Submissions have been constant and hot for Reba and May New Releases... But my inbox for George's rankdowns remains dusty and unused  Deadline is now just 2 and a half weeks away!! The majority of the rankdowns due between now and then have been postponed indefinitely, so I'm really hoping to not extend this :)

just submitted One Step. There were some good songs on there, but it wasn't one of his strongest albums IMO. I did not love two of the three singles. I have a feeling that my ranks may be a bit different from others..

I’m inclined to guess “If I Know Me” since it came out ahead in George’s artist rankdown, but my gut says “You Know Me Better Than That” 2) What will be #10? “Lovesick Blues” or “Milk Cow Blues” 3) Which songs belong in the top 5? Three of the singles are a lock for the top 5 with “If I Know Me” and “You Know Me Better Than That” fighting for the top position followed by the title track at #3; that leaves room for two album tracks and I think it’ll be “Is It Already Time” at #4 and “I’ve Convinced Everybody But Me” at #5 4) What song will be most polarizing? “Milk Cow Blues” Least polarizing? “If I Know Me” 5) Which of the singles will place highest? For sure “Milk Cow Blues” as it’s not only a song that I get really into but has been a staple of George’s career since he started performing in the bars down in Texas back in the late 70s. That said, I’m keeping me expectations very low as I know the love I have for the song isn’t going to be shared amongst the rest of Pulse. 9) Any other thoughts/predictions? I’ve shared this story a couple of times before and anyone that knows me on here knows what an early influence this album was for me. One night my mom and I took a late evening trip to Walmart (I’m 8 years old at this point) and since she knew that I likely didn’t want to wander around the store with her she told me to go to the electronics/music section and pick out one cassette tape as an early Christmas gift. I’m not sure how long I spent there but it had to be close to an hour…anyways she comes back and asks if I had picked out one and in my hand I had George Strait’s Chill of An Early Fall. I can’t remember exactly why I picked that one out, but I’m pretty sure I had seen him recently on the CMA Awards and heard a couple of the songs on the radio that year that must’ve stood out to me. We check out, go home, and for the rest of the night my mom and I put up Christmas decorations with this album playing in the background over and over (back then you had to flip the cassette tape of course). And so began a lifelong journey of many, many wonderful memories

Oh hi, now that I've finished revealing the May New Country rankdown, it's time to dive into this one! "Anything You Can Spare" was, as you can see, in last place for the entire rankdown. Everybody except for LBTrocks had it in their bottom 3, and he at least had it in his bottom half. This song isn't actively bad, but it has never done much for me. The melody and arrangement just kinda plod along. |

"Anything You Can Spare" never had a shot at my top 5, but I do think last place is a bit harsh for it. I really enjoy it, but yeah, it's not one of his strongest tunes.
