I hope not because it seems like Capitol isn’t even trying this era. It made no sense for them to not have a song on radio for release week. Daisies peaked on radio almost a month before album release and then they didn’t push anything after that (including HAC and AC). Also, I have no idea why they pushed Daisies first when they had songs like Harleys In Hawaii, Cry About It Later, and Not The End Of The World on the album. For a record label that had an era as flawless as Teenage Dream, they seem to be making more and more missteps each era since Prism. I'm 100% convinced nowadays that Teenage Dream was a huge stroke of luck for Capitol. I mean, the material was definitely there, so they didn't actually have to put any work into it, it just happened. I have to disagree. It didn't just happen, she had a FANTASTIC team around her. They knew how to play the game. They knew when to release something, when to release the video for full impact, what award shows to get her on. You have to hustle for all that stuff. Everything seemed so perfectly timed...down to the T. Like remember when the original ET was removed off iTunes (as an abduction) only to allow the remix to climb. And when it climbed high enough, the original suddenly appeared back on? That didn't just happen. That was a team that knew what they were doing. PRISM's singles were mishandled by a team that didn't know what they were doing. She had another potential 5 #1's on PRISM. They just screwed the second half of the era up.

I agree with most of this but Katy needs to take some blame for the missteps on PRISM as well. She fought for “Unconditionally” as the second single (she prob wanted a ballad to “soften” her image) and recklessly saw zero single potential in “Dark Horse” even after heightened interest during the pre-release. Most recently, she had the nerve to say “Walking On Air” is her favorite song from the album but never considered releasing it, even AFTER performing it on SNL. Sour grapes at this point.

A month later and absolutely nothing. It’s sad how Capitol wasted such a quality pop album. I’m curious to know where Katy goes from here. New label? Explore other genres (dance, rock)? Soundtrack single? Acoustic album? Take a long break from music? Collaboration with a current artist?
On a different note, Katy has gone on an odd twitter spree the past 24 hours about algorithms.

"Unconditionally" remains her best ballad.

I think she should do Zedd type of one-off collaborations, like 365. I think she is in full-on election mode now. Which is fine, cuz she has nothing to lose now by choosing a platform.

On a different note, Katy has gone on an odd twitter spree the past 24 hours about algorithms. I mean, she used to be the most followed person on Twitter and now she only trails Barack Obama and Justin Bieber, but her tweets get like 20k likes so maybe that's what it's about? IDK I'm confused. Hope she's doing ok, adjusting to being a mom, and taking care of her physical and mental health.

This channel has all the divas chart histories in an animated line graph. Katy was a BEAST on the Hot 100. Enlightening. It all fell apart after Dark Horse, basically.

Not releasing Legendary Lovers and Walking On Air are two of the biggest mistakes of her career.

Can't they just release "Roulette" now? It would fit in with the resurgence of the 70s/80s sound!

I think they should have filmed more performances prior to her giving birth so they could sporadically release them a few weeks and months after the album was released to still remind people the album exists. Obviously, since having the baby it wouldn't make sense for her to do all that now so they should have probably done it beforehand.

I honestly don't know what her next move is going to be, but I doubt it's going to be anything exciting or interesting.
Hopefully I'm wrong and she reinvents herself in some way that captures people's attention.

She needs to find her a decent record label first.

I heard a rumor that NTEOTW is next, as the video is being shot. Which is it?

She needs something pushed to radio. The fact Daisies was allowed to sink with nothing immediately to follow it as the album was coming is crazy - especially for Hot AC. Some artists don’t need radio but Katy isn’t one of them and radio is one of her main avenues of exposure. I hope she can find herself a more supportive label when she’s finished here but I suspect she’s already going the way of Avril.

yea not having anything after Daisies was so dumb. Even more so since she did nothing after the album release. She didn't have to do anything, the label could've taken care of radio, Spotify, iTunes, etc. That's not her job. On the other hand, now she can treat whatever is next as a droplet. Hopefully there is a push, cuz she'll need it.
