this isn't good at all but it isn't awful, there's some songs that should've outlasted this
(granted this would be slightly better if john pod didn't perpetually sound like that one christian summer camp counselor who's trying too hard to be cool lmao)

#97 also did not start out in the bottom ten, just as "Will You" started outside of the bottom ten. Like "Will You", though, it would also quickly find its way into the bottom five. In fact, this song spent a significant amount of time at #99, pretty much this rankdown's last place that doesn't factor in "Eat You Alive". It would spend the last eight rankings at #97.
We will see two posters lose a top half ranking with the reveal of #97, and one is a low top 25 ranking. Twelve posters will also lose a bottom ten ranking, eight of those being a lowly bottom five. However, for the first time all rankdown, we will not see a #100 ranking here.

Right band, wrong song.
The last time we saw Taproot in an Alt rankdown, they escaped the bottom 30. Oh, how times have changed...97

Hopefully Butterfly gets out this early in 2001 Alt. fixed Far as I'm concerned, it wasn't broken. EDIT: I wanted to like 'Mine' 'cause it did have some cool harmonies in parts, but the song as a whole was kinda creepy 'cause the lyrics read as problematically possessive.

None of the songs tonight have a top ten highest standard deviation, but #96 is the reveal that comes closest. This song had a rocky road, starting out in the bottom ten and staying there early. It did escape the bottom ten for a couple of rankings, but it found itself back in the bottom ten before too long, spending twelve of the last fourteen rankings at this very spot.
Six posters will feel the sting of an early top half loss at #96. Only one poster loses a top 25 ranking, but it's a high one, just missing out on losing a top ten ranking this early. There are a lot of bottom tens, though...seventeen, to be exact. Almost all of those bottom tens are bottom fives, and we'll see multiple #100 rankings fall, as well.

SAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIINT AYYYNGUUUUUUUHHHHHHHH What I love about this song is that the song sounds like a poor-quality rip of the song throughout its entirety. But that's not the case. It's just a byproduct of very, very poor production.YOU FLUSH IT OUT, YOU FLUSH IT OUT96

This sounded like a bunch of kids hearing Metallica for the first time, then getting in their parents' garage and jamming out with used instruments they bought off of Craigslist, but they didn't have any musical talent.
This was bad.

I think I only put this one high because I was getting sick of listening through the playlist and just saw that it was by Metallica without listening to it. So I guess that this is how you always do Rankdowns.....

an absolute mess.
the trashcan drums. the "SAYYYNT ANGUUUUH" sung slightly late with the tune, "YOU FLUSH IT OUT, FLUSH IT OUT", "f**k IT ALL f**kin NO REGRETS", the fact that it goes on for seven minutes despite only being made up of like 10 lines and basic instrumentals, just lmao.

#95 is decidedly less controversial than #96. It's also a band that we have ranked before. This particular song did not stay in any set area for long, bouncing in and out of the bottom ten multiple times. It did finally settle into the bottom ten late, however, eventually returning to its lowest spot.
Five posters lose a top half ranking at #95, but none are top 25 rankings...though at least one ranking gets too close for comfort. Ten more posters will also lose a bottom ten ranking, and while six of those rankings are bottom fives, none are #100 rankings. At least one person who ranked "St. Anger" high will be happier with this reveal, while at least one person who ranked "St. Anger" low will not be as happy.

So I guess that this is how you always do Rankdowns..... I've heard a couple of things about people doing things they shouldn't in the rock rankdowns. Even I listen to songs I know I'm gonna hate from artists I reaaaaaally don't like 'cause jeez, heaven forbid I actually play the game properly...

Well, damn, looks like I'm getting some backlash for my comment, which was a joke. In reality, I did listen to the song in full, and I did legitimately like it at the time, even though I have since changed my mind. I'm sorry if it sounded like I didn't care about the rankdown.

Didn’t the St. Anger album actually get good music reviews too? It’s funny because it’s easily the bands lowest moment. Even still though, I couldn’t put them in bottom 25 territory. Maybe I went easy on them.

Didn’t the St. Anger album actually get good music reviews too? It’s funny because it’s easily the bands lowest moment. Even still though, I couldn’t put them in bottom 25 territory. Maybe I went easy on them. From critics: "While it's an ungodly mess at times, what you hear on this album is a band playing with passion for the first time in years." "It may be too late to rehabilitate Metallica's image, but once again, their music is all about bringing the carnage." "...punishing, unflinching document of internal struggle—taking listeners inside the bruised yet vital body of Metallica, but ultimately revealing the alternately torturous and defiant demons that wrestle inside Hetfield's brain. St. Anger is an immediate record." "No wonder there's an authenticity to St. Anger's fury that none of the band's rap-metal followers can touch." From me: "this (and the rest of the singles) was sh it."
