Err… these lyrics are not giving me a lot of hope for mainstream smash tbh. They honestly seem like her darkest and most inaccessible lyrics for a single to date. Obviously the song doesn’t have to be a hit for me to like it, but I really did want a smash this time. Maybe it will be too catchy for lyrics to stop it, ala the Bad Romance verses.

This is "techno"? I mean, techno is essentially a meaningless term that the media threw around for anything with upbeat electronic production in the late 90s, so I guess I could see how someone applies it to this song.
But this is just really epic dark pop that's the closest thing she's served to The Fame Monster in years! It's almost like TFM meets ARTPOP to me.

What a good return to music for her with this one. I really love the structure of this song. It reminds me of Fame Monster tracks with a much heavier sound. I’m definitely interested to hear the full scope of this album.

Having listened listened to this, now I'm like wait, there's the GUY instrumental at the end. TBH the more I listen to this, the more I hear a slightly more controlled ARTPOP track. I hear everything from Aura to Guy, Mary Jane Holland to Manicure. Squelchy electro, random drops/synths. Thought we'd never hear anything like this from her again. |

Listening to this, Joyride, and I'm His He's Mine all in a row is so satisfying.
So is tacking on Sabrina, Chappell, Charli, and Billie. It feels similar to the turn of the millennium when Madonna, Janet, Whitney, and Mariah shared the airwaves with Britney, Christina, etc.

This is an excellent return to form. The pre-chorus and chorus are absolute beasts. Her vocals are top notch. I would have thrown some hand claps in and put some crazy ass spoken word at the top of the bridge instead of repeating the chorus but can’t have everything. Now we need a 10 min iconic music video like the old days.

Just heard Disease . I've always wondered what a METAL rock bih would sound over a pop synth beat and this is IT. This sounds a mature return to her roots but FRESH and not redundant.
Gaga said hold my cup I'm taking 2024 .
