It’s been 3 weeks since the album was released and there is no word on a new single. They never even finished the Smile video series after week 1. I guess Capitol just gave up on the album after release week.
I really don’t get why they sent Daisies to radio when there were so many better choices. And then not following up Daisies with another single. It’s really annoying how they botched the Smile era rollout even worse than the Witness era rollout.
Those “alternate covers” that delayed the album for 2 weeks haven’t even been shipped yet...

Looking back at everything now, I'm so confused as to why "Cry About It Later" wasn't released as a direct follow up to "Never Really Over". It was definitely ready to go back then, since Katy recorded it in 2018. It's a perfect sequel, lyrically and sonically to NRO, and could've easily done just as well with the same level of promotion.
"Small Talk" was such a baffling choice, especially since they also had "Harleys In Hawaii" locked and loaded. I'll never understand the choices that Capitol and Katy have made these past two years.

I thought RCA was bad but the way Capitol has handled this rollout is truly nonsensical. They’re acting like she doesn’t have legit radio-friendly material on the album; it doesn’t have to be a top-10 Hot 100 contender to be considered a successful single!

Is the "target" ads doing anything for "Smile" on the streaming or digital charts???? There are plenty of hits/singles left on this album. I guess the label feels this album is a wash considering it's 1st week sales????? Back in the day they would give you at least 2-3 singles. Before anyone says that she has, some of those singles felt like they were out a year ago. lol Now they expect 1st week sales to be great and if not "bye bye your album is the weakest link)

This album is dead commercially. The label has no intention of keeping it alive and Katy has bigger stuff to worry about for now. I think most of the damage was done way before it dropped. The management of the singles has been horrible post-"Never Really Over".

still listen to this album every time I go to the gym, so like 5-6 times a week. It's hard to cope with the fact they aren't doing anything with CAIL. It's going to join LL and WOA.

It's probably the best pop music album of the year, along with Future Nostalgia.

Sure, they could have done more with it, but had they built off on it's relative success instead of going with the destined to flop "Small Talk", they would have been better prepared to launch the album. NRO streamed really well for Katy Perry track.
BTW "Bon Appétit" wasn't even the worst video from that album (see the attempted viral-crap that was "Swish Swish").

I wonder if her label takes any sort of accountability towards picking the wrong singles and the messy rollout, or do they blame it all on Katy and her “lack of demand?”
Surely they have to know they fucked up again, don’t they?

I just don’t get how the label can f**k up the single choices three eras in a row. First Prism: - Not pushing Dark Horse as they second single. The public basically forced them to make it a single - Pushing TIHWD instead of the much better WOA or LL Then Witness: - Reversing course on the “purposeful pop” narrative by releasing Bon Appétit with a last minute Migos feature - Then rush releasing Swish Swish when BA didn’t catch on. And releasing the music video + VMA performance months after the song was done - Not releasing any singles post-album release: Witness or Roulette Now Smile: - Pushing Small Talk instead of HIH or CAIL - Doing nothing for HIH when it was released - Pushing Daisies as a new “lead single” when there were much better choices - Delaying the album and having no single on radio for release week. Then, not releasing any singles post-album release At this point, I just want Katy to leave Capitol.

Is it possible that Katy asked the label to slow down the promotion so she can take care of the baby and not be that involved and they will resume promotion in a couple of months? Maybe with a re-release to support a tour?

I mean there are a lot of us, on all music boards, that would make better decisions than her label. It must be all white old men or something.

She's probably not as... easy to work with these days compared to before she got super famous and her ego inflated.

I’m pretty sure part of it is Capitol. Back during Witness, Katy wanted the purposeful pop with Chained To The Rhythm but it didn’t perform as well as expected. So then they released Bon Appétit and I remember Katy still trying to spin the purposeful pop narrative. That makes me believe that Capitol switched plans. Plus, Bon Appétit was originally a solo song and Migos was added last minute since they were the hot rappers at the time. Katy might’ve been suffering from some mental illness during Witness but her ego never seemed big, especially during the Smile era.

I wonder if they will abandon this project altogether since her first week sales were modest. I truly hope not, this deserves an effort from the label. I hope not because it seems like Capitol isn’t even trying this era. It made no sense for them to not have a song on radio for release week. Daisies peaked on radio almost a month before album release and then they didn’t push anything after that (including HAC and AC). Also, I have no idea why they pushed Daisies first when they had songs like Harleys In Hawaii, Cry About It Later, and Not The End Of The World on the album. For a record label that had an era as flawless as Teenage Dream, they seem to be making more and more missteps each era since Prism. I'm 100% convinced nowadays that Teenage Dream was a huge stroke of luck for Capitol. I mean, the material was definitely there, so they didn't actually have to put any work into it, it just happened. And I still think to this day she would get her 6th #1 with Hummingbird Heartbeat instead of TOTGA. When they had to work even a little, things started going wrong, and that was after Dark Horse. Every single decision from then until now was horrid. I'm glad the contract's over, hope she doesn't renew.
