"Her Only Bad Habit Is Me" is another one that kinda plods along. I like the lyrics, but have no qualms about seeing it leave in the bottom 2!

"Milk Cow Blues" is a song I have always wanted to like :'( That title is so good, but SO misleading... This song is nothing more than a 8-bar blues head that repeats over and over for nearly 5 minutes, alternating between soloists for the entire song. This was always a classic live staple for George's band back in the first half of his career, and he finally recorded it in the studio for this album due to popular demand. Originally the band performed the full version in the studio (yes, it gets even LONGER!), but the producers were like "Hell no!" and made him edit it down. gardyfan loses his #1 with this reveal, while castleoblivion26 and tim both lose a #4. Not many others of us felt the magic though, especially myself, ClevelandRox, LBTrocks, and taylor is terrified who all put it in last place.

You can turn in your George Strait stan card now If I ever want to hear a jazz combo soloing over an 8-bar blues head on repeat for way too long, I will go check out a local high school or community college. I turn to George Strait for music that doesn't put me to sleep!!!!

For as long as I’ve been going to George’s shows “Milk Cow Blues” has always been a staple, although I think he did stop performing it sometime around 1999 or 2000 as I’m sure by that time his discography was just too much to try and include this song any longer. Even back to when I first heard this album I’ve always loved this song as I could just feel the energy coming from George and how much fun he and the Ace In the Hole Band must’ve had in recording it (yes that’s them even in the studio version!).
That said, I’m just happy y’all didn’t actually throw this into last place so I guess I can be content with not having that happen.

What a shame...I mean this has long been a favorite of George which both he and the band really brought to life in a live show. This has always been one of my favorite songs he did live.

And I guess I’m wrong about George not performing it past 2000 because the Live At Texas Stadium was from 2004 where he performed with Alan and Jimmy Buffett...but it couldn’t have been much longer after that he stopped including it. And it goes without saying that I was at that concert ;)

Hey, I'm in love, I'm in love with a beautiful gal; That's what's the matter with me. Yeah I'm in love, I'm in love with a beautiful gal, But she don't care about me. Hey Lord, I tried and I tried to keep her satisfied,

Tbh, I do not understand why this song is so disliked... Like, I know yodeling isn't everyone's cup of tea, but this song has plenty to offer other than a few yodeled lines. Besides, there is no denying that it takes a lot of talent to do it this well, and it is very nice to see George putting his full range of talents on display!!
It certainly was not the best single choice (In the first 32 years of his career it was the only song to miss the top 20, until "Drinkin' Man" flopped in 2012 and indicated that radio was starting to phase him out, lol), but tbh I don't know what would have done any better. They probably should have just moved on from this album after the 3 big hits, and moved on to Holding My Own a little bit sooner so that one could have had more than 2 hits (if the album was even ready yet, lol. What tf do I know).

So I don’t outright dislike “Lovesick Blues” and if anything George nails the vocals (including the yodeling which doesn’t bother me one bit). That said, it’s just never had much replay value for me and I’m pretty sure I didn’t even know this was a single until late into the 90s when I was researching his discography. MCA had only released four singles two times previously (1982’s Strait From The Heart and 1989’s Beyond The Blue Neon), so why they opted then to go with this when they had a couple of other options is interesting.
Like you mentioned, though, I think they should've just ended the era with three singles and moved onto Holding My Own. I suppose the album just wasn’t ready quite yet (I do remember seeing a clip of George back then mentioning they had just wrapped up the next album in very early ‘92), so that probably explains why no new single was ready.

The two 'blues' songs went out in the wrong order! If they were reversed, I would've had 4 perfect rankings to start off with. :(

Unfortunately, it IS already time for our #6 contender... "Is It Already Time" is by far my favorite album track on this album. The lyrical perspective about a couple growing old together and facing the reality of their ailing bodies and mortality is heartbreaking. The song is rather sparse lyrically, which is its only downfall imo (it has a lot of squandered potential), but that hook hits HARD. Harder than anything else on the album. "And we believed we had forever on our side... Is it already time?" Literally goosebump-inducing.
This song was a fairly regular #5 contender, but proved unable to hang on as it racked up a small handful of bottom 2 ranks that threatened to push it down to #8 here. Fortunately it was able to make a mini comeback at the end! I think this would have found its way back into the top 5 if we had gotten more lists.

I agree with everyone's sentiments regarding "Is It Already Time" and I'm both disappointed and surprised that this missed out on the 5. It received two more last place rankings than I thought it would...that is to say that I didn't think anyone in their right mind would've even thought to put this song in that spot. This really should have been replaced with "Home In San Antone" as I never expected that song to make it this far.
I think the title track will come in at #3, so that leaves the album tracks at #4 and #5 and the two biggest hits in the top 2. With that said, here's my predictions:
5. Home In San Antone 4. I've Convinced Everybody But Me 3. The Chill of An Early Fall 2. You Know Me Better Than That 1. If I Know Me
I will say that the top two could really go either way and I'm only basing this prediction on the fact that "If I Know Me" came just a few positions short of the top 10 in George's artist rankdown.
