It pained me to put “I’m All Behind You Now” at the bottom because I love the song but it just so happened to be that this is the song that I come back to revisit the least. I had to do give more than a second look back at my list to see if I could move this up one or two positions but I ended up keeping it there.
While I ended up sliding “You Can’t Buy Your Way Out of the Blues” into my #9 position I think that it’s a bit interchangeable depending on my mood and could’ve probably put this last as well. I just enjoy this album so much that I don’t even know if I technically even have a bottom spot for any of the songs lol.
As a kid I remember “My Heart Won’t Wander Very Far From You” being one of my favorite songs from the album and while I don’t think I quite love it as much as I did back then it’s still a fun listen. I really enjoy the tempo of the song and it’s always one I can really get into.
Which means it’s top 5 prediction time!
5. Someone’s Walkin’ Around Upstairs 4. Am I Blue 3. Hot Burning Flames 2. All My Ex’s Live in Texas 1. Ocean Front Property

‘Cause I know someone’s gonna take my place And walk up that ol’ stairway To the room where I walked out on you. Please understand, I couldn’t stay. I see a two-story house, With someone new warmin’ up my bed. Someone’s walkin’ ‘round upstairs, And I can’t get it out of my head.

at .indulgecountry apparently doing all the prediction work for ALL of you flops... And so far you're all wrong! It turns out tim is winning the prediction game so far "Someone's Walkin' Around Upstairs" is perfectly fine and catchy, and I have no explanation for it being my last place. Honestly, the album tracks on this album are more or less interchangeable for me aside from like 2-3 that I really love. I don't outright dislike anything here. My best guess for putting this song in last place is the fact that George's vocals are pretty rough in places. His melisma on the line "laying in my-y-y-y bed" is kinda painful... Lmao. Still, I don't mind the song as a whole!

The next song was a top 3 contender for the entire submission process!!! Until the very last list from collinkottke pushed it out of the top 3 in favor of a song that was literally NEVER a top 3 contender....

She left me almost burned out. I couldn’t feel a thing. A walkin’ talkin’ statue, Afraid to love again. She did everything to kill the flame, But a little spark got through. She’d have got her way, I’d be gone today If it hadn’t been for you.

"Hot Burning Flames" was the obvious choice for highest album track here, so I am pleased to see that we tried our hardest to put it ahead of at least one of the singles! This song has been a longtime fan favorite, and I am assuming it is one of George's favorites as well, because it is the only album track from this album I have ever heard of him doing live... Of course, "Am I Blue" was able to sneak around it at the very last possible second. It was not really in the game from the beginning, which did not really surprise me because it is hardly one of his best-loved singles. I would venture to say that only die-hard fans remember the song, because the other two singles vastly outshine it in the broader country music community. However, it WAS one of his plentiful #1s, so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that it was able to generate its fair share of support! George Strait Junkie even put it at #1 (the first #1 loss we have seen, btw), while a slurry of #3s helped carry it into the #3 spot.

While nobody got all of the predictions in the correct order for the 3-5 positions, y'all seemed to be in agreement about one thing... Which two songs would make up the top two! However, despite picking the correct two songs, there is a split in what we think the winner will be. tim thinks the winner will be "Ocean Front Property". .indulgecountry, gonecountry, and LBTrocks all think the winner will be "All My Ex's". In other words, the vast majority seem to think that "Ex's" will win. Or are they just the vocal minority, and all the people who DIDN'T make predictions will help carry the title track to victory? Stay tuned to find out!

All my ex’s live in Texas, And Texas is a place I’d dearly love to be. But all my ex’s live in Texas, And that’s why I hang my hat in Tennessee.
2. "All My Ex's Live In Texas"
Track #1 Runtime: 3:22 Songwriters: Sanger D. Shafer, Lyndia J. Shafer
Placement in the Singles Rankdown: #25
If you leave me, I won’t miss you, And I won’t ever take you back. Girl, your memory won't ever haunt me, ‘Cause I don’t love you. And now if you’ll buy that,
I got some ocean front property in Arizona. From my front porch, you can see the sea. I got some ocean front property in Arizona. If you’ll buy that, I’ll throw the Golden Gate in free.

There you have it! In the battle of two of his most iconic hits of all time, "Ocean Front Property" was the CLEAR winner. It wasn't even close! At only 19 points, OFP managed to get just shy of half the points that "Ex's" got. However, "Ex's" also managed to get nearly half of what "Am I Blue" got... The point is, while the rest of the album was relatively close together in points, this was the very clear and undisputed top 2. Both songs managed to get nothing but top 5s, but the title track managed to get nothing but top 3s. Simply a remarkable showing for both songs!
Personally, I love both songs, but I really struggled with how to rank them as I find both to be incredibly overplayed and overrated. In the grand scheme of things, "Ex's" is WAY more overplayed, so I am satisfied seeing OFP take this one.
I can totally see why they are both such classics though. These two songs are both brilliant! That chorus to "All My Ex's Live In Texas" is one of the most iconic country choruses of the '80s, while that fiddle line that leads us wistfully through "Ocean Front Property" is immediately recognizable as well. I am never sure how I feel about these songs in the context of George's career, but there is no denying their impact on the entire country genre!

Surprised that Exes didn't win. I have heard that religiously on the radio. OFP, not so much. Glad to see Hot Burning Flames do so well. I was hoping to see it beat Am I Blue.
As far as Somewhere Down in Texas...this is probably my least favorite of his albums so far.
1) What will be #1? To me there is no competition - The Seashores Of Old Mexico. The other two singles don't hold a candle to this
2) What will be #11? High Tone Woman only because there is lot of love for Lee Ann Womak. I personally found Good News, Bad News to be a snoozer
3) Which songs belong in the top 5? The Seashores Of Old Mexico, Texas, If The Whole World Was A Honky Tonk, By The Light Of A Burning Bridge and You'll Be There
4) What song will be most polarizing? Least polarizing? Most: Good News, Bad News Least: She Let Herself Go
5) Which of the singles will place highest? Where will it place? (You'll Be There, She Let Herself Go, The Seashores Of Old Mexico) Seashores at 1
6) Do any of the singles have a chance of missing the top 5? Given our track record, no. If Am I Blue made the Top 5, all his singles will make the Top 5
7) What will be the highest-placing album track? Where will it place? Texas at #3. That would've been a great single
8) Any predictions for which 5 album tracks will place highest, making it into the album tracks rankdown??? Texas, If The Whole World Was A Honky Tonk, By The Light Of A Burning Bridge, Oh What A Perfect Day and Somewhere Down In Texas
9) Any other thoughts/predictions I'm wondering if there will be less agreement on this one? Surprised how weak this album was leading into the phenomenal It Just Comes Natural.

1) What will be #1? "She Let Herself Go"
2) What will be #11? "Ready for the End of the World"
3) Which songs belong in the top 5? All three of the singles "She Let Herself Go", "You'll Be There", "The Seashores of Old Mexico" along with "High Tone Woman" and either "Texas" or the title track
4) What song will be most polarizing? "Good News, Bad News" Least polarizing? "She Let Herself Go"
5) Which of the singles will place highes ad where will it place? "She Let Herself Go" for the win
6) Do any of the singles have a chance of missing the top 5? I think all three of them will be in the top 5
7) What will be the highest-placing album track and where will it place? It's "Texas" or bust!
8) Any predictions for which 5 album tracks will place highest, making it into the album tracks rankdown??? "Somewhere Down in Texas", "High Tone Woman", "If the Whole World Was a Honky Tonk", "By the Light of a Burning Bridge", and "TEXAS"!
9) Any other thoughts/predictions? George often performed High Tone Woman" live on this tour and maybe even for a few years after and it was always one he really got into live so I'm hoping that one does well in this rankdown. I'm also interested to see where "Good News, Bad News" ends up placing because I think it'll end up being a bit polarizing.

1) What will be #1? "She Let Herself Go"
2) What will be #11? "Oh, What a Perfect Day"
3) Which songs belong in the top 5? I expect "She Let Herself Go" and "You'll Be There" are locks. I'll guess that they'll be joined by "Texas," "If the Whole World Was a Honkytonk," and the Lee Ann Womack duet.
4) What song will be most polarizing? Least polarizing? Most: "High Tone Woman" | Least: "She Let Herself Go"
5) Which of the singles will place highest? Where will it place? (You'll Be There, She Let Herself Go, The Seashores Of Old Mexico) "She Let Herself Go" at #1
6) Do any of the singles have a chance of missing the top 5? I believe "The Seashores of Old Mexico" will be bottom 3.
7) What will be the highest-placing album track? Where will it place? "Texas" @ #3?
8) Any predictions for which 5 album tracks will place highest, making it into the album tracks rankdown??? "Texas," "If the Whole World Was a Honkytonk," "Good News/Bad News," "Somewhere Down in Texas," and "By the Light of a Burning Bridge."
9) Any other thoughts/predictions? I find "You'll Be There" overrated and I'm already prepared to be the lowest rank for that one potentially. I hope it doesn't win.

So boy, don’t you saddle yourself to a high-tone woman. She’ll cut up your heart like an old credit card When the fun and the money runs out. I’ve never seen an uptown, well-read, thoroughbred, High-tone woman sink as low as you.

"High Tone Woman" bows out in last place, but it was honestly not a last-place contender for most of the submission process. It seemed likely to finish bottom 3, but not in last. It baaarely managed to squeeze out a defeat by a mere ONE point thanks to the very last list. This song has always really reminded me of a Johnny Cash song in both attitude and style. I really like it in that regard, however I will admit it does not necessarily fit in with the rest of the album. It feels like an outlier. I like it quite a bit, but I can see why it placed where it did here. tim, on the other hand, who predicted a top 5 finish for this one, is bound to be super disappointed! As well as LBTrocks, who already takes a loss to his top 3...

"Oh, What A Perfect Day" got done dirty, imo. It reminds me very much of "Beautiful Day For Goodbye" from the Twang album. The songs are very similar stylistically, even though they are literally about opposite things. (This one being that the weather is bad so it's a perfect day to make love, while the other one is a beautiful day so there's no incentive for her to not leave him... Lol) I like the way George sings the chorus. However, I am guessing people found it to be boring, which is why it was out here.
"Ready For The End Of The World" is a great song, but I am not at all surprised to see it leaving now. Imo it is a great time for it to leave. The semi-apocalyptic lyrics are cool, and then the way the hook reveals that the end of the world will be caused by his wife leaving him is very well done. The only problem with this one is that the melody is veeeeery plod-y (ploddish? Plodding?). It is one I enjoy listening to when it comes on, but I never really seak it out.

Now, you may or may not have noticed that of the three songs revealed so far, NONE of them have spent enough time in the last-place spot to be considered an "obvious last-place contender"... That song is actually coming up next Also, you know how I promised a hot mess? Well, from this point forward, people are going to be disappointed. EVERY remaining song except for one has a #1 rank (and that song made the top 3). So lets take out some #1s for awhile, shall we?
