That seems so far away.... she will have to release two singles before it's out.

UMG, specifically Capitol Records does this often, I believe Keith’s “Ripcord” had two leading singles before the album came out, and I think Luke and LBT have all had multiples singles out before some of their albums as well. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure this is the case. We also don’t know how well “Cry Pretty” (the single) will do. Could peak in a month, or it could take months. They may also have major plans with the song before the album comes out... OR they could totally be planning to release another single mid summer to keep the momentum going. My hope is that CP blows up, becomes the song of the summer, which would set Carrie up perfectly for an epic album launch in September.

1. I love Cry Pretty. Especially Carrie Underwood's live performance at the A.C.M.s. 2. I expect Cry Pretty to be sitting at #1 in either June or July. Whatever month it hits the top will be the month that the second single is released. 3. I didn't mind the glitter around her eyes for the single cover. However, for the album, it's bothering me. If real tears were used instead of the glitter, it might send a stronger message.

I don't really follow her career that close so, speaking as an "outsider" (LOL), for some reason I was expecting a more "mature" aesthetic for this era. Personally, at this point in her career, the whole Barbie-ish glittery thing seems a bit 'off' as an aesthetic direction. With the label chance I was anticipating something different I guess.

I suspect she will announce a tour around the time the album is released.

I was expecting a much more mature-looking album cover, but as they say, I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, so I remain hopeful that this album will be better than Storyteller (which wasn’t very memorable imo).

Glitter = pretty. Shaped in tear marks around her eyes = crying. 2+2, y’all.
Totally get if it’s just not a cover that appeals to you, but the equation of that to being immature/Barbie-ish is a reach. But alright.

It's a pretty clear and even obvious concept/equation as you pointed yourself... that's not what I meant as immature or Barbie-ish. It's just the late-2000s teen-pop/glittery execution of that concept that feels a bit "off" to me personally... No need diminish it as being 'a reach' though, it's just an opinion.

My first thought when I saw the single artwork is that it gave me an Avril Lavigne aesthetic (I did like that one though), and now this album cover (which I don't like at all) looks like she hired whoever always manages to botch Britney Spears' artworks time and time again despite her being a) beautiful and b) having the $$ and pull to get the best graphics team available. I see what they were going for, but the this album cover just looks really cheap and unflattering to me, so I think they missed the mark here.

It's not a bad picture by any means but it is definitely Lisa Frank/Barbie colors to me. I wouldn't say immature but I also wouldn't disagree with those who say it is.

I’ve noticed that gains for this have been much larger post-ACMs. That great performance must have made an impact on radio programmers. :)

I actually think the art direction is supposed to be a play on her reputation as the "Country Barbie." I'm not a fan of the photo itself, but I'm not mad at the concept. I just wish she had chosen a stronger photographer to bring it to life tbh.

I don’t hate the cover, but I don’t love it. I get the glitter tears and the serious look, they’re clearly going very literal here - which is fine. The cover serves its purpose, Carrie looks stunning and it definitely catches your eye. Not that physical sales matter much anymore, but if I were looking through albums at the store, the bright color theme and glittery tears would definitely catch my eye. So from a marketing standpoint, this cover actually works, IMO.

How did I not know about this acoustic version until now?! It sounds fan made to me, but it's nice to have a stripped down version :)

The Album cover looks cheap and tacky but nobody will care if the songs are great.

I, for one, am shocked that the album release is FIVE months away.
Especially for an artist of her stature, I would have guessed mid-summer at the latest.

Ripcord is a really extreme case because the lead single came out in June 2015 and the second single in October 2015. A third single was actually released right before the album dropped May 2016, basically a full year after the lead single. But I mentioned in another thread that this delay isn’t all that uncommon. Kelsea Ballerinin had the same distance between “Legends” and her album that Carrie will have.

Geez, I hope 5 months is enough time to recognize that that album cover will exclude a TON of people. Makes no sense to me as an overly girly concept, and I think she looks very dead in the eyes. (And I'm a pretty big fan of hers.)

I'm not a fan of the album cover either... it looks like something that would have been on MySpace.
But with that said, I couldn't care less about album covers. As long as the music is good, I can hate the cover as much as possible and I'll still be happy. I have a strong feeling this will be the case here.

(And I'm a pretty big fan of hers.) So you won't buy an album because the cover looks too girly, or too manly, or too anything? Most people buy an album for the songs.

Haters are gonna hate *sip2* No, haters are not gonna hate. Not liking the album cover does not make me or other people, "haters." Please try to have an adult discussion.

I think that tartanmayz was saying that they were making crying seem like something only girls do, which isn’t true at all.
