It'll be interesting to see if streaming based songs recover particularly strong this week. Like, is Lucid Dreams going back to top 5? Maybe even #3?

Radio needs to move on from The Middle. Hopefully GLY or ILI can top 150M there. It's been a while without a particularly strong airplay #1.

NOOO! And just a week ago we thought it was guaranteed to be the next airplay #1... And Ariana's going to get her first airplay #1 - that's a milestone.

Delicate was #23 on the last Hot 100 with 14 Drake debuts above it...
Is top 10 out of the question? I wonder if the new formula has anything to do with this

The new formula increased airplay's influence on the Hot 100. Yes Taylor! Her payola is working They increased airplay so much that a song with 104M AI, 12k sales and 11M streams (The Middle) would've been #6 on the Hot 100 if you they didn't count Drake.

I'm OK with airplay having a bit more weight. You still have Drake and Cardi at the top 10, but there's a lot more variety. A few country songs would get to chart much better as well.

I think the chart currently should be: 50% streams, 40% airplay, 10% sales. :kii:
Sales are about 5x less relevant than streams atleast in 2018.
Then in the future a chart where streams & airplay switch between 40-60% each.

Good to see airplay factored in a little more. I'm the last one to complain about streaming but it's nice to see that the other formats aren't irrelevant.
With the video IMF is probably going to stay #1 for a while. It's not a bad song so I don't mind.

I don't mind In My Feelings to be #1. It's one of the few good tracks from Drake's recent lackluster album.

I have followed the billboard lists since the 70s, and in those years I lived in Peru so I could get the magazine many times up to 4 weeks late. Obviously many and many times I did not agree with the positions, but I think that through 40 years of billboard in my life I have not seen worse weeks than this year, and definitely this last one crowned what for me is the blow to the musica in USA

For those worried about looking at the current Drake-themed Hot 100, the next chart should see many of the Drake songs fall back a bit

The Country songs already are doing much better. I scanned through the Hot 100 just now, and I noticed most of the country songs seemed to fall only about 10+ places even though there are 25 or so new Drake songs. Also, I think Billboard might have increased sales as well. They wrote something which implied that at least, but they didn't out-right say it.

It occurs to me that streaming and airplay now have similar "absolute" numbers that measure very similar things -- the number of times a song is heard, and both deal with tens of millions for most hits.
Airplay currently has a higher reach (the top few songs usually are over 100m, whereas the top streaming songs are usually around half that), but if streaming continues to grow they could become very similar.
At that point, it seems like the cleanest formula for the Hot 100 to use would be to just add up audience impressions + streams, and get rid of sales, to become a pure consumption chart. Then we wouldn't even have to talk about "points" (which are made up anyway) and could just say a song was "heard 80 million times" and include both metrics.

(+35) Zac Brown Band - Greatest Hits So Far... 88. (+37) Sam Hunt - Montevallo 95. (+26) Florida Georgia Line - Dig Your Roots 112. (+20) Jon Pardi - California Sunrise 115. (+33) Thomas Rhett - Tangled Up 120. (+24) Old Dominion - Happy Endings 121. (+43) Blake Shelton - Reloaded: 20 #1 hits 124. (+45) Florida Georgia Line - Here's To Good Times 157. (RE-ENTRY) Luke Bryan - Crash My Party 159. (RE-ENTRY) Tim McGraw - Number One Hits 174. (RE-ENTRY) Kenny Chesney - Greatest Hits II 181. (RE-ENTRY) Carrie Underwood - Greatest Hits Decade #1 193. (RE-ENTRY) Keith Urban - Ripcord [Not trying to turn this into off-topic Billboard 200 discussion, just showcasing Country music is being helped by the new rules]

That would give airplay 75%+ of the chart, since the #20 song on airplay has bigger numbers than the #1 song on streams. That'd receive complaints as too much of the chart would be industry-controlled instead of consumer-controlled. I could see that happening / I'd be here for it if they reached similar numbers someday though. The formula in the 90s used to be somewhat similar, 1m airplay = 1k sales. 100m audience = 100k sales.

(RE-ENTRY) Keith Urban - Ripcord [Not trying to turn this into off-topic Billboard 200 discussion, just showcasing Country music is being helped by the new rules] Thanks for posting. - Paid-for streams count more towards overall streaming - Overall streaming counts less towards the Hot 100 - Airplay counts more towards the Hot 100 - Sales count more towards the Hot 100 If all these statements are true about the recent formula change, then all 4 of them benefit country songs. I know the first two points sound contradictory, but it makes sense since country does badly on overall streaming so it being weighted down slightly is good, and paid-for streams counting more towards the overall streaming points is still good because it means on the streaming metric country songs will do less bad compared to before, even if it's in a metric that is being weighted down slightly. Does anyone who calculates the points know if those 4 statements are actually true or not? The 1st one we know is definitely true, but I'm not sure if we've had it confirmed about each of the other 3. I'm curious because if they are all true then a song such as Delicate could manage top 10 now.

They don't need to drop sales from the chart. At the rate sales are decreasing, they'll dissappear without Billboard changing the formula in a year or so.
At that point, in theory, sales and airplay should be 50/50, considering radio ain't growing much, and streaming is.

Is it possible that no tears left to cry could get a new peak with these new rules since it's gaining really fast on radio?
