Nonsense walked so the others could run. What an underrated hit.

YES! At "Almost Love" being her biggest from Hollywood Records days. That song and video were the early flashes of Sabrina The Artist of today.

After NONSENSE, I could just tell she was going to explode. That was such a good song and regardless of peak it is going to be one of the best pop songs of the modern era

Record breaker in the UK. Sabrina is the first artist in 71 years to spend 20 weeks at #1 in a single year with "Espresso" (#1, 7 weeks), "Please Please Please" (#1, 5 weeks) and "Taste" (#1, 8 weeks) there, behind Frankie Laine who did that back in 1953 with "I Believe" (#1, 18 non-consecutive weeks), "Hey Joe" (#1, 2 weeks) and "Answer Me" (#1, 8 weeks).

People have compared this era to the Teenage Dream era, but given her much bigger success in the UK, this era might be more comparable to the Loud era (if I had to pick an era from around that time to compare it to).

The singles from this album are just stellar. My favorite string of singles in a long time.

That was so sweet!!! She and this album deserve. The one I hope for the most though is "Espresso" for Record of the Year, but I could see it going to The Beatles because the Grammy voters might all have hard ons for getting to vote for The Beatles. But who knows, they didn't really for Billy Joel (whose first new song isn't even nominated), ABBA, and Diana Ross.

I still don’t get the Best New Artist?? She’s been a solo artist for years. Just because this is a breakout era doesn’t make her a new artist?? I have been a fan since “Thumbs” and that was years ago. Whitney did a few recordings and wasn’t even signed at the time and they denied her??

I hate to say it because of her fantastic year but I don't think she should win Best New Artist because she's been in it so long. I know it's more about an artists breakout year but I think it should go to an actual newer artist like Chappell Roan.

I'd rather someone like Shaboozey, Teddy Swims, Doechii or of course Chappell get it.

I mean, IF we’re being technical, Chappell has been releasing material for quite a few years and even commented that she has been doing this as long as Sabrina has, but both only broke out this year, so if Sabrina doesn’t deserve it, neither should Chappell.
(For the record, I want both gerls to win as many Grammys as possible this year.)

(For the record, I want both gerls to win as many Grammys as possible this year.) To be fair though, Chappell only had an EP, with a label that dropped her. Sabrina had 5 previous albums, albeit with Hollywood, but still.

I know it's more about an artists breakout year but I think it should go to an actual newer artist like Chappell Roan. I've seen similar comments repeatedly since the noms were announced and it makes me wonder what the shelf life for "new" is considered to be these days. Based on year of their first major release... Khruangbin: December 2011 Sabrina: April 2014 RAYE: December 2014 Chappell: September 2017 Shaboozey: October 2018 Doechii: May 2019 Teddy Swims: August 2019 Benson Boone: July 2022 ...Benson is technically the "newest" artist since the rest of them have been actively participating in music for the last five years minimum. Does three years make that much of a difference if two artists finally break through to the mainstream consciousness in the same year? Is more weight carried based on number of projects released or length of time between releases? Yes, Sabrina has six albums to Chappell's one meanwhile it took RAYE eight years to get her debut album released. Granted, Sabrina has probably had the most fringe success of the nominees (at least in America), so I don't think her losing BNA would be a slight by any stretch, but I think it's also worth considering that there truly is no linear path to "success" anymore. It could take a year or ten, an album or six, one smash hit or a steady build. The Shelby Lynnes of the industry are no longer the outliers.

She should not have been nominated for BNA, much less win it. If emails i can't send had never existed, there would be more of an argument for her to be eligible. But the fact of the matter is, it does, and that would have been a more fitting era for her to get a BNA nomination.
Before S&S, it was her highest peaking album (her previous two couldn't make it to the top 100). It also gave her two hits in "Nonsense" and "Feather". The success she experienced in that era was a massive step up from her previous albums. Plus, emails i can't send was released under Island Records, not Hollywood. So even if you discount all of her discography under Hollywood records, S&S would still be, as Sabrina said herself, her "second ‘big girl’ album". That said, getting a BNA nomination bodes well for chances of winning something. If the academy is willing overlook such nonsense, they must really like her and hopefully that will translate into a win somewhere. I hope she can at least get something for "Espresso".

Honestly the only issue here is not Sabrina but the award's name. It has been, functionally, a best breaktrough artist of the year for many years now. The Academy didn't overlook anything, they've tuned the rules for many years, especially after they could not nominate Lady Gaga back in the day for a technicality.

No one outside of her niche fandom really knew of her prior to SNS era. Now she has morphed into arguably the biggest new pop star of the decade so far since the singles for this era dropped. I see nothing wrong with her in BNA for it. Especially since Feather’s CHR success was right before Espresso, the emails era was already ancient. If anything, it feels way more like a part of SNS era too.

Gaga's and Sabrina's situations aren't really comparable. The reason why Gaga's omission was controversial was because she was disqualified despite the fact that her rise to fame and breakthrough are generally what people think of "Best New Artist" nominee to be. She had her breakthrough with The Fame, her first studio album with a major record label. The reason she was disqualified was because the year she was eligible for BNA, she had a previous nomination the year before for "Just Dance"...the lead single off of her debut album. It was basically some weird timing that disqualified Gaga, but again, the circumstances of her breakthrough are generally still in line with what people imagine a BNA nominee to be. Whereas Sabrina has had multiple albums with multiple major labels before her BNA nomination. I get that people want her to be recognized for how much her career has leveled up with SnS, but surely her other nominations, including in the other 3 general field categories are more than enough to acknowledge this. I like Sabrina and I'm happy for the success she's had with SnS but come on now.
Anyways, Fruitcake has been re-stocked in her store, now including a CD and cassette version (vinyl was previously the only physical release). Unsuprisingly, the shipping date coincides with the release date of her Netflix Christmas special (Dec. 6th). I wish she would have used the opportunity to expand the EP into a full album. Oh well.
