better than LAV).

These last ten are the ones that just missed my top 40 of 1985. Everything form Poprock, to Freestyle, Glam Metal and good ol' fashion Rock 'n Roll. 50. Wonder If I'd Take You Home - Lisa Lisa & The Cult Jam (BB #34) (DOC #4)This song is a jam. I remember first hearing when my dad took me along with him to his job. The girls in the office were jamming to it. One of the first songs that got me into Freestyle. 49. And We Danced - The Hooters (BB #21) (DOC #5)I didn't even know the word "hooters" had a double meaning back then. ;) All I know that this was a damn catchy song. I would have loved for it to be in Billboard's Top 100 of 1985. 47. Summertime Girls - Y&T (BB #55) (DOC #4)We are up to one of my favorite party rock songs of 1985. Y&T were known for their Heavy Metal songs like "Mean Streak" and "Don't Stop Running". This Van Halen; sounding wonder ,became their biggest charting hit on the Hot 100. This song got an easy ride into my top 5. Especially with a delicious MV like that. BTW, you can hear the Van Halen "Jump" influence all over the melody. 45. I'm Going Down - Bruce Springsteen (BB #9) (DOC #5)Here is one that just missed the Billboard top 100 of 1985. Don't know why, since it's such a bop of a classic. Too bad it never got a proper Music Video. 44. Somebody - Bryan Adams (BB #13) (DOC #4)The Canandians have always captured my heard with thier brand of Rock. This song, is just one more reason ,Bryan Adams is one of my favorite artists of all time. I gave every single from "Reckless" top 10 action. 42. Don't Come Around Here No More - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (BB #13) (DOC #4)Another great song, Billboard gave #13 peak to. I remember this video was one of the most played on MTV. It deserves a classic MTV award. R.I.P. Tom Petty, for one of the best rockers in music history. One of a kind vocals too. 40. Hello Again - The Cars (BB #20) (DOC #2)This one peaked at #20 on Billboard in 1984, but it went all the way to #2 on my chart, so it naturally crossed into my 1985 charts. Here it is starting off my top 40 of the year. look for Andy Warhol in the music video. 35. Call To Your Heart - Giuffria(BB #15) (DOC #4)Giuffria was an AOR band much in the style of Survivor, Journey, Asia and Night Ranger. They excelled in big arena power ballads and this was their biggest hit on Billboard. This was another scorcher that crossed into my 1985 charts. 34. Erotic City - Prince (DOC #4)I just kept on charting songs by Prince. Even this b-side of "Let's Go Crazy" zoomed onto my weekly charts. I hope you all know it, because Warner Bros; obviously doesn't want you to see it. BTW, a little trivia. Seems this song was the first one featuring Sheila E. vocals. 33. In My Dreams - Dokken (BB #77) (DOC #4) Billboard wasn;t too freindly to this Glam Metal band. Thier highest peak on Hot 100 was #64 for the Ballad "Alone Gain". On my weekly charts, it was another story completely. Ever since I heard "Breaking' The Chains"; I was hooked to the hard cranking guitars and powerful vocals of Don Dokken(no relation to john Hinder) 32. High One You - Survivor (BB #8) (DOC #3)A great AOR band we ran into earlier. This was the first single off "Vital Signs". It easily cruised into my top 3 of 1985. Songs that entered my personal chart: - I'm Going Down: This was Bruce's second personal (and country) chart-topper off BITUSA. I've always loved this one, and I still consider it a highlight (despite the slight repetitiveness of the chorus). - Hello Again: This song became popular thanks to a TV commercial that used the instrumental intro. It reached the runner-up spot in my personal chart in 1984. - And We Danced: A personal and country minor hit (below top 20), that nonetheless became more liked and popular with time. Good pop-rock representative of the 1980s (ad better than Day By Day). - High On You: THIS was the Survivor hit of the year back home (rather than the 2 tracks in the BB Hot 100), a personal and country top 5. I heard Tom Petty's song only in the 1990s. Cool one. Thanks for sharing Lisa Lisa's, too. I hadn't heard it, and I liked it :)

#30. Heaven - Bryan Adams (DOC #11) He just can't get a break with this crowd. For me one of the ultimate 80's Power ballads. This was a huge #1 on my charts. I ranked it exactly were I did on this list.
#29. Private Dancer - Tina Turner I have to say Billboard sacrificed a few other great 1985 song for just a bit too much Tina Turner. I guess they figured, they would send her off with one huge 80's album. I did like this one enough for top 30 action tho.
#28. Summer Of '69 - Bryan Adams (DOC #23) This is classic radio rock. This was one of my top 30 hits of the year.
#27. Saving All My Love For You - Whitney Houston Whitney didn't really have the 80's vibe I dug back then.
#26. A View To A Kill - Duran Duran (DOC #12) Soundtracks were huge in the 80's. This is one of my favorite Duran Duran songs. Up there with "Girls On Film" , "Rio" and "Hungry Like The Wolf"
#25. Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go - Wham! (DOC #5 for 1984) This is pure 80's fun. Great sing along action. campy video, but likewise as much fun. I put this one at #3 on this list, but It made my actual top 100 of 1984 all the way at #5 for the year. I still , sometimes, use this one as my "Wake Up" alarm.
#24. Things Can Only Get Better - Howard Jones (DOC #83) Another fun, great song. Apart from the Glam Metal songs, these where the ones that got my blood pumping. I had been charting Howard since 1983 with "New Song" and "What Is Love". My favorite is "No One Is To Blame" from 1986.
#23. Freeway Of Love - Aretha Franklin This was way better than "Who's Zooming Who", but like I mentioned before, I was into a different vibe for R&B.
#22. Strut - Sheena Easton Ah yes the lovely Sheena Easton. This was was as sultry as "Sugar walls". I didn't chart this in 1985, cuz it made my 1984 top 100.
#21. Material Girl - Madonna (DOC #7) I had no idea what a "Material Girl" was back then? I thought it meant a hot chick who likes to dress like Marilyn Monroe. I don't care what anyone else thinks, this is Madonna at her vocal and musically best. You can't beat the 80's.
*We are really getting into the core of the 80's here. I can only reveal a few songs without the spoiling the fun. here are some more 1985 extras that made my top 30.
30. Freedom - Wham (DOC #3) We already ran into this one at the crappy slot you guys gave it earlier.
29. Tarzan Boy - Baltimora (BB #13) (DOC #1) Here is a classic Italo hit you guys probably forgot about? It says Billboard peak of #13? I don't recall that, but I do recall this being my favorite song for one week.
28. Change - John Waite (BB #54) (DOC #3) John Waite was one of my favorite rock vocalists. From The Babys ,to his 90's Glam band; Bad English. This song was originally from late 1982, but was rereleased for the "Vision Quest" soundtrack. Both times it failed to crack the Top 40, but it was a big Rock format, radio hit throughout the 80's. I loved this song so much, I also brought it back for top 10 action. This is the original 1983 music video
27. Perfect Way - Scritti Politti (BB #11) (DOC #1) British Sophistipop/Synthpop Band, that many consider a one hit wonder. There highest Hot 100 peak was #11 in 1985. Another great song that missed Billboard's top 100. I took it to #1 for one week. This one also had a swift chart run on my weekly charts. 28-17-15-14-11- 10-9-7-2-1-6-15-22-23-off
26. Tenderness - General Public (BB #39) (DOC #2) Another British New Wave band that had big success on my personal charts way before they changed their name from , English Beat to General Public. The U.S HOT 100 never knew hot to appreciate them ,and let all there great songs slip through their fingers.
25. Call Me - Go West ( BB #54) (DOC #4) ..and yet another British band who found a home on my charts. Go West were a sophistipop band, consisting of Pter Cox and Richard Drummie. You could call them the Hall & Oates of England. Peter Cox was the one with the great vocals and Richard Drummie took the ,silent partner ,on guitars position. Anyway, I love this band so much, I am still charting them today.
24.? 22. ? 21. ?

I think if there's one really big band that has essentially been forgotten, it's Dire Straits. And I don't mean disliked/made fun of forgotten. I mean virtually never mentioned at all.

I will be extremelly happy if my #1 make it to the top 10.
I don't dislike any of the songs in the top 20 except maybe my #69 and even that one I sometimes like.
