I've never really heard anyone talk about the GLY video.
And fan pettiness aside -- checking out the video now, all I see is just female celeb cameos. Didn't Nice for What do the exact same thing 1 month earlier? Lol..
It does have great overall views though, but not sure whether that just had more to do with it being a huge Pop hit similar to Perfect which has 1.5b views despite the MV not being an 'event' that caused lots of press/discussion.

I've literally never heard a single person irl mention God's Plan either. Then again, I'm not American, but still, you can't base anything on your own circles. The Girls For You video had a lot of discussion in many circles, due to it featuring countless A list celebrities like JLo, Camila, Ellen, Gal Gadot, etc. It exploded on all metrics (iTunes, Radio, Streaming) the week the video came out. But in general, it has a lot of views, because it's one of the biggest worldwide hits of the year. It's not just #1 on US Radio, it's spammed on radio everywhere from Brazil to Slovakia to Australia. I just went on a road trip with some friends to the Tatra Mountains and heard it on the radio at least 4 times. It also has great streaming numbers: still #2 on Youtube and #14 on Global Spotify after 5 months. Even in the US, it's still #11 on the Streaming Songs chart, which isn't exactly horrible, it's right next to In My Feelings. Better Now was at #3 on the H100 last week with a #17 Streaming Songs position, which isn't much better. I also don't understand why this is being called "basic". It's no more basic than songs like ZEZE or Happier, it's just not Rap or EDM. How are songs like Torn and We Belong Together somehow less "basic"? Google Trends spills the tea though. trends.google.com/trends/explore?geo=US&q=girls%20like%20you,god%27s%20plan God's Plan index during the video week: 100/100 Girls Like You index during the video week: 38/100 GLY barely had 1/3 the impact of God's Plan in internet searches/trends when the video dropped. God's Plan video drop completely towers it. And even when you adjust it from US to Worldwide, God's Plan still wins with a 100:76 ratio.

God's Plan: single released weeks before the video. GLY: single released at the same time as the video. Can't you argue simultaneously releasing the song + viral music video during the same week help for a bigger peak? Similar to on Hot 100, a song is going to likely have a bigger peak in points in a single week if the MV + song is released simultaneously, rather than the video weeks following. God's Plan single release + music video release being spread out would help it do better overall/longrun in searches. Both methods have their advantages.

Dude, it's super weak for what it is. I'm pretty sure even FEFEs peak points are higher than GLY. Fefe has been under GLY every single week GLY was #4 the week FEFE peaked at #3.

I've written quizzes on Sporcle for a number of years, and several have featured top 100s of the year. I give the song and you have to name the act. Every time, radio hits are massively more recognized than streaming or video hits. Every damn time.
Streaming counts for points if (and acts have told people to do this) a single person sets up the same song to stream non-stop, even if no one is listening to the track. That artificially inflates the points coming from streaming. I bet that on some tracks, 80% of all streams come from less than 10% of people streaming the song even once. And that's why streaming tracks arrive like a tsunami, and recede almost at once. Even the few who played the tracks on repeat get bored.
If streaming existed in the 70s, 80s and 90s, the decade would have been dominated non-stop by The Osmonds or New Kids On The Block. It would have had no resemblance to what was really going on. (OTOH, it might also have meant Stairway to Heaven would have charted.)
The fact is more people BY FAR have heard or even heard of GLY than Sicko Mode, Fefe, & Zeze combined. Even if it borrows the base line from Paul Simon's Late In the Evening.

That artificially inflates the points coming from streaming. I bet that on some tracks, 80% of all streams come from less than 10% of people streaming the song even once. And that's why streaming tracks arrive like a tsunami, and recede almost at once. Even the few who played the tracks on repeat get bored. I think hardly anybody does this. And sites like Youtube or Spotify don't count streams where a person plays it on loop because they think you're a bot or a hacker or whatever trying to manipulate the view count. And hypothetically even if you did have a song playing all week, and all of them did count, it would only probably be a few thousand streams anyway, which isn't worth all the effort for any individual person. Hypothetically, there might be a billionaire somewhere who has a building with 1000s of computers, each able to automatically change their IP address every hour so that the music sites don't see it as suspicious, streaming a song of their choice 24/7 to manipulate the charts. That would actually be able to get millions of streams for a song each week, be able to turn practically any song into a hit, be able to change what is #1 most weeks, and so on. And this scenario actually is within the realms of possibility (especially someone who works at a major record label, who wants to artificially turn their own songs into hits). However, the idea of normal everyday people going through all the effort of playing a song on repeat 24/7 when it makes no effect on the charts. I just don't buy that. It's just not realistically ever going to happen. There will be a few crazy fans who do it and that's it. And they will play the song on loop on Youtube for an entire day, but only a dozen of their streams will count because Youtube will detect it as suspicious behavior and think it's a Russian bot or something. It was possible to manipulate Youtube views like that in 2007, but it doesn't work today.

If the average person tied up their computer to do that, how many streams is that really?
For a 4 minute song running non stop for a week that is about 2500 streams. Small change for songs that stream 47 million
You get almost the same impact by buying the CD that the song came from

Google Trends spills the tea though. God's Plan index during the video week: 100/100 Girls Like You index during the video week: 38/100 GLY barely had 1/3 the impact of God's Plan in internet searches/trends when the video dropped. God's Plan video drop completely towers it. And even when you adjust it from US to Worldwide, God's Plan still wins with a 100:76 ratio. I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to prove with this data. God's Plan (US)Feb 4-10: index of 56 *video released on Feb 16* Feb 11-17: index of 84 Feb 18-25 index of 100 Girl's Like You (US)May 20-26: index of 3 *video released on May 30* May 27-June 2: index of 38 June 3 - June 10: index of 40 Both videos caused an increase of around 40 when they came out, which means the video's impact in the US was about the same. (Side note: it's interesting to see that Girls Like You actually has higher interest at this point in its run than God's Plan had. That's a promising sign in regard to "how well it will be remembered".) And since you mentioned worldwide: God's Plan (Global)Feb 4-10: index of 50 *video released on Feb 16* Feb 11-17: index of 76 Feb 18-25 index of 100 Girl's Like You (Global)May 20-26: index of 3 *video released on May 30* May 27-June 2: index of 54 June 3 - June 10: index of 76 Globally, the God's Plan video generated around 40-50 points worth of interest, while the Girls Like You video generated around 75. ^Note: Both of these comparisons are done using absolute values. However, the fact that God's Plan was already a huge song meant that any video it released would have given it a boost. Girls Like You received immediate record streams and searches for a song that barely existed at that point, just solely on the impact of the video, for an artist that was starting to fade, and never had a rabid fanbase. (Or at least, their fanbase isn't as rabid as they were in 2012 when Payphone debuted with 500k.) Some interesting stats on the overall interest in Girls Like You vs God's Plan so far:
| Girls Like You | God's Plan | Italy | 90% | 10% | Poland | 82% | 18% | France | 76% | 24% | ... | ... | ... | ... | ... | ... | UK | 45% | 55% | USA | 38% | 62% |
Which is very very impressive for a song that's only in the middle of its chart run so far. It'll end up generating around 2-3x as much interest as God's Plan when its run is over Globally, and at least 50-50 in the US. That way definitely helps GLY since it’s single release discussion and music video release discussion is combined while God’s Plan is specifically separated (Girls Like You was a surprise single release with the breakthrough artist of the year so the music video definitely did not solely generate discussion for the song) but even then looking at the graph – God’s Plan video release was FAR and away it’s peak and the rest of it’s run since the song didn’t come anywhere near close in trends/searches. While with GLY it’s gone down since the video premiere but is pretty steady and didn’t go down hard at all. The peak isn’t far off from how it’s doing normally. Also didn’t GLY video come out before VMA’s nomination deadline, but it didn’t get any nominations? While pretty much every other 2018 video that was talked about (by a popular western artist) got a nomination or two? [This is America, Finesse, God’s Plan, No Tears Left, Havana, even APESHIT which was released two weeks after GLY] It is definitely one of the most known/popular music videos of 2018, but in terms of it being an event during release I’m just not sold.

I hope Happier hits number one not only because it will give Bastille a number one hit but also we can get a number one hit that didn't debut in the top 10 which is a rare sighting in 2018.

If 10% of streamers are counted 12 times a day, they account for up to 120 out of (10%*12 plays + 90% * 1 play) 210 plays, or more than 50 percent. They virtually, even with small numbers, double the effect of streaming.

Orrrr.... a low point for the record industry in finding acts radio can play.
It used to be an "Explicit" record used the occasional F-bomb. But some recent tracks have lyrics that if the bleeped the obscenities would end up as instrumental.
Most of the top 10 just can't be played on terrestrial radio without being shredded. No wonder Maroon 5, 5SOS & Marshmallow are doing so well.

Of the last 11 Radio number ones, 4 were #1 on Hot 100. It's nice to see that for a change.

I understand this is irrelevant to BILLBOARD, but wow this is insane. We have 9 more weeks left in the WW charts cycle. I had no idea GLY has been leading for 9 weeks( it has been on the charts for 20 weeks AND holidays are coming soon ). It has a huge lead over #2 as well. Wow it might even be top 3 on the WW year end charts.

| Airplay | Streaming | Total | Girls Like You | 120m | 25.4m | 145.4m | ZEZE | 4.8m | 47.6m | 52.4m | MIA | 11.9m | 36.3m | 48.2m |
More people are listening to Girls Like You weekly than ZEZE and MIA combined (I can't find the streaming numbers for Sicko Mode, but I imagine it's similar to the other two). This is without taking into consideration the fact that GLY has sold around 500,000 copies, and those people are probably listening to it at least a couple times a week on average. Radio plays songs if their audience wants to hear them. 30 year olds are still people. The problem with this calculation is it doesn't taken into account unique listeners in either streaming or airplay. Due to the way things are counted, a gazillion people listening each a song once with airplay or streaming counts the same as a person listening to a song gazillion times.

Although Girls Like You is currently #2 in Canada (Kodak Black debuted at #1)
Girls Like has had a better chart run in Canada - 8 weeks at #1 to date

Maybe more people have heard of GLY, but more people are listening to Sicko Mode, ZEZE, etc. I'm not sure how Billboard weighs various platforms, but, these were the numbers from last week: | Airplay | Streaming | Total | Girls Like You | 120m | 25.4m | 145.4m | ZEZE | 4.8m | 47.6m | 52.4m | MIA | 11.9m | 36.3m | 48.2m |

Radio plays songs if their audience wants to hear them. 30 year olds are still people. Girls like you has sold roughly 750k which back then wasn’t a big diffference , but with sales the way they are its very strong. It’s in the top 5 selling singles of the year

Whew, another H100 thread dedicated to hating on GLY. What even is the point of this discussion, I'll probably never get it. I've grown tired of the song too, but clearly other people are still willing to listen to it, hence the still high streaming numbers and radio not letting it go.
Sure it's a weak #1, but it's factually still bigger than the songs it's "blocking", which is why it's #1, so I don't really understand why the same discussion happens week after week.
The song is about as inoffensive as it gets, not sure why people are so pressed about it. I find it kinda ironic too how people are calling it basic (which it may be) and then unfavorably comparing it to "God's Plan", which is also one of the most basic #1's this year.

It's basic and has nothing going for it. At least songs like God's Plan and Perfect had something going for them and their success was understandable. I don't like either song but I know why people like them. Me personally, I don't see the appeal. It seems fake. The song sounds like an AI made it. Hatsune Miku sounds more realistic as a singer than Levine and Cardi on GLY. It's bland with no reason to be bland, it's just bland without purpose. Who was this song written for? What's it even about? I mean, if a song is gonna top the radio charts for 7 million years, can it at least be good?

Maybe more people have heard of GLY, but more people are listening to Sicko Mode, ZEZE, etc. But more people listen to the radio than they stream
