Let's be real we all thought this sounded like a 2012 leftover and #11 is much higher than anyone realistically should've expected.
This type of material isn't current. A true testament to the high demand there is for post-ASIB Lady Gaga that it even made it to #11.

The song grew on me a tad, but it’s like I know she’s capable of having much more infectious pop tunes. Looking forward to listening to the next single.

Beyond the quality of the song, this is the best performing single of hers since 2014... I don't think we have reason to be upset. I'm happy they're pulling this now and making room for "Rain on Me" or whatever the second single will be to get a good start. Well done, gaga.

And let’s remember this was supposed to be done in early April based on their initial plan.

In my opinion it's a risk going for a collaboration with Ariana for the 2nd single. No guarantee that it will be a big hit. Look how the Charlie's Angel song did.

She's releasing a dance/techno album, nothing is guaranteed to be a big hit from that kind of project. ROM is the best bet of course even though it might not be the best song on it.
I think a top 5 hit (SL) and low top ten - top 20 (2nd single) would be great result for her though, if we think of how DCMA did.

Beyond the quality of the song, this is the best performing single of hers since 2014 Is it tho? Shallow and Million Reasons, although peaking lower, had far more longevity than this is going to have. This is literally freefalling off the chart. Peaks aren’t everything.

The Charlies Angles song wasn’t good. If the new collab is good, it’ll smash. Let’s be real.
Some people wait here with bated breath to post trash. We see you and you ain’t fooling anyone.

Pop radio administrators are a bunch of con artists. Blah. Oh yeah let's blame Radio, the ones that supported Gaga the most and prevented Stupid Love (at least for a few weeks) from crashing down the Hot 100.

They gave Madonna a hard time even when she was in her prime and now girls like Gaga, Taylor, Katy are struggling. Male artists don't have the same problem. This should change.

That all sounds incredibly familiar to me after having to deal with country radio's mess of hardly any women...it's industry wide and needs to f**king stop. Sexism and ageism are both disgusting. (Should also say country charts are getting a bit better with women lately but it needs to be equal airplay always--and by equal I'm talking age too).

Madonna had plenty of big hits in her 30s. She was older than Gaga when she scored huge hits with “Take a Bow” and “I’ll Remember.” Let’s not forget about “Music” in the year 2000. She even got radio airplay into her 40s. This narrative to try to make it seem like Gaga’s descend is comparable to Madonna’s is just laughable. The same thing with Janet, Whitney and Mariah, who have all had greater longevity than ANY pop girl that came out after 1999. This “Blocking females over 30” thing didn’t really start until the late 2000s/2010s on radio.

Ageism towards female artists have always existed on radio though, it wasn't just Madonna's problem. And now Gaga, Taylor, Katy and many other pop girls are suffering cause they are over 30.
Anyway, i think SL did great by debuting and peaking in top 5 in two most important markets. Maybe radios will be more supportive with a better song.

it wasn't just Madonna's problem. It also didn't help that she released "American Life" as a single at that time because she still got airplay here up through "Die Another Day" and then that was it.

Radio only played it because Justin was on it and as soon it was done they dumped it. Everything after DAD until 4M came out didn't get much play at all. And then nothing after 4M got any.

But to say even Madonna didn't struggle after a certain point on pop radio isn't really accurate either. She was a constant presence up until 2001ish or so and then was spotty after that but her last #1 on pop radio was Take A Bow in 1995, 12 years into her career. After that, she would get close with Music at #2 in 2000 but other than that, she only had six top 5 hits after Take A Bow were You'll See (1996), Frozen (1998), Music (2000), Don't Tell Me (2001), Die Another Day (2002) and 4 Minutes (2008). There's a clear divide in her charting abilities: before 1995 and after 1995. In 1995, she turned 37.

I went further up and checked some of her stats and I know Hung Up was a worldwide hit but to my surprise it went all the way to #16 on Pop and that after American Life which was the album that changed her fortunes on Pop radio. wweb.uta.edu/faculty/gghunt/charts/madonna.htmlOh and in between the top 5 hit Die Another Day and Hung Up, Me Against The Music with Britney peaked at #11. I'm surprised Hollywood didn't even hit top 40.

So this comparison between her and Madonna on the airplay charts is just not adding up.

Die Another Day was such an underrated moment for Madonna. She did it solo and got to #4 on Pop and she was 44.
American Life ruined all that momentum. Ugh.

You make it seem like Hung Up wasn't a massive hit.
Sure, it didn't fit the pop radio climate but the album went double platinum.

I still think Gaga has some huge hits in her, she should just release better songs than SL and i'm sure she'll be fine.
