We're typing in Georgia font, and there's a good chance that you know what that means...THE UPDATE IS ALL THAT'S LEFT! It's time for the fourth installment of the Red-approved rock chart rankdown B-B-B-B-BALLOT UPDATE! Pipa, Sambalada, and alexcuse are the next three contestants on The Rankdown Is Right! How did these rankings help to shape the current state of rankdown affairs? Oh man, it's coming on fast! DUCK!
Some stats to consider: - Two songs continue to hang out in the top ten after every ranking. looks over my notes Yep, same exact statement as last update. One of the songs did return to the top five at the end of the update, however. - The #1 position has not changed since the last update, but, for the first time in a while, its lead over #2 is starting to shrink. #1 has a nearly 30 point lead over #2, but the most significant change is the gap between #2 and #3: Nearly ninety points separates #2 and #3. Here's a stat for you: #3 is closer to #17 than it is to #2. - #3 and #4 are separated by just two points, meanwhile, and the gap between #3 and #10 is just 30 points. It's anyone's ballgame right now...well, below the top two, anyway. - The current gap between #10 and #11 is a little closer this time, with 12 points separating the two songs at those positions currently. - The song that I was referring to in the last update that was struggling has hopped into the top 30. Fittingly, it is right below the song that I mentioned was struggling earlier in the rankdown. - Big changes have been happening in the bottom ten. One of the bottom four constants escaped at one point, meaning that just three songs have been in every bottom ten now. - Two of those three songs remain the bottom two, but something changed for the first time in a long time: They weren't the bottom two the entire update, as one song briefly moved into the #99 spot and is in a dogfight with the previous #99 for that spot. - Both of the bottom two songs in the previous update finally cracked 100 points in this update. Meanwhile, the situation is suddenly dire for #100, as #99 is over 50 points ahead of #100 now. #100 is also almost 170 points behind #90, so things are...not looking good for it right now. - LET'S TALK STANDARD DEVIATIONS! Big changes are happening in the highest standard deviation department, as we have two new songs in the top two highest SD spots. Those two songs are the songs currently at #44 and #46. We also have two new lowest standard deviations, but we've mentioned these two songs before in the previous update. The current lowest can be found all the way up at #2, while the second-lowest is on the opposite end of the rankdown at #97. - And what would a ballot update be without Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...

How does this keep happening? For the fourth straight update, it is time to SOUND THE ALARM! The top ten tie this time can be found at #6. We also have ties at #31, #61, and #66. No deep breath needed this time.

We're typing in Georgia font, and I wasn't expecting to do two of these in one day...SHOW ME HOW TO BALLOT UPDATE! It's time for the fifth installment of the Red-approved rock chart rankdown B-B-B-B-BALLOT UPDATE! This time, janinho, Geometrical, and lyhom take their turns on the Ballot Update Carousel. How did these three wielders of the ranking impact the rankdown? Move along, there's nothing to see here...except ballot updates...
Some stats to consider: - A big change in the "top ten constant" department kicks us off, as one of the last two remaining top ten constants fell out for the first time during the course of this update. It's still hanging out in and around the top ten, however. The lone remaining constant is still in the top five. - The #1 position has not changed since the last update, but its lead continues to shrink over #2: Eighteen points separates the top two. At one point, it was even less of a gap, with ten points separating the two behemoths. Perhaps more importantly, #2 is now over a full ranking ahead of #3. #3 is closer to #14 than it is to #2. - #7 and #11 are separated by just seven points. - The two struggling songs are still hovering around the top 30...for now. - The three remaining bottom ten constants from the previous update have still yet to escape the bottom ten. Two of those three songs remain in the bottom three. - I say "bottom three", because #99 has suddenly become a "battle". Just one point separates #98 and #99. Things are looking dire for #100, however, as it is now over 80 points behind #99 and well over 200 points behind #90. - WE'RE TALKING STANDARD DEVIATIONS, HIGH AND LOW! Two songs that are no strangers to high standard deviations occupy the top two highest standard deviations currently, hanging out at #41 and #38, respectively. Meanwhile, the two lowest standard deviations stayed the same...literally, as the songs at #2 and #97 from the previous update can still be found...at #2 and #97. - And what would a ballot update be without Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...

History has to have been made, as, for the fifth consecutive update, we must SOUND THE ALARM! The top ten tie this time can be found at the bottom of the top ten, at #10. We also have ties at #65, #68, #80, #87, and #94.

I just turned in my list. I take it back. This year probably was the best year for me that we've had yet. I ranked eight songs 5/5. I rated six of them 5/5 in the 2004 Alt. Rankdown. 5/5 - 8 songs 4.5/5 - 10 songs 4/5 - 18 songs 3.5/5 - 30 songs 3/5 - 28 songs 2.5/5 - 2 songs 2/5 - 3 songs 1.5/5 - 1 song 1/5 - 0 songs and yes, as always, I did rank some songs that some of you love near the bottom. Some of you probably tanked some of the songs that I chose at the top. Just remember, it's a message... board... rankdown. No need to have this send you to a therapist because someone else doesn't agree with your musical preferences. Looking forward to the results to come soon

We're typing in Georgia font, and that can only mean one thing...SEEING BALLOT UPDATE AGAIN! It's time for the sixth installment of the Red-approved rock chart rankdown B-B-B-B-BALLOT UPDATE! This time, Doc Indie Party Rock, American Idiot, and Az Paynter are taking their chance at the Wheel of Ballot Updates. How will their spins impact the rankdown as a whole? Let's see if one of them goes bankrupt...
Some stats to consider: - One big thing happened during the course of this update at the very top. For the first time in over ten rankings, we had a new #1 at one point, taken out by the previous #2. By the end of the update, though, the two songs would switch back to their long-time positions in the top two and remain that way. #1's current lead over #2 is a mere 14 points. - The gap between #2 and #3 did shrink, with #2 now only having an 80 point lead over #3. #3 is closer to #7 than it is to #2, which...is an improvement over the last update for the rest of the rankdown. #3 does hold a 100 point lead over #10 and a near 100 point lead over #9, however. - One top ten constant remains still, and it's still in the top five. Not much to add about this one. - #8 is just two points ahead of #9, while the gap between #10 and #11 is just nine points. - One of the "struggling songs" now looks to be in prime position to enter the top 20. The other continues to hover around the bottom of the top 30. - One song is starting to make big moves up the rankdown, entering the top 30 for the first time. Another song, meanwhile, has entered the bottom ten for the first time in this update. - One of the three bottom ten constants finally moved out of the bottom ten after being on the brink of leaving the bottom ten for a while. Only two bottom ten constants remain, and "surprise, surprise", they're the bottom two. - #98 and #99 remain close, with #98 holding a slim four point lead over #99. They're both well ahead of #100, though. How "well ahead"? #99 is now over 130 points ahead of #100. #100 is also over 300 points behind #90. I think it's looking pretty clear what the #100 is going to be... - THE STANDARD DEVIATIONS ARE COMING! Some changes have occurred over the course of this ballot update to the standard deviation department, though two songs that are no strangers to having high standard deviations are the current top two in that department. Those two songs can be found at #31 and #23. The two lowest, meanwhile, can be found at the bottom of the rankdown: #97 and #100. - And what would a ballot update be without Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...

Sadly, the alarm finally catches a break with this ballot update, with no need to be sounded. But there are still ties to be had, and they can be found at #29, #39, #42, and #94.

It's a wonderful feeling rediscovering songs you hadn't heard in years. There's one song on this list in particular that I hadn't heard since 2003; it randomly popped into my head a couple years ago, and I tried to find out what it was, but I wasn't successful. Now, 15 years after first hearing it, I finally know what it is.

We're typing in Georgia font, and that means that something is about to happen...THIS IS (maybe, maybe not) THE LAST BALLOT UPDATE! It's time for the seventh installment of the Red-approved rock chart rankdown B-B-B-B-BALLOT UPDATE! This time, rowellfarm490, Lordef†ones, and Blurry are the three contestants looking to Press Their Ballot Update Luck! How will their luck affect the ranking? Let's see if someone pulls a whammy...
Some stats to consider: - #1 stabilized a bit during the course of this ballot update, now a full 50+ points clear of its long-running rival at #2. There's still time for this to change, of course, but it does look like these two songs will be fighting it out near the end for the top spot. - Why do I feel confident about the top two being there at the end? It could be because #2 is now over 120 points ahead of #3. In fact, #3 is once again closer to a song outside of the top ten (#15, to be exact) than #2. #3 is also only ahead of #4 by three points. - Small gaps are a big factor in this top ten, as #5 leads #6 by only six points, #8 leads #9 by a single point, #10 leads #11 by only two points, and #10 leads #13 by just six points. It's anyone's ball game below the top two. - One top ten constant remains still, and it's still in the top five. Not much to add about this one. - Both of the "struggling songs" had a good update, with one breaking through into the top twenty. - The surging song in the previous update hit a bit of a snag, as it stumbled back out of the top 30...for now. - The same bottom ten constants remain in the bottom ten, and they remain very low in the ranking. The battle for #99 remains tightly contested, with #98 and #99 separated by 13 points. - As for #100, well...it's pretty much a lost cause for the song now. #99 is now over 200 points ahead of #100. The gap between #90 and #100 is over 400 points now. Welp... - STANDARD DEVIATION STATION! No real changes to the highest or lowest standard deviation songs, though their positions have changed in most of the cases. The highest standard deviations can be found at #28 and #32, while the lowest are at #96 and #100. - And what would a ballot update be without Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...

The ties are starting to become less and less common as more people submit, but there are still two ties to be found, located at #45 and #80.

So, we're getting pretty close to the deadline now...how about a survey? What songs could be in the top ten? (If you're bold, you can even predict the #1) What songs could be in the bottom ten? (If you're bold, you can even predict the #100) What songs could have the highest standard deviations? What songs could have the lowest standard deviations? What songs could positively surprise? What songs could negatively surprise?
Which Chevelle song will perform the best: Send the Pain Below or The Red? Which Coldplay song will perform the best: Clocks or The Scientist? Which Foo Fighters song will perform the best: Times Like These, All My Life, or Low? Which Saliva song will perform the worst: Always or Rest in Pieces? Which The Used song will perform the best: Buried Myself Alive, Blue and Yellow, or The Taste of Ink?

What songs could be in the top ten? (If you're bold, you can even predict the #1) Essentially guarantees: Both QOTSA songs, Seven Nation Army, at least one Coldplay song, Like A Stone. Next-best chances: a Foo Fighters song (All My Life? would prefer Low though), a Red Hot Chili Peppers song (probably Can't Stop but, again, would prefer Dosed), the other Coldplay song, Girl's Not Grey. Other outside hunches: 12:51, A Praise Chorus, Way Away. Songs that have the support to make top 10 but will more likely get screwed over in the 25-11 set: Minerva, There There, You Know You're Right, The Red What songs could be in the bottom ten? (If you're bold, you can even predict the #100) Essentially guarantees: St. Anger, Eat You Alive, Price to Play, Drowning, a Taproot song. Next-best chances: A P.O.D. song, Straight Out of Line, My Goddess, Bottom of a Bottle, Liberate, Crazy Beat, a Socialburn song. Other outside hunches: Running From Me, a Cold song (maybe Stupid Girl), Diamonds & Guns (it shouldn't but Transplants have been 100 before), Weathered What songs could have the highest standard deviations? Bring Me To Life, Lose Yourself, Someday, What It Is to Burn, Headstrong What songs could have the lowest standard deviations? Go With The Flow, Like A Stone, a couple of the bottom 10 candidates I mentioned earlier, The Horizon Has Been Defeated, Honestly

What songs could be in the top ten? (If you're bold, you can even predict the #1) I'm thinking No One Knows is #1. as for the rest, let's go with Seven Nation Army, Like a Stone, Lose Yourself, Clocks, All My Life, Somewhere I Belong, The Red, Times Like These, and Faint What songs could be in the bottom ten? (If you're bold, you can even predict the #100) so there's no way Eat You Alive isn't #100. for the rest of the bottom 10, let's go with Bottom of a Bottle, St. Anger, Straight Out of Line, Suffocate, Drowning, Poem, My Goddess, Running From Me, and one of the Socialburn songs What songs could have the highest standard deviations? Lose Yourself, Bring Me to Life, The Anthem, Swing Swing, What It Is to Burn, Signals Over the Air What songs could have the lowest standard deviations? Like a Stone, Eat You Alive, Honestly, Save You, Just Because What songs could positively surprise? Dosed i think could surprise, along with Honestly, Way Away, 12:51 (these last two are just because how the bands did in 04), and Try Honesty What songs could negatively surprise? could see Show Me How to Live underperforming for sure, and maybe Send the Pain Below

Okay, so I just found out that I'm going to need to wake up early tomorrow morning. The current deadline hour will not work for me, because I will get a couple hours of sleep, at most, if I stick to that hour. I'm waiting on one ranking in particular. When it is submitted, I'm closing the rankdown for submissions. It's another inconvenience that I was looking to avoid, but life has decided to throw me some curveballs this month, lol.
If you are still looking to submit, you need to let me know now.

I just noticed, you didn't ask about which Evanescence song will finish higher. Unless we're just taking it for granted BMTL > GU?

We should be starting momentarily. I need to eat first.

just to get this on my participated bar:
Which Chevelle song will perform the best: Send the Pain Below or The Red? (have a feeling "send the pain below" might be one of their worst performers tbh lol) Which Coldplay song will perform the best: Clocks or The Scientist? Which Foo Fighters song will perform the best: Times Like These, All My Life, or Low? Which Saliva song will perform the worst: Always or Rest in Pieces? (I feel like "always" might have a few high rankers, while "rest in pieces" won't have many people ranking it high at all) Which The Used song will perform the best: Buried Myself Alive, Blue and Yellow, or The Taste of Ink?

So this post is probably going to be completely buried underneath the rankdown, but here's this year's list of Mediabase-only extras (for Alt): (don't worry about the "points", that's irrelevant) I definitely would have ranked "The Seed 2.0", "Stop", "Lyric", "Lapdance", "Cute Without the E", and "Molly's Chambers" high on my list. Meanwhile, feel free to discuss any songs here you would have ranked high.
