Top 4 prediction! 4. What's Going On In Your World 3. Hollywood Squares 2. Ace in the Hole 1. Baby's Gotten Good At Goodbye Although #4 and #3 could easily be switched... Won't accept anything else other than this tbh.

Besides, I would MUCH rather have "Angel, Angelina" be the one that gets in. Fixed that for you. But honestly yes I would've much rather preferred "Angel" over "Oh Me". Well fortunately there was a 5-position difference between the songs proving that the group as a whole is more on my side than yours ;)

I got ex’s all across the country, And I owe everybody in town. I got bill collectors a-callin’ me up And lawyers tryin’ to track me down. I’m just one wrong move from the poor house, But I don’t belong in there. I’ve got so many ex’s and owe so much, I oughta be on Hollywood Squares.

Unfortunately "Hollywood Squares" was not able to finish in the top 3, despite tim and Cody Wants Out...'s predictions. I am SO glad to see this finish as the highest album track though!! "Hollywood Squares" is one of the most delightfully pun-tastic songs of George's entire career. Seriously, "I've got so many ex's and owe so much, I oughta be on Hollywood Squares" is one of the most iconic hooks of ANYONE'S careers. This would have made a MUCH better single than "Overnight Nap", and undoubtedly given him a 4th #1 hit off of this album!

Hit bias strikes again. Sad. This deserved to beat at least 1-2 of the remaining singles imo.

"Hollywood Squares" has always been one of my go-to album tracks from BTBN so I'm not surprised to see it so well liked amongst y'all as well. This was also George's first album track to chart on Billboard where it peaked at #67!

Just tell me that you’re happy, And I’ll hang up the phone. Just tell me you don’t need me anymore, And I’ll leave you alone. I just wondered if you had somebody new After all of this time. So, what’s goin’ on in your world?
It sure is lonesome in mine.

"What's Going On In Your World" is iconic, largely because it was one of his #1 hits. That being said, it is wearing on me a little bit through the years. I don't love it nearly as much as I used to. I am okay seeing it finish in the top 3, but agree it might have been nice to see "Hollywood Squares" sneak ahead or something.
"Ace In The Hole" vs. "Baby's Gotten Good At Goodbye"!!!!!!!! A predictable top 2!! But which one's gonna win?!?!?! Stay tuned, winner coming momentarily ;)

You’ve got to learn to play your cards right If you expect to win in life. Don’t put it all on the line for just one roll. You’ve got to have an ace in the hole.
2. "Ace In The Hole"
Track #4 Runtime: 2:39 Songwriters: Dennis Adkins
Placement in the Singles Rankdown: #69
That’s why I’m sittin’ on the front steps, Starin’ down the road Wonderin’ if she’ll come back. This time I don’t know. After she packed, when she looked back There were no tears in her eyes. And that’s got me worried, Thinkin’ maybe my baby’s gotten good at goodbye.

I agree with bboat11 in not loving "What's Going On In Your World" as much as I used to and it's definitely one of his #1 hits that I rarely ever come back around to revisit. That said there's no denying the importance of this song in George's career. And just for the heck of it here he is singing it at the ACM Awards in 1989!

YAS! "Baby's Gotten Good At Goodbye" is one of the first songs that introduced me to George Strait because it was one of the few music videos that he made and I'm so happy for those early memories of CMT! And how ironic that the song that only came in at the last minute of the recording session for this album would go on to become the biggest hit from it.
And an interesting tidbit about "Ace in the Hole" is that George and Jimmy Bowen originally intended to bring in all of the members of the Ace in the Hole Band to record the song on but for whatever reason it didn't work out; they were able to bring them in for a couple songs on the next two albums though. This has long been another favorite of mine and I would've been happy with either one winning.

BTW "Baby's Gotten Good At Goodbye" actually bumped off a Dean Dillon song that George recorded for the album! Not sure if George ever came back around to that song and included it for another album as he's never said which song it was. Anyways off to make some predictions...

1) What will be #1? Probably Living and Living Well
2) What will be #10? I hope it's Stars on the Water
3) Which songs belong in the top 5? The Road Less Traveled, L&LW, Run, DTMYNIL, SLYWAS
4) What song will be most polarizing? Least polarizing? Most polarizing: Good Time Charley's? Least polarizing: L&LW
5) Which of the singles will place highest? Where will it place? (Run, Living And Living Well, She'll Leave You With A Smile) L&LW will place highest. It'll likely win
6) Do any of the singles have a chance of missing the top 5? They absolutely better not
7) What will be the highest-placing album track? Where will it place? DTMYNIL? I put at...well, you'll find out when reveals happen but I mean I placed it high
8) Which album tracks would you prefer to see do the best? I WANT THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED TO WIN. (spoiler alert where I placed it)
9) Any other thoughts/predictions? Congratulations to the winner, L&LW. Single bias but like I placed you high and also you're really a fun bop so like I won't be mad at all

1) What will be #1? The singles will probably be the top 3, but I think "Run" might have this one. Seems to be a favorite.
2) What will be #10? It's between "Good Time Charley's" and "My Life's Been Grand"
3) Which songs belong in the top 5? It'll be the three singles + guessing maybe "Don't Tell Me You're Not in Love" and "The Real Thing"
4) What song will be most polarizing? Least polarizing? Most: "Stars on the Water" | Least: "My Life's Been Grand"
5) Which of the singles will place highest? Where will it place? (Run, Living And Living Well, She'll Leave You With A Smile) "Run" at #1. Maybe "Living Well" could challenge it though.
6) Do any of the singles have a chance of missing the top 5? Nah, I imagine "Smile" will be no lower than #4.
7) What will be the highest-placing album track? Where will it place? "Don't Tell Me You're Not in Love" is my guess w/o knowing anything about how people feel about these album cuts tbh.
8) Which album tracks would you prefer to see do the best? That one, "Stars on the Water," and "The Real Thing" all slayed so those three are ones I'd like to see make the cut for the album tracks future rankdown.

1) What will be #1? “Run”
2) What will be #10? “My Life’s Been Grand” or “Good Time Charley’s”
3) Which songs belong in the top 5? The three singles “Run”, “She’ll Leave You With a Smile”, and “Living and Living Well” along with the title track and either “Stars on the Water” or “Don’t Tell Me Your Not In Love”
4) What song will be most polarizing? “Middle of Nowhere” Least polarizing? “Run”
5) Which of the singles will place highest? Where will it place? "Run" for the win leaving "Living And Living Well" and "She'll Leave You With A Smile" fighting it out for #2
6) Do any of the singles have a chance of missing the top 5? Nope.
7) What will be the highest-placing album track? Where will it place? I'd really love to see the title track come in the top 5 but it might end up being a bit more polarizing than I'm expecting so I'll guess "Don't Tell Me You're Not In Love"
8) Which album tracks would you prefer to see do the best? The title track, "Stars on the Water", "Don't Tell Me You're Not In Love" and "The Real Thing"
9) Any other thoughts/predictions? Coming off a rather disappointing self-titled album from the year before this one really sounded refreshing and gave new life to George's career as he headed into the new millennium.

1) What will be #1? “Run” by a mile
2) What will be #10? “Star's On The Water” (I found the vocal distortion incredibly annoying for a country song) or “Good Time Charley’s” (which I really liked but isn't everyone's thing, especially with the background chatter)
3) Which songs belong in the top 5? “Run”, “She’ll Leave You With a Smile”, and “Living and Living Well” along with the title track and either “The Middle of Nowhere”
4) What song will be most polarizing? “Stars On The Water” Least polarizing? “Run”
5) Which of the singles will place highest? Where will it place? "Run" at #1 "Living And Living Well" and "She'll Leave You With A Smile" fighting it out for #2 (I'm thinking Living will end up at 2)
6) Do any of the singles have a chance of missing the top 5? Not on this album. There's no "Overnight Success" here
7) What will be the highest-placing album track? Where will it place? the title track should be in the top 5
8) Which album tracks would you prefer to see do the best? The title track is my favorite
9) Any other thoughts/predictions? I'm thinking there will be a bit more consensus on this album than others

My life’s been grand. You know I’d write home and tell ‘em, But they wouldn’t believe how good my good luck’s been. And if it ended today, I’ve been all the way. My life’s been grand.

"My Life's Been Grand" is literally one of my least favorite songs that George Strait has ever recorded Which is really weird, because The Road Less Traveled is one of my favorites of his albums! In other words, this was quite possibly the easiest last-place decision I have ever had to make... This song just plods and plods and plods... And sonically it does not fit in with this album at all. I always think of this as being a really dark, modern-sounding album from George. In comparison to such slick, moody moments as "Run" and "The Road Less Traveled", the '60s Frank Sinatra vibe of this song just feels so out of place. I know this is a Merle Haggard song, and undoubtedly means a lot to George because of it, but I can guarantee that Merle has MUCH better songs George could have covered...

"Good Time Charley's" is a catchy uptempo that, similarly to "My Life's Been Grand", just doesn't really match the rest of the album... It succeeds where MLBG fails, however, in that it manages to be an effective counterbalance to the rest of the album rather than just feeling like it doesn't belong (at least in my opinion!). This song is not deep. It is just plain catchy and fun. It is a PERFECT bar song, and in fact is even designed to sound like it is being performed live in a bar. That is all it was ever meant to be; it probably would not have been a good single or anything even though it is fun to listen to. While it is a pleasure to listen to, on an album this strong, it did not need to do much better than this. I'm okay seeing it leave here.

I really love that almost live feeling from "Good Time Charley's" which is why it made my top 6. Counterbalance is the right word for this song.
