Literally the most basic, mediocre, boring pop song around. Even with its massive airplay and the Super Bowl performance, it won’t be remembered. It will be remembered because it will be mentioned in record history books alone. Yes... for weakest #1 of all time. Wouldn’t have had any records if not for the timing.

OK but the facts i listed will pretty much guarantee it will be remembered. 10+ weeks on top of radio. Superbowl next year. GLY is a HUGE song. It might end up being bigger than Gods plan( if its not already there ). 1+ Billion views on youtube too. ALSO This song helped Cardi b extend her record. This song won't be forgotten. Points are actually wont be mentioned. But will always be on the tallied for the longest radio #1 already of the decade. Its one of the benchmark already.

God's Plan was an event, GLY is just filler GP's 14th biggest week on the Hot 100 > GLY's biggest week. If Girls Like You had to compete with God's Plan for #1, it would've been blocked easily (like Meant To Be was).

Either we're talking about the same thing every single week or I've been reading the same thread for like 2 months now? Well, we basically have Girls Like You Vs a rap song in the top 2 for like 3/4 months.

WHAT?
In what way, shape or form is "Girls Like You" airplay 'legendary' per se?
For the longest running airplay number one single of the 2010's, it's listener impressions are comical to say the least, subpar in audience and is barely bigger than 'Perfect' or even 'Finesse' statistically and numerically this year.
Compared to other big airplay hits this decade as a whole, "Girls Like You" has yet to surpass +135M listener impressions via. Neilsen BDS and +170M listener impressions via. Mediabase.
'Rolling In The Deep; We Found Love; Blurred Lines; Stay; Royals; Dark Horse; All Of Me; Stay With Me; Happy; Uptown Funk; Thinking Out Loud; See You Again; Hello; Love Yourself; Shape Of You; That's What I Like' etc. are the true, dominant, multi-format, airplay hits of the 2010's and surely would have been even bigger had they not been surrounded by such ample competition during their chart-runs.
M5 had better thank their lucky stars that radio has performed rather poorly this past year (esp. compared to 2012-2016) and that the myriad of Hip-Hop streaming hits that receive barely any airplay outside of Urban radio and certainly not on Pop radio have given them such significant airplay longevity overall.
+13 weeks and counting at number one for a song that will "allegedly" be as big as 'We Belong Together' in terms of weeks spent at the top? ..... EMBARRASSING!

'Girls Like You' may or may not be 'boring', 'forgettable' and 'embarrassing' but what words would describe this discussion stretching into yet another week?

Because it had no competitors whatsoever and the song is clean and has 2 big radio oriented artists.

Hot 100 Airplay flashback - 20th anniversary This Week Last Week Two Weeks Ago Chart Imprint | Catalog No. | Distributing Label Peak DATE 59 0 0 1 ...Baby One More Time, Britney Spears 59 Hot 100 Airplay 1998-11-07 All these publications talking like it's the 20th anniversary of this song when I just listened to an American Top 40 from mid-October 1998 when Baby One More Time debuts at #39. Then I check its wiki page and it was released in August. smh

God's Plan was an event, GLY is just filler Hate all you want. The facts don't lie. Girls like You is a monster hit. The fact that it will be performed at the SuperBowl classifies it as an event. 10+ weeks on top of radio. 1+ Billion views. Topped the charts in over 11 countries. 5+ Weeks at #1 billboard. 6 weeks at #2. 20+ weeks in the top 10. MUST I GO ON? Dude, it's super weak for what it is. I'm pretty sure even FEFEs peak points are higher than GLY.

I can't tell which side is most pressed about GLY being so big? Those trying to explain how "legendary" it is or those trying to dismiss it because of how "basic" it is. The song is a hit. Even if it's during a weak period and even if it's because the Hot 100 measurements are bs, it's still a major hit. There's no way around that. Is it basic? Maybe. But I imagine the same things were said about songs like I Love You Always Forever and Torn, both mid-tempo pop songs from the mid-90s that spent double-digit weeks at #1 on pop radio. Donna Lewis' song might not be 'remembered' as well as other hits from 1996, but it's still a blast from the past when it does come on. And whether it's remembered or not in 2018 doesn't take away from the fact that it still holds the record for longest running #1 in CHR/Pop history. Some of ya'll need to stop digging so deep for something that isn't there and just let things go.

There are only 4 weeks left in the Billboard year. If GLY averages #2 in the next 4 weeks, it could end up in the top 5 of the year-end top 100.

I know, but for example, No One was #1 for 14 weeks in 2007/2008, Billboard mentioned that yesterday and I don't know how big competition was during that 14 weeks.

When we are done with 'Girls Like You' let's go back to Drake. Some artists are more into this than others, Drake is one of them.
Drake Texts With His High School Teacher About New Billboard Hot 100 Record News By Starr Bowenbank | October 23, 2018 5:21 PM EDT
Drake took to Instagram on Tuesday (Oct. 23) to share a cute exchange between him and his favorite high school teacher about breaking the record for the most top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 in a calendar year. Drake passed The Beatles and now holds the title with 12 top 10 songs on the chart in 2018.
Billboard previously reported that Drake was able to accomplish the feat thanks to his feature on Bad Bunny's "Mia," which launches at No. 5 on the Hot 100 dated Oct. 27. The Beatles previously held the record with their 11 top 10 hits on the chart back in 1964.
Drake's former teacher messaged him with a screen shot of the Billboard article about his new record, saying that she often wonders what Drake's teenage self would think of his success. Jokingly, Drake replied that his younger self would be unable to fathom the news and would be more concerned with wondering how he could get his low grades up.

I would like to know if there has been such a weak period in the charts prior to 2018? This is possibly the weakest month of the streaming era but we had other weak periods since 2013. October/November 2017 - Bodak Yellow/rockstar's (weeks 1-5) July/August 2016 - One Dance's final weeks at #1/Cheap Thrills --> basically a first version of In My Feelings/Girls Like You this year: 10-week Drake #1 that was weak during its final 2-3 weeks at #1 followed by a radio driven #1 that was very weak in streaming. July/August/September 2015 - See You Again (weeks 10-12)/Cheerleader/Can't Feel My Face July/August 2014 - Rude's entire run at #1 November 2013/early Feburary 2014 - Royal's final weeks at #1/The Monster/Timber April/June 2013 - Just Give Me A Reason/Can't Hold Us

I hope Happier hits #1. I would love to see Bastille returning from the one hit wonder abyss to get a #1.
And if Sicko Mode don't surpass GLY this week (I would like to see this happening, the song grown on me a lot), Happier is probably the best shot of the top 10 to be the next #1.

When they're closer together you get more surprises.

Nice For What, Psycho, Sad and I Like It were weak #1s too. ...oh and yes I agree it's better when the #1 is weak but sometimes it's nice when you have a song like Uptown Funk or Closer because in 10-20 years you will feel nostalgic and remember how dominant those songs were during their peaks.
