At least Billboard made a point to mention a lot of Drake’s weeks are as a featured artist.

I know it's beating a dead horse at this point to talk about how insignificant sales are, but it's still crazy to see the #4 song on sales at #98 on the Hot 100. If Apple does phase out the iTunes store next year as rumored, I wonder if that forced push to streaming for all those former sales-only people will somewhat diminish hip-hop's stranglehold on streaming? I think so. It just makes sense. On the same overall topic... As someone who doesn't stream and prefers to download HQ mp3s from 7Digital and use iTunes as storage and playback, I'm not naive enough to think that this option will be around forever. Labels/Artists making their music available for physical sales and download are just feeding their own demise at this point, imo. Streaming guarantees a consistent profit (with tons of growth potential, i'm sure) without the widespread epidemic of pirating/sharing. I'm sure there are hackers who will find ways to extract songs from streaming services, but most people will subscribe to streaming anyway, because they prefer it over mp3s - so that potentially becomes moot. So it's still far less problematic than allowing people to have a physical thing or a downloaded file to copy and share with the world for free. BUT I'm in no hurry for anything to disappear - I'm in love with digital collection, artwork, and playlists. Hopefully iTunes as a playback app doesn't go anywhere for a long time.

I don't think Apple would be stupid enough to delete iTunes as a whole, but deleting the store makes sense, at least for the music section

Yeah I still use my mp3s, too, though I also stream. I just have a lot on my laptop/iTunes that isn’t available on Spotify. Is it easy to somehow put mp3s on my Spotify? I also like that I can organize my music how I want in iTunes/on my laptop.

Hot 100 Chart Moves: Selena Gomez's 'Back to You' Hits Top 40, Maroon 5's 'Girls Like You' Debuts News By Gary Trust | June 05, 2018 12:28 PM EDT
Plus, Jennifer Lopez's 'Dinero' launches.
Selena Gomez's "Back to You" bumps into the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated June 9), rising from No. 46 to No. 38. The track, from the 13 Reasons Why, Season 2 soundtrack, which rises 34-29 on the Billboard 200, is Gomez's 20th top 40 Hot 100 hit and her 15th in a row, as all 15 songs that she has sent to the chart beginning with "Love You Like a Love Song" in 2011 have hit the top 40. In that span, she has charted her first seven top 10s, led by the No. 5 hits "Good for You," featuring A$AP Rocky, and "Same Old Love," in 2015-16.
In that stretch, Gomez's streak of 15 consecutive top 40 Hot 100 hits is the longest active run of any artist.
"Back" lifts 49-29 on the Digital Song Sales chart (12,000 sold, up 20 percent, in the tracking week, according to Nielsen Music); 48-45 on Radio Songs (25.2 million in airplay audience, up 21 percent); and 50-49 on Streaming Songs (10.9 million U.S. streams, up 5 percent). The song should surge further following the June 5 arrival of its proper official video.
As previously reported, Drake's "Nice for What" rules the Hot 100 for a sixth total week; Lil Baby and Drake take over atop the Streaming Songs chart with "Yes Indeed," which holds at its No. 6 Hot 100 high; Cardi B, Bad Bunny and J Balvin return to the Hot 100's top 10 with "I Like It," at a new No. 7 peak, following the premiere of its official video; Drake's "I'm Upset" launches at No. 19; and, Pusha T debuts four songs on the survey. In even more Hot 100 chart moves:
"Tequila," Dan + Shay The country duo earns its first top 40 Hot 100 hit, as "Tequila" rises 44-37. On Hot Country Songs, where it's the act's fifth top 10, the track pushes 5-4. Dan + Shay previously reached a No. 42 Hot 100 high with its breakthrough single "19 You + Me" in 2014.
"Dinero," Jennifer Lopez feat. DJ Khaled & Cardi B After the May 24 premiere of the official for the song, which Lopez and DJ Khaled performed on the Billboard Music Awards May 20, it enters the Hot 100 at No. 80, up 69 percent to 6.9 million U.S. streams in the week ending May 31. Lopez makes her first Hot 100 visit since July 2016, when her charity single with Lin-Manuel Miranda, "Love Make the World Go Round," charted for a week at No. 72. As for more Cardi B …
"Girls Like You," Maroon 5 feat. Cardi B The song, originally available on Maroon 5's 2017 album Red Pill Blues by the band solo and released May 30 as a single featuring Cardi B, enters the Hot 100 at No. 94, powered by its No. 12 start on Digital Song Sales (19,000). Its star-studded video (here is a rundown of all the women in the clip), also released May 30, further sparks the song's 2,212 percent blast to 3.9 million U.S. streams.

Drake's 'I'm Upset' Debuts in Billboard Hot 100's Top 20 News By Xander Zellner | June 05, 2018 10:34 AM EDT
The song is one of six by Drake currently in the top 20, a feat that only Post Malone, J. Cole and The Beatles previously achieved. Drake scores the highest debut of the week on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated June 9), as "I'm Upset" launches at No. 19. The song earns Drake his 164th career Hot 100 entry, extending his record for the most among soloists. It's his 46th top 20 hit and his 74th to reach the top 40. Only Elvis Presley has more top 20 (48) and top 40 entries (80).
With the arrival of "I'm Upset," Drake occupies six spots in the Hot 100's top 20. As previously reported, "Nice for What" tallies its sixth week at No. 1; "God's Plan" holds at No. 3; "Yes Indeed," with Lil Baby, repeats at No. 6; BlocBoy JB's "Look Alive," on which Drake is featured, is steady at No. 12; and Migos' "Walk It Talk It," on which Drake is also featured, keeps at No. 14. In the Hot 100's 59-year history, only three artists have charted at least six songs in the top 20 simultaneously: Post Malone (a record nine) four weeks ago; J. Cole (six) five weeks ago; and The Beatles (six) for two straight weeks in 1964.
"I'm Upset" concurrently starts at No. 10 on the Hot Rap Songs chart, where it's Drake's record-extending 68th top 10. (Lil Wayne follows with 45.) The track is rumored to be on Drake's upcoming project likely due later this month, expected to be titled Scorpion.

Pusha T Debuts Four Songs From New Album 'Daytona' on Billboard Hot 100 News By Xander Zellner | June 05, 2018 10:29 AM EDT
Led by 'Infrared,' the tracks are his first on the Hot 100 in four years.
Pusha T celebrates his highest-charting album on the Billboard 200 (dated June 9), as DAYTONA debuts at No. 3 with 77,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music, and the Bronx rapper, 41, concurrently lands four tracks on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, where he makes his first appearances in four years.
"Infrared" has the highest debut of the four on the Hot 100, at No. 65, followed by "If You Know You Know" at No. 73, "What Would Meek Do?" featuring Kanye West at No. 75, and "The Games We Play" at No. 100. (Notably, Pusha T earns his first three unaccompanied entries on the Hot 100.)
Here’s a look at Pusha T's previous entries on the Hot 100, in chronological order: Title, Artist(s), Peak Position, Peak Date "Runaway," Kanye West feat. Pusha T, No. 12, Oct. 23, 2010 "Mercy," Kanye West, Big Sean, Pusha T & 2 Chainz, No. 13, Aug. 4, 2012 "New God Flow," Pusha T & Kanye West, No. 89, Aug. 11, 2012 "Move That Doh," Future feat. Pharrell, Pusha T & Casino, No. 46, May 10, 2014 All four new tracks concurrently debut on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, where "Infrared" opens at No. 32, followed by "Know" (No. 35), "Meek" (No. 37) and "Games" (No. 50).
Meanwhile, "Meek" marks West's 84th entry on the Hot 100, and third in 2018. He's in line to launch at No. 1 on next week's Billboard 200 with his new album, Ye. As previously reported, Drake's "Nice for What" spends a sixth total week at No. 1 on the Hot 100.

Sorry I wasn't clearer on that. iTunes will still exist, but the store will be phased out in favor of Apple Music Streaming.

Although the download writing is on the wall, I also feel that it then won't be long before the iTunes interface goes away or things stop functioning once there are a series of updates.
(I've lived through this too many times before. You can still find blank VHS tapes out there somewhere, but good luck getting a VCR…. etc, etc , etc)

They said likely it was system malfunction. But I already sent them a note suggesting we may be talking refunds on perhaps thousands of dollars of purchases if access is not restored(not just music, also includes movies)

Not being able to purchase music will suck for DJs too. Illegal downloading will be the only way to hear music in any other form than "put on a playlist in the background".

Lil Baby & Drake's 'Yes Indeed' Hits No. 1 on Streaming Songs Chart
News
By Kevin Rutherford | June 05, 2018 3:36 PM EDT lil baby drake
The song’s No. 1 ascent comes a week after it began ruling the On-Demand Streaming Songs list.
A week after ascending to No. 1 on Billboard’s On-Demand Streaming Songs chart, Lil Baby and Drake’s “Yes Indeed” assumes the lead of the overall Streaming Songs chart, dated June 9.
“Indeed” rises 2-1 with 37.6 million streams (in the tracking week ending May 13) in its third week on the ranking, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 26.9 million comes from on-demand audio streams, allowing the song to hold its No. 1 ranking on On-Demand Streaming Songs for a second week in a row.
It’s worth pointing out that despite its lead on Streaming Songs, “Indeed” is not actually the most-streamed song in the country this week. That distinction goes to Drake’s “Nice for What,” which narrowly edges “Indeed” with 37.9 million streams. “Indeed” leads on Streaming Songs due to the chart's separate weighting of on-demand streams vs. programmed streams (services such as Pandora). “Nice” is instead No. 2 on Streaming Songs.
“Indeed” marks Drake’s fifth No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart, which pulls him out of a two-way tie with Justin Bieber for most No. 1s in the chart’s history (it began in 2012). Three of those No. 1s have occurred in 2018.
Meanwhile, it’s Lil Baby’s first No. 1 on Streaming Songs, and it’s also his first-charting title. As such, while he isn’t the first artist to land their first No. 1 on the chart in 2018 (Childish Gambino, the chart’s previous leader, did so with “This Is America” and Camila Cabello did so with “Havana” featuring Young Thug, who also scored his first No. 1 via the featured credit), he’s the first to do so with their first charting song this year. The previous act to do so? Cardi B, with “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves),” beginning in September 2017.
Concurrently, “Indeed” holds at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, which blends radio airplay, digital sales and streaming, for a second week.

I also like that I can organize my music how I want in iTunes/on my laptop. People have already found out ways to extract songs from streaming: stream-ripping is apparently a very big thing, which I only found out about recently myself. And I guess this type of illegal activity hasn't become moot because of course you still have to pay for the higher tier conveniences of streaming and be subjected to other inconveniences like ads, etc. It seems like the only way for illegal to become moot and for everyone to just resort to legal streaming is for legal to have all the conveniences, or even better than, illegal, which hasn't happened yet and might never happen. As for transferring your iTunes mp3s to Spotify (or other streaming services/lockers) I'm not sure, but unless they are really obscure artists/songs, a lot of them are probably also available on those streaming services, so you wouldn't need to transfer them from iTunes (unless the slightly higher quality and the permanence of owning those songs is really important to you).
