Late to the game on this one. Here's a few that I can still answer
1) What will be #1? You Look So Good in Love
4) What song will be most polarizing? Least polarizing?
Least - YLSGIL Most - 80 Proof Bottle Of Tear Stopper
7) Where will each of the #1 singles finish? (You Look So Good In Love, Right Or Wrong, Let's Fall To Pieces Together) (Lmao on this album it's all of them!)
You Look So Good In Love - 1, Right Or Wrong - 3, Let's Fall To Pieces Together -5
9) Any other thoughts/predictions?
This is a hard album to guess. I liked it but I enjoyed Strait From the Heart a lot better. And don't get me started on the album cover (I've seen better)

The hint of course was Luke Combs, who just had a huge hit recently with "When It Rains It Pours". Luke's song is, of course, vastly superior to George's in every way I'm sorry to say... Luke's song is a well fleshed-out story, filled with a twist of celebratory irony, whereas George's is just a laundry list of how life isn't going well, full of things that are just stereotypically bad rather than actually being realistic. Granted, it does have a catchy melody, which I am sure is what helped it receive a top 5 vote from nearly half the participants! castleoblivion26 and Cody Wants Out... both lose their #10, however, which worked to hold this one back short of the top 5. #6 is 9 points ahead, while "You're The Cloud I'm On" was a whole 15 points behind, so this song was very solidly mired at #7.

I probably would have ranked "Every Time It Rains (Lord Don't It Pour)" higher two years ago, but Luke Combs came along and after living with the This One's For You album for a year and a half, I've heard the same concept a lot from Luke in "When It Rains It Pours"... so George's isn't as novel as it would have been not that long ago!

Believe it or not, we actually have a tie for #6 and #5! The reason #5 won the tie is because it is the song where our #1 losses begin

I used to like to spend the night Sittin’ on an old barstool. Drinkin’ wine and killin’ time With all of those other fools. But since she took my hand, I think I understand It ain’t the way it oughta be. Since I’ve been holdin’ an angel, A little Heaven’s rubbin’ off on me.

I have always liked the premise of this song. George actually has a few songs throughout his career comparing the one he loves to Heaven, and I always think it is a great theme for a song. Unfortunately, this one is probably my least favorite of those songs. The melody is just not very pleasurable to me. I probably underranked it, looking back, but this album was pretty hard for me to rank because so few of the album tracks are true standouts to me.

I’ve always really liked “Every Time It Rains (Lord Don’t It Pour)” but not surprised to see it out already...it’s one of my early childhood jams though! Oh and the song was of course written by record producer Keith Stegall.

Fifteen years together, We climbed by work and will From a simle two-room cottage To a mansion on a hill. Now there’s roses in the garden, But it’s the coldest place in town. It took fifteen years goin’ up, But one night comin’ down.

"Fifteen Years Going Up" manages to sneak into the top 5 by way of .indulgecountry's #1 rank! Ironically enough, the song that lost the tie, "A Little Heaven's Rubbing Off On Me", was .indulgecountry's #2 "Fifteen Years Going Up" has always been one of the stronger songs from the album imo, so I am perfectly happy seeing it be the second-highest album track, placing in the top 5! The whole song is very simple, but it tells a good story. The premise is unique, which imo gives it a lot of brownie points, and the melody is one of the strongest on the album.

Let’s Fall To Pieces Together - 4 80 Proof Bottle Of Tear Stopper -3 Right Or Wrong -2 You Look So Good In Love - 1 (unless the Rams/Saints officials are refereeing this one and if that is the case, who knows...)
Pleasantly surprised that 80 proof did so well.

No surprises as I think I pretty much thought this would be the final four. “You Look So Good In Love” still looks safe for the win while #2 will be either “Let’s Fall to Pieces Together” or the album track “80 Proof Bottle of Tear Stopper”. That leaves “Right or Wrong” which I think will probably leave first.

Bowing out at #4, we say goodbye to the title track, which is also the first single from this album to leave us. It was a #1 hit for George, continuing the momentum that came from lead single "You Look So Good In Love" being such a huge smash hit. Over time, I feel like this one has been a bit overshadowed by his other huge hits from this time in his career; I don't think I have ever heard this song on the radio, whereas songs like "You Look So Good In Love", "Amarillo By Morning", "The Chair", etc. have made appearances on the radio throughout my life. Tbh, this has always been one of my least favorites of George's #1s. I know that this is a Texas swing standard, and he definitely does a very solid cover of it. But the melody is just very dissonant, and the entire song is just the same verse twice, which is very boring. Out of all the covers of it, his is my favorite, but compared to his usual output this one just doesn't stand out. That being said, I can totally understand why others might love it! The Texas Swing style just has seldom been my favorite aspect of George. My favorite was when he cranked out modern '90s neo-traditional stompers, a la "Blue Clear Sky" or "Check Yes Or No" "Right Or Wrong" was a huge wildcard for this rankdown. I had no idea where it would finish, and for awhile it appeared likely to miss the top 5 altogether. A wave of love came for it in the second half of the submissions, however, with several people putting it in their top 3. It was enough to propel it forward. It was never in position to try overtaking the other singles, but it definitely finished a lot closer to them than it looked like it would early on!

"Right Or Wrong" is definitely the weakest of the singles from this album, but still pretty damn amazing. I love George's vocals on it and the quirky arrangement! So much fun to sing to!

"Right or Wrong" is one that I always enjoy listening to as it never fails to get me swinging and singing along with and I think George sounds great on this! You never really know what George song you're going to hear on Texas radio (I've heard everything from "West Texas Town" to "Overnight Male" to "Honky Tonk Crazy"), but there's a local Austin station that spins this one every now and then.

You ain’t never fell as far as when you fall in love. ‘Cept the fall you take when you’ve been loved and given up. When you have your heart and soul rubbed into the dirt, An 80 proof bottle of tear stopper will take away the hurt.

Ugh, that trajectory graph says it all :'( This song was #1 for essentially 3/4 of the submission process... It was running away with it too, while people unanimously loved it and couldn't decide which single to tank harder! Unfortunately, a few late-game haters tanked this one completely out of the top 2 (and almost completely out of the top 3!), allowing us to have a boring, super predictable top 2 between the two biggest hits of the album... I was SO happy we were on pace to finally have an album track win one of these things! Thanks a lot, LBTrocks...

Also, I just have to say, "80 Proof Bottle of Tear Stopper" has got to be in the running for my favorite of all George's album tracks from the '80s This song has quite possibly the most infectious melody I have ever heard! It fills me with so much jubilant life every time I hear it! I am so glad it managed to be the highest album track by quite a large margin! It was the only album track that held its own against the huge hits on this album, inserting itself betwixt them with no trouble whatsoever The iconicness!

Good. I love this song but it being a #1 contender is a little baffling to me, lmao. It's such a light, fun, catchy puff of angel-breath! Compared to the singles, that some people are tired of because they were such huge hits (Of course I'm not gonna complain any more, because while "80 Proof" was my #1, my #2 and #3 are still in, so clearly I have no problems seeing these hits do well )

Pardon me; you left your tears on the jukebox, And I’m afraid they got mixed up with mine. I don’t mean to pry; it’s just that I noticed you Goin’ out of your mind. Looks like we’re two of a kind.

I prefer "Let's Fall To Pieces Together" EVER SO SLIGHTLY but that and "You Look So Good In Love" were back-to-back in my list for George's singles RD so obviously both are beyond stellar! Gorgeous country masterpieces!!!!!!!

So there you have it! In a battle of the singles, "You Look So Good In Love" pulled off a handy victory! Honestly, with 8 #1 ranks, this song absolutely deserved to win. It is amazing that "80 Proof Bottle" managed to hang on as long as it did and be as competitive as it did, because YLSGIL performed just about as flawlessly as a #1 contender ever has! As much as I want to see an album track win one of these things, there is no question that that is going to be a difficult task when so many of George's hits are as iconic as they are. And YLSGIL is among the more iconic half of the bunch! Thank you to everyone who participated, commented, followed along, etc.! I had a lot of fun with this set, and I hope you did too! I'll open the next set very soon, with a deadline towards the end of February
