She sounds great, the song is pretty but a bit boring; she looks beautiful in the movie scenes, but the more I see from this movie the more unenthusiastic I am about it.

Actually that Spotify position is insanely good!! Take away the Lil Wayne and Logic album tracks and Shallow would be 25-ish

Serious question directed at the hardcore lil monsters out there.. do you guys honestly like this new song/songs (?) or do you try your hardest/pretend to do so just like you did with Joanne? And Cheek To Cheek? And her new job as an actress? I was a big fan up until 2014 but she has completely lost me since then because not only do I not like the direction her music has taken (which is totally fine since she can do whatever she wants to do) but even her voice is irritating in these type of songs. The pleasant tone she had in her pop tracks has completely vanished in the jazz/country/folk department of her discography and I'm not gonna lie; even her personality is getting on my nerves in recent years. There's nothing fun about her anymore. It's all about the acclaim for her now (which again, is fine) but she took the boring EGOT way of doing it and completely disassociated herself from what made her popular in the first place. I can't imagine how people who were hardcore stans in 2008 can still find her entertaining at all. And the sad part is that I think this is what she always wanted to be tbh: an actress who also makes adult contemporary music catered to the voting committee of the awards shows. Lady Gaga seems like a distant memory at this point. It has been all about Stefani Germanotta since 2014 but now it's more obvious than ever.

Not a Stan of hers by any means, but I legitimately love some tracks from Joanne and am hyped for this soundtrack. Lady Gaga is way more than just a popstar doing dance influenced pop music, she's a true artist and I'm thrilled she's at a place in her career where she can share that artistry with the world and not be dismissed. She's pivoting in her career amazingly well.
And I'd honestly take an album of "Yoü and I"s, "Million Reasons"s, and "Shallows"s over "Marry the Night"s, "LoveGame"s, and "The Cure"s, which I guarantee is what we'd get if she went back to doing dance oriented pop music.

The ARTPOP period was her lowest point by far for me, and by far her worst as far as output is concerned. Just a terrible, virtually unlistenable album aside from less than a handful on highlights. If that's where her dance-pop sound was going, she can stay away from it forever.
Joanne had significant flab, but you can extract a very solid EP from it. I like Shallow, even it's not as tight as it could be, and I agree that Bradley is the real revelation on it lol. But it's so nice to hear her properly sing, and not ruin herself with s**tty accents and affects. I wasn't big on her 70s-inspired work at all in her earlier years. I think Speechless is the singular not good song on TFM, and that Y&I is one of her worst singles. PI is still terrible and so misguided, and Million Reasons on record is sunk by her vocal (I wish she'd re-recorded it following the SB, because as a song it's not bad). But she has improved, and while Shallow isn't as good as the title track from Joanne, it's far above the other songs I mentioned.
And I still would have preferred her to be listed as Stefani Germanotta instead of Lady Gaga in the film.

Lady Gaga seems like a distant memory at this point. It has been all about Stefani Germanotta since 2014 but now it's more obvious than ever. Joanne was a big shift from me since admittedly I do yearn for the days of electropop Gaga (Fame Monster and Born This Way teas) but I also consider alt-country and singer/songwriter pop to be my favourite genre of music and Joanne did touch on a lot of that. Not super well but there are songs on there that I really love. I listened to the album for the first time in a while yesterday and it does have a certain charm to it. Diamond Heart is epic, A-Yo is fun, Million Reasons is actually a good song, and Come To Mama is a late favourite for me. Cheek to Cheek I think she did well at but I only listened to it 2 or 3 times as a whole. I think Gaga's vocals are fairly versatile and while she can cross into the realm of grating fairly easily (see most of her live piano ballad versions), she does have a voice for jazz in my non-expert opinion. I'd say the thing about her that does irk me the most is when she tries to build too much of a story around whatever her current project is, as if it's something she's always lived - as if she's trying to convince everyone that there's justification for why she created an album around an aunt she'd never met, or that she somehow has always lived for country music, or why she was made for the big screen. I also don't really watch interviews so truthfully I don't know exactly what she says - only what I read in articles really. As for Gaga as a whole, I think what she's doing is smart. She's expanding on her reach, creating a future legacy and not putting all of her eggs in one basket. She ruled the pop landscape. She excelled in her attempt at jazz. She got headlines vomiting on a girl on stage and a year later won hearts with her cover of the Sound of Music. She was convincing in American Horror Story. She had fun experimenting with country and now she's diving into folk/country/pop as an actor and winning people over with that. That's how you extend your career. Yeah, she can be making pop album after pop album and maybe getting the occasional hit with that but I feel like even I'd be bored with her if she did that. Instead, she's trying new things with every new project she does. Not everyone is going to like everything or even most things she does, but somehow she keeps people interested (albeit, it seems like people are least interested in her full-length albums and go more for her one-offs like award show tributes and movie roles. Go figure).

And Cheek To Cheek? And her new job as an actress? Not a hardcore fan of Gaga, but there's something wrong about this post and it's the assumption that people like her for the Pop/Dance sound only and not for other elements of her artistry. Personally, the one thing that has always attracted me to her is her songwriting and I don't even mess with Dance music in general. Lady Gaga wrote her Pop hits and the same person wrote the Joanne album. To me there's a connection between all of her albums and that's her style. It's what made me appreciate Joanne and the fact that she's putting more focus on her vocal talent. I don't have to pretend to like the "new" Gaga because I recognise that this Gaga has always been there. She was just buried underneath the synths and glitz and drama.

^Preach! She has also always composed her songs on piano and that's why pop hits like Bad Romance, Poker Face, Perfect Illusion and The Edge of Glory sound amazing as acoustic piano versions too.

I don’t think that’s necessarily true. I’m sure some of those were composed to track in the studio but she is a such a good pianist she later is able to play them on the piano.

There are some songs on Joanne I like ("Diamond Heart," "Dancing in Circles," "Perfect Illusion") but for the most part, the entire C2C/Joanne/ASIB era has been a turn off for me. Still, enough happened in 2008-2013 that will keep me on board, probably forever. Her live show remains excellent. The visuals for Enigma look great, she supposedly is in the studio with interesting producers and has made some interesting fashion choices lately. The last couple years have done wonders for her career and I'm hoping she uses the post-Oscars momentum to remind everyone that she's creative and doesn't take herself too seriously. Her cover of "I Want Your Love" on the new Chic album is great.

The songs are pretty and all but not being a big movie musical fan, it all sounds very boring to me. Still rooting for her to keep her name out there through the entire awards season. Hopefully we get an album announcement after The Oscars.

I didn't bother to comment before but I laughed at that too... I mean Joanne is basically softness to third degree compared to Heavy Metal Lover. Just listen to Sinner's Prayer or Million Reasons.
But it's probably softness of different kind. To me, her most "raw" songs are on Artpop, such as the title track, Aura, Dope and DWUW. And then there are Speechless on TFM and You and I on BTW.

From the pages of Billboard.com
Lady Gaga Duet Sparks Bradley Cooper's Chart Debut With 'Shallow' From 'A Star Is Born' 10/2/2018 by Xander Zellner
The song should soar next week following its first full week of tracking
As audiences gear up for the romantic musical drama A Star Is Born, due in theaters Friday (Oct. 5), Bradley Cooper makes his Billboard chart debut thanks to the duet "Shallow" with co-star Lady Gaga.
The ballad debuts at No. 14 on the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart (dated Oct. 6) and No. 4 on the Pop Digital Song Sales survey with 12,000 downloads sold in the tracking week ending Sept. 27, according to Nielsen Music.
Notably, the track debuts with just a half-day of tracking, as it was released on the final day of the Sept. 21-27 tracking week. As such, the song will likely make a sizable jump on next week's charts (dated Oct. 13) and could debut on the streaming, airplay and sales-based Billboard Hot 100 next week. According to building Nielsen Music data, "Shallow" is the top-selling song of the current tracking week (ending Oct. 4), with over 35,000 sold so far.
The song, the lead single from the A Star Is Born soundtrack (also due Oct. 5), was co-written by Gaga, Mark Ronson, former Dirty Pretty Things vocalist Anthony Rossomando and Miike Snow vocalist Andrew Wyatt.
The soundtrack features four other Gaga/Cooper duets, along with five solo Cooper cuts and eight songs solely by Gaga. Writing credits on the set include Jason Isbell, Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter, Lukas Nelson and Natalie Hemby.
Cooper makes his directorial debut with A Star Is Born and co-produced and co-wrote the screenplay for the film. He portrays musician Jackson Maine, who discovers Gaga's character Ally, in the latest remake of the original 1937 movie starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. The film was adapted into a musical in 1954 starring Judy Garland and remade as a musical in 1976 starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.

Saw the movie. Absolutely fantastic. She sold it. And the music was phenomenal. As more and more people see this, I expect her to stay on awards contention. As good as she was, though, Bradley was exceptional.

I just got back from an All Access Event in Cinemark XD tonight and GaGa was absolutely INCREDIBLE. From her roles in "American Horror Story" to Ally is a complete 180 and demonstrates that she could have a very BIG future in films if she plays her cards right. Bradley has always been a good actor in my opinion but diving into the role of Jackson is a whole new side of the actor. His singing voice was so gruff and befitting of the character. I'd definitely buy a whole album of material from him in a heartbeat. They are both a shoe-in for all the big acting noms (and hopefully wins), Bradley for Best Director, and I could see "Shallow" and/or {Spoiler} "I'll Never Love Again" being the songs nominated for Best Original Song at the Golden Globes and Oscars this season. Bravo. Sidenote: The Julia Michaels / Justin Tranter-assisted track "Heal Me" is excellent also. I could immediately tell which one it was from GaGa doing some of Julia's trademarks vocal inflections. Copping the soundtrack on Friday for sure!
