Brandi should have been top 2. They really thought they were onto something there.

Have to agree with Billboard. ''Stay'' performance was decent and refreshing, everything else pointless.

Just got back from the show, and hot damn if I didn’t flip the hell out when Kacey Musgraves won AOTY, and when MICHELLE OBAMA casually strolled out when nobody expected it. I was in spitting distance from her and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t narrowly close to pissing myself.
More thoughts later, but for how low of expectations many had going into this tonight (myself included), I was very pleased with the final product. And Alicia Keys did great.

Well, I only caught the first hour of this. All I gotta say is, yes to the AOTY. And no to who won best Rap album. Like I said, I knew it was coming, but still, IOP is nothing compared to Daytona, or even Astroworld.
Also, God's Plan for Best Rap Song? Really?
But hey, Dua won BNA. I'd take that over last year's joke of a winner.

I'm interested in seeing what the ratings are b/c it was actually a better show than probably anyone expected, but the producers put such a sour taste in a lot of people's mouths before Sunday even got here that I'm thinking many skipped out on watching live. Production was uneven. Alicia was so high even my mom noticed. J. Lo had no business doing that Motown tribute and if you still don't get why that was a problem at this point you're just intentionally being obtuse. They cut off literally every winners' speech there was after less than a minute, and Drake's speech was that one dark cloud reminding us all that s**t still ain't sweet. But most of the performances overall were good and none of the winners were really problematic or 'wrong,' unless you're in bitter stan mode. My main gripe there is that - since I was wrong about Brandi sweeping or even winning one general category - they should have presented one of her categories on air. People need to KNOW that that voice did not go home empty-handed. I also appreciate that a larger than usual amount of less-recognized talent got a chance to shine tonight (Janelle, Kacey, H.E.R., Brandi, Chloe x Halle) and hopefully attracted some new fans. Get rid of the old fossils and this show can really be something glorious one day. Other than people on pulse or follow media outlets really know what went down with Ari. If that’s what you’re talking about with the bad taste. I would think the telecast could have an uptick and that’s mainly bc it was on the same channel as the Super Bowl where it was promoted again and again. JLo surprised me. Prerecorded or not. It wasn’t the disaster I expected. It actually worked. I think JLo has a pleasant voice. Just like Diana. It’s not like either are vocal powerhouses. I don’t think she did any disservice to Motown. It essentially shows just how accessible Motown was. Personally, I would hope a lot of the younger people know Motown music. I hope this wasn’t anyone’s first take on Motown.

2nd year in a row when a primarily black field for AOTY was won by a caucasian. other time this century with a primarily black field, Ray Charles won.
at least if brandi won it would have been a triumph for an out queer person. kacey is a nice white lady though i guess?

I haven’t seen clips of her hosting yet, but she maintained a very healthy and excited atmosphere all night in the room. Maybe it didn’t go over as well on TV, though, as you said. I’ll watch back tomorrow.

God, I got 100% on my GoldDerby predictions for the main categories! I’m excited and also glad I didn’t switch “This Is America” with “Shallow” at the last minute.
All in all, I think the Academy made up for the bland nominations and actually puller through with the awards. Great winner for AOTY, great winner for ROTY & SOTY, great winner for Best New Artist (oh my God, Dua Lipa is a two time Grammy winner!!!!!).

It essentially shows just how accessible Motown was. Personally, I would hope a lot of the younger people know Motown music. I hope this wasn’t anyone’s first take on Motown. I saw/knew a lot of people who I would call casual viewers, who forgot the show was coming on and seemed disinterested. The SB itself was the lowest rated SB in ten years, so all the ads may not have helped as much as they should have. I don't think the Grammys' ratings are going to be as low as last year's (iirc that dipped below 20 million) but it's not going to be one of their stronger years either. With Jennifer it's not about the quality of performance, which was fine and would be a great section in her own Vegas show. I knew going in she wasn't going to embarrass herself; she's not Madonna. But there's a time and a place for that kind of thing and an award show tribute is not it. I see it this way - if the show had wanted to do a tribute to the Latin explosion of 1999 and then had Beyonce as the main star of that tribute, a lot of people would have rightfully not been happy about it. If you're an awards show and you're 'honoring' something that is so intrinsically connected with a particular culture, it's just tone-deaf to pick someone with no apparent connection to that culture and think everyone's gonna be okay with it simply b/c she's a great performer. Ultimately it will be a forgotten moment b/c the rest of the night was a positive, and that is a good thing for Jenny. Had this been a part of last year's show which was really weak, she'd be getting dragged as collateral damage. On a side note, several people felt that JLo would have made more sense in the opener and I agreed with that at first, but seeing now that the opener was really just Havana with a few extra friends, I get why she wasn't included. They weren't trying to have Camila upstaged on her own song and Jennifer was likely not about to be reduced to anyone's "& guest."

I didn't feel Alicia as a host, could be because I've always felt she was overrated as an artist. Jlo doing Motown with a bunch of white dancers, wtf was that.. Of course she turned Motown into some Latin flavored routine... Besides Gaga performance everything else was a snooze fest...

Yeah, the bit where she played a bunch of songs on two pianos was really good, but Alicia was visibly high, stumbled over words when reading from the teleprompter, and rambled on for too long many times. The camera work during the night was also messy, which didn't help. But I can see how in person, none of this would have been apparent or really even a bad thing.

Overall, I thought this year's Grammys telecast was much more enjoyable than in other years. Though I did go through an entire pack of Marlboro blacks tonight so there's that. I thought Alicia was a better host than some of the other ones we have had in other years. It was a nice change from LL Cool J. But it seemed like she got more and more drugged up as the show dragged on. Perhaps she needed more of the good-good to make it through. I think the pacing of the show wasn't the best. There were too many performance packed in. The Grammy president's address could have been cut out. I could have done without that awkward Alessia/Bob intro. They could be more consistent with how much time they allow for speeches. Don't cut some off and let others drag on. The Dolly tribute was nice though Katy had no business being there. Dolly thankfully came out and saved it. The Aretha tribute was lovely. Overall, I loved tonight's Grammy performances by Kacey Musgraves, Janelle Monae, Brandi Carlile, H.E.R., Diana Ross, Dolly Parton, and Camila Cabello. The Motown tribute was entertaining but I would have preferred it with other artists. Cardi's was fun. I was disappointed by Lady Gaga's performance because her dancing and overall performing were just too over the top for a song of that nature. I get wanting to embody Rock & Roll and getting into it, but it just didn't work. I wanted to like Shawn's performance but it was too pitchy form my liking. No amount of his nakedness would save the performance. Miley was a good addition though. I honestly think he is having performance anxiety from holding on to the secret that he is gay. Just come out of the closet and be your true authentic self. I was absolutely not here for Post Malone. I feel bad for RHCP getting roped into that. He’s like an ugly-hot to me. I’d smash. He looks a like a bootleg Steph Curry. But I'd still hit it and quit it. Bye y'all Shawn Mendes is gay That commercial that aired during the Grammys also further confirms that. Cardi's walking the carpet with Offset lmao. Either she's really dumb or the d!ck's really good. Remember how she posted on Twitter about how much she missed it and wanted it so bad? Young Thug completely killed the flow of that performance LOL As necessary as it was to have him because he was in the original hit version of it, it just didn't work. I would have preferred hearing Camila do the 2nd verse from her solo version of the song. Anyone else remember watching The 1998 Grammys when Ricky Martin performed? That was absolutely epic. It made me feel some kind of caliente way that I didn't know I could feel. I didn't know what I was feeling but I wanted more of it. Am I wrrong for feeling like this stage setup is like a lesser take on Cardi's I Like It perf at the AMAs? No. I thought it was referencing Cardi's performance in addition to recreating certain parts from her own music video. The abuela and sister characters from the video were in one of those 'apartments' on the stage. Then of course the nightclub parts with the dancing. Can Michelle Obama host every award show from now on? THIS X 1 million! She is just perfect in every way. Oooooh!! Shawn isn't wearing sleeves Even though I am still pissed at him for what he said in the RS interview, I can't be mad at his arms looking so scrumptious. That's why I have him as my avi right now. Ellen showed that exact same photo on her show when he visited last Thursday. Thank goodness she got him to shave off that beard so we could see his gorgeous face. No flashy lights, no gimmicks, just a piano and a great voice emoting. God, Kacey, knock them dead! :') It was superb in its simplicity. I liked that there were the rainbow lights in the background later on in the performance. That performance was BORING. Well of course it's "boring" when you compare it to Ashanti stripping and giving lap dances during her live performances. I was hoping for something else besides "Make Me Feel," but I digress. Janelle is finally on the Grammy stage. Crying! Same here, but it's just such a fun song and Janelle just owned that stage and shut shit down. Prince would be so f**king proud right now!! YES! It had all the aspects that I loved in Prince's own performances but Janelle made them all her own and then some. She needs to be bigger than she is. I see this is the “songs that should have actually been hits last year” segment. Good on the Grammys for actually giving Kacey and Janelle prime time slots, although I wonder what it’ll mean for ratings. If anything, these performances will rightfully introduce them to those who haven't checked them out yet. I had known a handful of Kacey's songs from the rankdowns and of course "Follow Your Arrow" from the controversy over its release back in the day. I am listening to Golden Hour for the first time as I respond to the posts in this topic and I am enjoying every song so far. Post Malone acoustic is making my bowels move. I was just cringing at the vocals but mostly those face tattoos. I just can't deal with that. This performance is a hot mess. Why is RHCP performing this forgotten three-year-old song? As much as I love RHCP, this was just not good at all. I would have preferred RHCP doing their own songs only. Why does Katy Perry still not know how to sing? That was painful to watch. I felt like she was overdoing it instead of going for a less is more type of approach. Great tribute performance. Dolly sang her ass off! Dolly's still got it! She waltzed in and showed everyone how it's done. Alicia is literally getting higher and higher with every word she's saying rn she looks like she had some good edibles bitch! I felt like she was going to go all "hare Krishna, hare Rama" when she began swaying. The people on my FB feed think she is either totally coked out on connie or tweaked out on tina. I am planning to check her out after seeing this performance. That was great. There were some parts where I thought she was but I am not 100% sure. The performance was ferosh either way. Ohh no Meghan that is not the outfit for you hun I was like, "where is the rest of it?" So... why was there a chicken singing with Florida Georgia Line? That was a chicken? I thought it was Bebe Rexha That's what I thought. crying at Drake showing up JUST to s**t on the show That was hysterical. Watch them never nominate or invite him again. Alicia Keys has perhaps discovered she's an alto, but she still struggles with pitch. At least she wasn't screaming all over the place like a banshee in the forest like she usually does. Wow Diana Ross still looks amazing at 75 and she is still serving vocals! That was amazing! She has taken amazing care of her voice. I wish they had let her do more songs because 2 is just not enough. I thought she was going to go into "Take Me Higher" at the end but sadly she didn't. That dancing was random as fuck. It's like she's at a funeral about to do a respectful ballad then she's like, "FUCK IT! SHE'S DEAD! LET'S DISCO!" Cardi needs to dog walk both her and that Tomi Lahren ASAP. This shit is getting ridic. Can someone tell me who is actually singing in those prerecorded vocals? It's definitely her and it's been autotuned and melodyned to hell. When her voice gets really high it's obvious. Were there boos from the audience for BTS? I heard boos and tepid applause. I am not their biggest fan, but it's like, there's no need to be extra disrespectful. I like this Brandi girl. No gimmicks, just talent. Brandi is amazing. This is hot though. I need to check out St. Vincent. She is. I heard a song of hers in a rankdown we had this week and I am really interested.

I didn't watch the Grammy Awards mainly because I don't think they really respect urban music (see f**king JLO for her inclusion to Motown tribute) if you want a real Motown tribute go see BET.
I'm glad Janelle killed it and H.E.R Watching clips on two of my faves ♥. Happy for Cardi & Ella Mai and yes to Tori Kelly!
I love Alicia Keys she can do no wrong for me! Natural women with talent💪
I didn't know who Brandi with an I was but mucho talent come through. I know her now.
Lol go DRAKE icon!

We didn't ask for Madonna, we didn't ask for JLo stop playing with our musical history when there is enough artists who represented that era and Motown around.

Lol wow rolling Stone destroyed JLo now this is extreme " rock bottom worst performance in Grammy History"
And for comedy, there was Jennifer Lopez, who gave one of the absolute rock-bottom worst performances in Grammy history. Her Motown medley triggered horrific flashbacks of Sanjaya on American Idol’s Diana Ross Week. Seeing a Jackson Maine-size disaster like that at the Grammys made you pray Andrew Dice Clay would come onstage to carry her into a cold shower. How did this happen? Diana Ross was in the room. So was Smokey Robinson. So were Ashanti and Bob Newhart and Weird Al Yankovic, all of whom were better equipped to sing “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” on live TV. What a way to treat the greatest of American songbooks. (Guess you could call it a “tribute,” kinda like the Roman Empire’s tribute to Carthage.) Smokey deserves a do-over. But give J. Lo credit — it’s an achievement to win the Most Vocally Challenged honors in a show that includes a Red Hot Chili Peppers jam with Post Malone.
😂 child give him an A for being funny and reading lol
