Let me guess, a new song from an upcoming greatest hits album. Curb Records does not put out enough of those on their artists. Cough-Tim McGraw-cough.

I doubt this will do a whole lot but I had a feeling Curb was waiting until the tides turned a little in the genre to try again with Atkins. He still has super high gold play around here so his name is familiar enough.
I didn't start listening to country until I was in college but at that point Rodney was getting tons of recurrent play. I feel like I "grew up" on him lol.
He'll always be one of my favorite all-time artists and I can't wait to hear this.

I've been waiting for them to give him another go for awhile. But the song title does not excited me.

It's been 7 years since this guy had anything resembling a hit single and it's been over 3 since they even tried with him at country radio, so I can't imagine this will do anything. I'm pretty sure he's done in the mainstream. His last single was used to promote a Greatest Hits album, so as much as Curb loves those, I'm sure the intention behind this release will be to get his fifth studio album out, especially since it's also been 7 years now since his last one of those, too. Whether it gets released though remains to be seen, since Curb regularly goes back and forth between throwing albums out at random without seeming to care what happens and withholding albums for years and years until what would've been the album's fifth or six single becomes at least a Top 30 hit.

Why does he always look so awkward in his ads & single covers...?? It's because he records for Curb records and know's he is wasting his time releasing music and taking photo's to promote it.

What Curb should do with there artist's is everytime they release a new single release a greatest hit's album along with it that way they can keep them $5 cd bins @ Walmart full.

This guy's career totally flat-lined like 6-7 years ago, so he's lucky he's even still got a record label to release and promote music at all. I don't know if it was his choice to take like 3 years off radio and not put out any new music, but even if it was Curb's fault he got put on the back-burner, I'm sure he's still grateful for any opportunity he has to release music. He's not in a position where he'd be doing any better anywhere else.

Looks like this is written by Connie Harrington (“I Drive Your Truck”), Jordan Schmidt (“If The Boot Fits”), and Mike Walker.
I haven’t liked a Rodney song since “Watching You” (although “Take a Back Road” was ok if only because of the George Strait plug). His music does seem to connect with a certain demographic (same fan base that you’d see at a Granger Smith concert), but I’ve never been a fan. I agree though that his days at radio are likely over.

"Watching You." Never ever want to hear the nuggets and buckaroo lyrics again. Instant station-changer.
It started off as a good song but radio overplay destroyed it. Rodney's to the point of only getting secondary radio airplay.

Is it just me or do a lot of Curb's releases seem very behind the times? Their use of inexperienced producers like Chuck Howard and Ted Hewitt often makes a lot of their songs sound at least 10-20 years behind stylistically, and it even felt that way in the 90s. A lot of the Chuck Howard produced nobodies in the late 90s like Perfect Stranger, Smokin' Armadillos, Blake & Brian, etc. sounded oddly dated. Even early Tim McGraw sounds very outdated for mid-1990s standards, but at least both he and Byron Gallimore both got more experienced over time.
Only Lee Brice seems to have much better producers behind him a lot of the time. And considering that his early stuff was done by Doug Johnson, whose own 90s work tends to have a similarly "dated" feel too, that's saying something.

YIKES...this thing is an absolute production nightmare. It's liked they did a mash-up of about 5 different songs and this is the result.

This starts out sounding perfectly harmless in a Granger Smith way.
But that clapping, huge wall of backing vocals, drum machine -- this just proves my point. Curb tends to have HORRIBLE producers on hand.

As a fan of Rodney's back in the day I was hoping this would at least be decent. But it's not. Good thing this won't get any radio play because it would be a station changer.

He could honestly have released the best song of his entire career and it would've flopped hard anyway because he's completely done having hits at this point... but this is honestly just a hot mess, lmao. Like, they kept him off the radio for over three years and this is what they decide to finally come back with?

Sounds like a Chase Rice song with worse production.

This sounds like High Valley and that's disgusting.
Also what has he DONE to his VOICE?!?!? He sounds horrendous. He's always been a really bad live singer, but he never used to sound like a dying cat!
The song is horrible too. I expect this kind of garbage from High Valley but one artist doing this awful style of music is enough. Just EW!
